  • 10 Tool songs I consider have the best bass intro.
    Tabbed by myself, link to the PDF and Guitar Pro 5 files : www.dropbox.com/sh/aqjae69sug...
    Tunning : Drop D (DADG)
    I used compressor (EBS Multicomp) and overdrive (Darkglass B3K) on all songs, plus :
    - Distortion (Fuzzrocious Rat Tail) on "H."
    - Flanger (Boss BF-2) on "Forty-Six & 2"
    - Delay (Boss DD-3) on "The Grudge" and "Disposition"
    - Octave Up Harmony (Digitech Bass Whammy) on "Vicarious"
    Thanks for watching !

    These Tool riffs seem to be easy to play and yet all them sound awesome. Power chords in bass are really amazing, check the Schism interlude and Iron Maiden's Brave New World intro, as with many other of their songs Steve Harris plays it like a rhythm guitar. Not to mention Lemmy, who actually played it like a guitar.

    I just got a B7K - what settings are you using on the B3K? I'm getting some great Tool sounds with the attack switch up, the grunt down, and drive at about 2:00 with blend at about 10:00.

      I don't remember well for this video but most of time my settings on the B3K are close to :
      Attack switch : Boost
      Grunt switch : Fat (sometimes Raw)
      Blend at 10:30
      Level at 11:00
      Drive at 9:30

    I had a Red Mk2. Yep. Nothing else sounds like a Wal. Are you using the balanced output? Most people don't know Wals have a balanced XLR output as well as the usual 1/4 inch. I got to speak with Pete in England one time before he died. He explained what everything did wonderfully. And eventually I sold it to a guy who lived close to the Wal factory in High Wycombe.

    For Disposition I noticed you played the harmonic on the 7th fret of the G string before the harmonic on 9th fret on the D string, it's supposed to be the other way around, other than that you sound awesome dude

    • @WalMK2
      @WalMK2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. The common tab you'll find on websites and coming from tooltabs.net states this harmonics order indeed but I listened and played along the intro many times and to my humble ears, and can be wrong as I don't personnaly now Mr Chancellor, it sounds better the way I played and tabbed it (link in the video comments). Did you check playing along the track several times both ways ?

      5 years too late, but i use a Dunlop Ultex 0.88mm
      Really stiff and it gets a really punchy attack, sounds amazing if you pluck a little diagonally to get a slight pick scrape in the tone.
      Perfect for sounds with bright strings, like Justin's tone.

    P.s Sweet bass. Wish i had the money to buy one. I heard they can be tricky to play, as in they are not very forgiving. Any truth to that?

    • @trenken
      @trenken 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      2JustJoin they are cumbersome. Heavy basses, baseball bat necks. Geddy lee stopped playing them and switched back to fender, and geddy is a farrrrrrr more skilled bassist than chancellor. Justin plays pretty simple stuff so i guess its not too hard on a wal. To play some rush’s more difficult stuff like yyz is a real pain on these thick ass wal necks.
