My mother was on medication that they discovered caused birth defects when she found out that she was pregnant. They recommended abortion. She said no. I am alive today, and you are reading this because my mother said I will take them how the Lord gives them. Thanks Mom!

The same thing happened to my mom. She was taking medication for her heart when she found out she was pregnant. It was discovered that the child was not developing properly. She had to make the difficult decision to end the pregnancy. She was able to see the baby after. She said he was so sweet looking, but didn't have many needed pieces that would have allowed him to live outside the womb.

My very much wanted second baby died inside me at 4 and a half months and I nearly died because the hospital I went to to have an abortion, which is the procedure to deliver a baby when nature doesn't work, refused to do the procedure. Thank God, I was able to have my abortion and go on to have three more children. There is absolutely reason for abortion!

I am so grateful that as a sixteen year old who became pregnant in a desperate search for love, I knew that I could not kill my child as my Mother advised abortion. I was not a member of the Church yet. I am so grateful for the affirmation of a correct choice I made under duress from my family. I was ostracized and emotionally abused by those I should have been able to trust. I celebrate, my child and love her with all of my heart and soul. Life has been difficult, but we prevailed. We were baptized together, and I will never regret being obedient to the Lord.

    • @brettpinion4233

      Why reject biblical truth?
We are commanded to test any teacher or "prophet" to see if it conflicts with previous revelation. The bible tells us to watch out for false teachers and examine the scripture just like the Bereans did to see if what the Apostle Paul was teaching was truth.
      Acts 17:11
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and EXAMINED the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.
Test Joseph Smith against the words of God Jesus affirmed.
      Luke 24:44
He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
"Before me NO god was formed, nor shall there be ANY after me.” (Isaiah 43:10) If Mormonism is true, then God could not make this claim, for he was just a man at one point; nor could he claim that no gods would come after him, for that is the goal of J.S. and LDS members.
Isaiah 44:6 says, "I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is NO God." & "Is there any God besides me?.. I know not one". God is saying there is NOT an infinite amount of Gods, and there is none like Him.
LDS teaches that there is. "He was once a man like us; yea, that God himself, the Father of us all, dwelt on an earth, the same as Jesus Christ Himself did" (King Follett Sermon)
Either the BIBLE or LDS is FALSE.

This makes me so happy. I watched a video by a Neo-Natal Physician who made the point that it is never necessary to purposely terminate the baby to save the mother. Early delivery or a c-section is always the safer option to save the mother. Depending on gestational age, the baby may or may not survive outside the womb but at least it is given a chance to survive and if the baby does not live, the family has a chance to say goodbye and mourn in a way that allows for dignity and respect for that child and the loss of life.

My mother wanted an abortion when she was pregnant with me. It was illegal in Canada at the time. I suspect she may have tried. My father wouldn’t let her. I came into this world being unwanted while in the womb and unwanted in life. They divorced when I was barely 2, she kept me from my father, and then she kept leaving me everywhere else she could until one day, she was kicking me out at 11 years old, and then later dropping me off at a youth shelter at age 14… she put me through hell. It’s been scientifically proven that even thoughts and feelings like that have an effect on the baby’s development including their nervous and metabolic systems. Well I can tell you my entire life has been greatly and deeply impacted both physically, mentally, and emotionally. Praise the Lord for sending the Savior to heal such wounds for us. Sadly, it didn’t end in a happy story family wise for me, but it did and will yet end happy for me in the eternities.

As the mother of eight children I gave birth to my eighth child a week after my fortieth birthday. My doctor was concerned that my child might have physical and/or mental issues because of my age. He wanted me to have a special procedure to take amniotic fluid from my uterus. This procedure would check for any problems with my baby. If problems were discovered I had the option to have the baby aborted. This was an LDS doctor and he knew that I would have the baby, he was required by law to give me the information. Of course, I said that I wanted this baby no matter what problems it would have.
The baby was born the week after I turned forty. His was the easiest birth I ever had. I only had to push once and there he was. a beautiful boy. He had one older brother, rejoiced because now he had a brother. My other six children were girls and they were also delighted with a brother. My new son was born healthy and strong. He had no abnormalities at all. He was always my bonus child because he had such an even temperament. I have never known him to lose his temper. He is now 33yrs.old.

Johnson, tired of being called out on his corruption by churches and other nonprofit organizations, slipped a passage into the tax code saying that if they continue to do so, they incur heavy tax penalties. For 70 years now, churches have been effectively muzzled in their divine duty to preach against corrupt leaders, a tradition dating back to Old Testament and Book of Mormon times. President Trump issued an executive order to blunt the enforcement of it somewhat, but of course that didn't last too long once he was out of the White House. In 2018 "the baby" I placed for adoption and I were reunited through Ancestry DNA and Facebook. Alas in 2021, my middle child Joe Milks died. It was devastating, and still we were able to get my son Joe Milks' Temple work done in the Temple of our Lord. My birth son was able to be the proxy for his half brother in the Temple.
What an amazing blessing it is to have these moments where we are allowed to hold our people again because of choices we make without any understanding at all in this life.

I know LDS women who have had abortions, and they tell me it was the worst decision of their life. To this day they are haunted by it, even after repentance and forgiveness. Just like Pres Nelson, one woman I know says even the word is sickening. But the people who encouraged/advocated women to abort their baby, and especially those who “practiced” the abortion do not feel the consequences of what they have done. I believe those who advocate, encourage, and especially practice almost always take advantage of vulnerable women. Powerful message. I wish we had this much moral clarity and frank denunciation of evil on hot topics now, like they had in the past. This is a highly relevant and important topic now, but we mostly get just silence and tolerance instead. The importance of repetition on key topics is frequently illustrated in the scriptures, but we don’t get that on the sensitive topics. This de-emphasis causes a perceived ambiguity or softening in the doctrine, and unfortunately enables people to be led astray.

It’s great to hear clear condemnation of abortion, even though this is only partially clear. As he alludes to, the church allows exceptions for cases of rape, incest, health of the mother and - recently added - when “a competent physician determines that the fetus has severe defects that will not allow the baby to survive beyond birth.” Are the babies in those situations any less alive? Or less human?
Abortion is wrong because it is the taking of a human life, a right reserved to God alone. The circumstances of that life’s conception do not change this objective truth, and I’ve long been bothered by the idea that a woman’s exercise of agency determines the acceptability of taking her child’s life. Two wrongs don’t make things right.
It also shows a disappointing lack of faith to give a doctor’s judgment precedence over God’s mysterious working in our broken world, with broken situations.

Interesting. I was thinking specifically about those rape cases. How can it be OK to kill a baby if pregnancy results from rape, but not when otherwise conceived? Can one kill a living 2-year-old because he was conceived from a rape? No, you get life for murder for that. It has to be because abortion isn't the 'taking of a human life' but maybe it is only the 'taking of a potential human life' ? That could be why it is 'abortion' and not a 'murder', since one can repent of abortion but not from murder 1?. I don't know, but I don't find a direct answer here either, in this sermon by Dr Nelson.

@@Charlie-xu4zh you absolutely can repent for abortion AND murder. And you can be forgiven for both at some pooint. Abortion can lead to loss of membership, but since it isn't usually considered a crime of the magnitude of murder (according to the laws of the land), you probably won't lose your freedom. But, if somemone kills a pregnant woman, they are charged with two murders so the life is still seen as valuable.
Also, kind of a false premise to equate killing a 2 year old born from rape with ending a pregnancy caused by rape.
The point is not to further traumatize the victim by forcing the pregnancy to continue when they were the victim of sexual violence. Abortion on demand is about geting out of the inconvenient consequences your CHOICES resulted in.

@@cranberrymarmalade9081 "AND murder" No, I don't think you. Murder, the pre-meditated planned or 1st degree is beyond the reach of the atonement, as King David found out. Several prophets have taught that and it's in D&C. Even investigators who confess to murder 1 (ie premeditated like Kind David) can't be baptised. And yes, you can repent of abortion (because it isn't 1st-degree murder). Then, Ok, don't compare it to a 2-month-old, compare it to a 2-day-old baby, can you kill that 2-day-old if it's the result of a rape or incest? but you can end a pregnancy which is the result of a rape or incest, even if the mom is young and healthy and certain to carry the fetus to term. I was at this conference and remember this talk. It was impressive in its clarity. However, there is a significant difference between what is said here in this conference talk and what is provided in the church handbook when I was in the bishopbrick. At the time the handbook for leaders was not widely distributed. The handbook at the time was nowhere near as clear as this short and clear talk. It said that in cases where there was clear evidence of disability or where the life of the mother was at stake, that the decision should be made with (I am paraphrasing now) prayerful consideration of the parents, and was not clear like this talk. Very different advice than the example given of Sister Brown in the talk. On a personal level, President Nelson calls out that only 3% of all pregnancies are a situation where life of the mother is at risk or due to rape or incest. It is interesting that he did not directly address this in his talk. He simply said it is only 3%. Yet many members of the church support legislation that effectively deny that 3% from a decision that they should make. My wife had an ectopic pregnancy years ago. The medical advice was to terminate the pregnancy with medication that killed that child to save the life of my wife. There was very little medical controversy about what would have happened to my wife had she not moved forward with the abortion. However, in November of that same year (a few months later) she was diagnosed with late stage breast cancer. At that moment she should have been pregnant and we would have had to make the decision to either treat my wife with chemo that would have been terminal for the child and might have been life saving for her. My point is our laws should have allowed us to make that decision and would have at that time. Laws in many states today would not have allowed my wife and I to make that horrendous decision now. It should not be left to an ineffective law to make that decision for us. In many states even the ectopic pregnancy would be considered an illegal abortion today. Now, more than 20 years later the reality is that chemotherapy, blessings, and a lot of fasting did not save my wife. She died a few years later from breast cancer. We had no children together. While I personally would never choose an abortion for "convenience" I want to be clear my wife and I made a clear decision to abort a child to save her life and would have again for a better chance of her survival during cancer treatment. While we were both grateful we did not have to make that more morally ambiguous question. We discussed it multiple times while she was getting treatment. These are decisions that are life changing and faith testing and in my opinion this talk touches none of the real world problems with these decisions. And in the 3% of cases and in cases where severe disability are clear, I think that President Nelson chose not to discuss these and simply said that they are only 3% of the cases and then went on to highlight a few cases where disability is likely but not known at the time of the decision. Members should have more compassion for those who do have to make the tough decisions that will define your life and you will wonder about forever and recognize that laws should realistically consider them too. Sorry for the long comment.

Yes. I, too, have been very concerned about the recent legislation that do not provide exceptions for rape, incest, and medical necessity like the situation you're describing with your wife. And some of the states *technically* allow for these provisions, but the punishments are so harsh (i.e. the doctors' permanently losing their medical licenses) that some doctors in those states are reportedly afraid to perform even medically necessary abortions in the emergency room, for fear that their license will be challenged.
This research may have already been done, but I think it would also be useful to interview women who had abortions and find out why they chose to have one. I know many young couples (married and not) who describe themselves as "baby hungry" but they know that they simply can't afford a child with the low paying jobs that they have. My limited understanding is that a significant chunk of the non-medically necessary, non-rape, non-incest related abortions are because the women realize that they would not have help from the biological father (research shows that on average ~1/3 pay full child support, ~1/3 pay only some, and the remainder pay none at all) and that the mother's current career could not possibly support a child-- let alone childcare. While I would obviously I would prefer for people to not engage in pre-marital/extra-marital sex in the first place (because it would leave them happier, their lives less complicated, leave them at lower risk for STDs, etc.) I wonder if policies that support parents better overall here in the U.S. would convince more of that ~97% to go through with the pregnancy and therefore avoid the death of the child via abortion by supporting the parents. So, for example, the option of day care or pre school as part of the public school system so that parents know they have a reliable way to work. Or medicare for children, just like we do for the elderly so that the children that are born have reliable access to healthcare. I'm not at all up to date on the research of what works (or works best), but whatever policies have been shown to actually reduce childhood poverty and provide support for the parents to be able to work.

Last I checked it has been dropping, till it's half million on average.
      Still far to many.
Birth control, honest access birth control for teenagers, proper complete information for teenagers in sexuality, pregnancy and birth control, moderates in both parties have encouraged these methods of reducing abortion.
Many times, women who regret aborting their unborn child, have said if just one person had supported them, it may have made a difference, since their parents and the father would not.

Catholic Answers recently released a video contrasting LDS and Catholic beliefs on abortion. For me, I feel that rape and incest for practical reasons justify an abortion but not for moral reasons. The mother is robbed of her agency to choose, yes, but what of the child? The child has become the criminal? What exactly are we protecting if we don’t include these children?

    • @LadyDisdain3
      @LadyDisdain3 28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

I honestly feel the church is soft on the rape issue to get people into a conversation and then hopefully convince the woman not to abort. Church’s website says while there may be an allowance for rape one must counsel with church leaders first. I think if the church said no to rape many wouldn’t bother sitting down to talk about it first. They may just go get the abortion. That’s just my thought. Cause I agree, a life is a life. And murdering your child doesn’t heal the wound of a rape. Technically even life if the mother is a farce. You can remove the child without killing it if mom’s life is in danger and depending on the age can either save it or give it end of life care. Abortions intentionally kill a baby before removal.

Well it is said the innocent suffer for the sake of the wicked not to say the mother is wicked but some people cant nor should be forced to bear a heavy cross for sadly that child will be a constant reminder of that event and sometimes its not easy to not put that crime on the child even though they were simply the byproduct of it

@@solisprime2669That line of thinking makes sense, and I’ve heard it before, but still, if we believe that the mother and the child are distinct persons I am not sure how this too is not a morally dubious response to an injustice. To assume it is too great a burden for a child is like saying that we should abort children in low income, broken homes because it is unlikely their life will be much good which is an argument used often by champions of Choice.
