Despite the Flip’s shortcomings, I think it might be the better choice for solo travel. The autonomous functions without the need of the RC are quite compelling.
My first drone was my Mini 2 which I still own and fly occasionally. However I also have an Air 3 which is my main flyer. Wind resistance is the primary reason I upgraded. Mini drones in my area are usually unable to handle our winds here in Chicago. The Air 3 handles our winds rather easily.
Flip is very Bad in Wind 🍃 returned and bought the Mini 4 Pro. Better Sensor, better Tracking, Quicker, Wind resistance, slightly better Battery. Flip is like a Mini 3 with Handycaps
I have a mini 4 Pro and a Neo. That's all I need. Was contemplating on getting the Flip as another toy, but they do not sell the drone by itself without the controller😂
@DMProductions Great comparison of the Flip and Mini 4 Pro!!! I must say I was planning on getting the Neo, and now that the Flip is out, I'm looking at that too. Who knows, I may get both LOL But for vlogging, aerial footage not requiring too many turns, tricks or maneuvers, the Flip looks to be a great choice. To be honest, with all of the DJI technology in each product, you really cannot go wrong with any of the lineup. It's merely a matter of what you want and need to use the drones for. And it's getting to the point where DJI is creating such a variety of products that would tailor to your specific needs and preferences. Maybe it was the LUT settings, but the camera footage you had side by side the Flip footage looked to be a bit better, could have just been my own style preference. But knowing how to create LUTs gives you the freedom to create any grading and color style you want. And DJI makes it possible to be as creative as you can be or want to be. Thanks as always!!!
Sir, please clarify your statement about choosing the flip over the hover x1 pro max. That flip can't even follow you from the side, nor does it have the ability in 8k, amongst other things. It's already been stated that the blades on the flip can break which result in sending the drone in for repair.
While these button modes are for sure a great way to do some shots quickly, its noise, noticeably worse wind resistance, unable to track anything other than a human are a big bummer. Surprisingly it doesn't even have cruise control - I mean, even Neo has this ...
I'm more of a photographer but was thinking of getting a new drone. The cost factor really comes into play for me and I'm not sure I could justify the extra cost of the Mini 4. Also, the crop factor on vertical shooting doesn't really matter when you're just uploading to Instagram, which caps video at 1080. Sure you may lose a bit of editing control but not that much.
The flip feels like an intermediate testing line like the neo. Introducing some features and niche functionality that will likely make it's way into their next series of main line drone. I feel like what we're seeing now will likely be reflected in maybe the mini 6 or the mavic 5. I expect we'll start to see a push toward enclosed props partially for safety regulations reasons but also for an increased push toward the ability to fly a cam drone more like an FPV drone.

Thanks for this review. I own the Neo, was eagerly waiting for the Flip. But after watching the reviews, your review. I'll get the Mini 4 Pro because of its wind resistance and obstacle avoidance.
If you look at the videos very closely then you can notice the quality of the videos but for an average person, they may not notice the difference. Can you please do a video comparison between DJI Flip and Neo?
i have seen video between flip and mini4pro from other creators, the quality is more noticeable than here. Mini4 pro clearly a bit better and handles in low light also better
@ they never said the hardware is the same. They said the same specs. A lens from Sony, Canon,... with exact same specs can be different in color grades, focus, bokeh,.... as well. Same logic applies to this case
I have an air 3 and wanted something to fly in enclosed spaces on trails. Got the Neo but didn't keep it because of the bad camera. I ordered the Flip for the same purpose I had ordered the Neo. Hope I didn't make a mistake.
Thanks, Darren! Awesome comparison. By any chance I missed or did you mention already, but which one is faster? For example, when you we need to pull away from the crazy seagulls. And answering the question if I would spend $300 extra for Flip - no. Drone should be a fully capable tool. So I would pick Mini 4 Pro. As for now, I fully satisfied with DJI Mini 3 Pro.
What di you guys recommend? I have the mini 4 pro and the Neo ! But should I get the flip as an upgrade for the Neo? And is it usable for inside shooting for like a car company inside Even with the crop ir did someone use the Mini 4 inside for client work?
hmm, all these won't follow vehicles, out the 3 I would pick the flip but need to be careful when on the kayak. I've tracked myself loads on the kayak with the mini 4 pro
The Flip is a personal, creator video drone. The Mini’s are more photography, landscape, planning waypoints creation drones. The flip avoids the costly obstacle avoidance technology with simple prop guards. There is definitely a market for the Neo and Flip for those who are seeking simple to use drones.

Good honest review Darren, early leaks say it will have FPV, but now only cinematic and selfie? Mini 4 pro still the best 249g drone. Flip cannot even compete with the mini 3 pro. I will skip the flip, it's UGLY anyway😅
I have a DJI Air 3s and looking for a drone below 249gm. Was thinking of waiting for Mini 5 Pro but if the Flip will follow us on e-bikes and walking without the need of a controller is this the sensible drone I need rather than the 4 Pro or 5?
Awesome comparison Darren, just a question, if your not using a remote with the flip, how would you know how much satalites of GPS signal is like? or do you just unfold it and off you go? silly question but just curious, I do agree though, the flip is a silly design, not too keen on the design but i guess it is what it is.
Hey mate: the only thing you get when using your phone is a little WiFi indication and as the drone gets further away it will lower or cut off. If not using anything you pretty much just have to have full trust in the AI tracking. Most of the time I’ll have my phone in my pocket so if I need to I can fly it manually in seconds.
@@DMProductions Oh thanks for letting me know, yea i suppose its a good idea to have your phone with you incase of an emergency, thanks for the tip mate
I was really hoping you would do this video. I’m on the fence about getting another drone. I bought the Neo and it’s ok but not great in the wind where I live by the beach. A lot of high wind warnings. I want to get the Mini Pro 4 next. Not interested in the Flip. Thanks for the great video!
I think level 5 wind resistance means exactly that… It will resist (ie hold position) in level 5 winds so flying in those winds will be more difficult with an aircraft that has a lot of static surface area it needs to push about… I reckon DJI should add a wind speed rating for each model in which it is able to effectively move at, say, 10kph…
I think a lot of people are missing the point of the flip. Most people interested in drones are videographers and photographers, that’s what the pro is for. The flip is purely for content creators, I see it as a neo with a way better camera and battery life. Think hiking to the top of a mountain and using the auto flight settings to film you at then top, or on the way up. It’s for filming the person, not the scenery. I think a lot of people will be using it without the remote at all.
Was curious as to what this was as I just invested in the Neo world fpv. Still happy with my purchase. NEO for the win. Bought three fly more combos for me and the boys at Xmas for 2400 AUS and I've never had more fun with a DJI product. Video quality is definetly starting to frustrate me though as I bought Nd filters to no avail. But Fun
100% I will stick to my DJI Mini 4 Pro.specislly when I got the fly more combo at a steal price from Costco Canada. Also, between Neo and Flip, I will still choose Neo even though the picture wualitybisnt great, but it is usable, and Neo is more compact and practical drone than flip.
I think a better comparison is the neo and the flip. I'm going to sell my neo to fund a slice of the flip. I have a mini 3 pro, never saw the need to upgrade to the mini 4, not enough of an improvement for me.
I ordered the Flip since my Mini 4 Pro (and controller) were confiscated by the police in Paris - this was because I didn't know DJI had dropped their geofencing in the EU and have now done it here in the US!

Flip looks like have cruise control :) and it is possible that they will add normal vertical like mini4 pro (they have same camera and save gimble , so it's just a software question), same with FPV mode, waypoints, etc.

My biggest concern is that DJI stops pushing/publishing firmware updates 24 months or less after release to market. I get upgrades on my iOS devices for years …. so it a lot of dought for something that becomes obsolete pretty fast
Yeah you made a huge valid point here. The mini 4 pro has been out for what 17 months now lol. Hopefully the mini 5 pro comes out before 2 year mark. Maybe I'll just wait for the mini 5 then.

Using prices from DJI web store. RC2$369, RCN3$129, Battery$65, Charging Hub$49, DJI Sling Bag$89. If we look at the three Flip packages available, then the DJI Flip DRONE ONLY pricing should be between $142 - $270 - $310. Therefore I'm guess that DJI may sell the DRONE ONLY for $349 or hopefully less.🤞
Flip stays bad in the wind / not able to fly with goggles / no optical sensors around the drone like Mini 4 pro. Flip has no vertical filming in 4K. Only video quality same like the Mini. Mini 4 pro better choice. For vlogging we have chosen the Hover Air x1 pro max with 8k/30 with its incrediable footage and the possibilty to crop in 4 times or crop vertical into 4K.
I wouldn't buy the flip as I walk around blogging drone , just buy a Neo £155 cheaper than that one does the same job pretty much. Pretty good enough for social media ... has similar functions as well .. and the biggest thing is you can buy the neo with no controller.
Conclusion: - Choose DJI Flip if you’re looking for an affordable, practical drone that’s suitable for light use, such as vlogging, selfies, or casual documentation. - Choose DJI Mini 4 Pro if you have the budget and need a feature-packed drone with the best performance and flexibility for various scenarios. For most casual users, the DJI Flip is the more value for money option. However, if features and performance are your top priorities, investing in the Mini 4 Pro is well worth it. --- DJI Flip (More Affordable & Practical): - Price: Cheaper (a $300 difference compared to the Mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo). - Pros: - Highly practical and easy to use without requiring a controller. - Ideal for vlogging, selfies, or simple content creation with human tracking. - Camera quality is almost on par with the Mini 4 Pro (great videos and photos). - Perfect for users who only need a lightweight drone for casual purposes. - Cons: - Cannot track vehicles, boats, or fast-moving objects. - Does not support high-quality vertical photos or videos (only 2.7K for vertical video). - Less stable in strong winds and slower in performance. Recommendation: The DJI Flip is the more value for money option if you're looking for a portable drone for vlogging, casual content, or simple use without requiring advanced features. --- DJI Mini 4 Pro (More Expensive but Versatile): - Price: More expensive but offers more features. - Pros: - Advanced features like vehicle/fast-moving object tracking, waypoints, cruise control, and 360-degree obstacle avoidance. - Camera supports uncropped vertical photos and videos (4K). - Better performance in windy conditions with improved stability. - Suitable for professionals or users who need an "all-in-one" drone. - Cons: - Higher price, making it less economical for casual users. - Requires a controller, making it less practical compared to the Flip. Recommendation: The DJI Mini 4 Pro is the better value for money choice for users who need a versatile drone with advanced features, especially if you're serious about photography/video or want a more flexible drone.
My thoughts, if I get the better mini 4 pro fly more combo, then I shuld already have the rc-2 controller, then if I want a small, cheap cute drone I can just get the neo for 199$ That's what I want. A mini 4 pro fly more combo with a neo to go with it !! I would be in heaven.
Noticed when you held the phone while measuring the db levels the closer you went to the mini 4pro the high the readings went. You got 72 because you held it a little further away than the flip.
Hi and thank you for sharing your thoughts I came to the same conclusion as I am about to buy my first drone however the 5 pro is just round the corner and price appears to be not much different to the 4 pro should I wait and if so any idea and time frame thank you for you feedback, Mick

I forgot FLIP can only track persons no objects no cars
Mini 4 pro still the sub 250 king, long live the king.
I wouldn't buy the flip as I walk around blogging drone , just buy a Neo £155 cheaper than that one does the same job pretty much. Pretty good enough for social media ... has similar functions as well ..
and the biggest thing is you can buy the neo with no controller.
Neo's camera is quite bad
Conclusion:
- Choose DJI Flip if you’re looking for an affordable, practical drone that’s suitable for light use, such as vlogging, selfies, or casual documentation.

- Ideal for vlogging, selfies, or simple content creation with human tracking.
- Camera quality is almost on par with the Mini 4 Pro (great videos and photos).

DJI Mini 4 Pro (More Expensive but Versatile):
- Price: More expensive but offers more features.

Recommendation: The DJI Mini 4 Pro is the better value for money choice for users who need a versatile drone with advanced features, especially if you're serious about photography/video or want a more flexible drone.
Camera looks the same to me
I have the mini 4Pro and I see no reason to buy the Flip. I get 31 minutes with my Mini4 with extended battery
Yeah I wonder who is the mini 4 pro now 😮
My thoughts, if I get the better mini 4 pro fly more combo, then I shuld already have the rc-2 controller, then if I want a small, cheap cute drone I can just get the neo for 199$ That's what I want. A mini 4 pro fly more combo with a neo to go with it !! I would be in heaven.
People in comments could not even check the price correctly...
Mini 4 pro all day long! Flip Flop?👌👊
Noticed when you held the phone while measuring the db levels the closer you went to the mini 4pro the high the readings went. You got 72 because you held it a little further away than the flip.
Yeah I didn’t wanna slice my fingers off for the video, but everyday of the week the Flip is louder than the mini 4 pro hovering or in flight
Direction track should stay in front of you not behind, follow mode is to stay behind you.
this does work from in front but only at very slow speeds
The dji flop flying wheelchair Cnt compare to the mini 4
Hi and thank you for sharing your thoughts I came to the same conclusion as I am about to buy my first drone however the 5 pro is just round the corner and price appears to be not much different to the 4 pro should I wait and if so any idea and time frame thank you for you feedback, Mick
anything on the mini 5 pro is pure rumour and nothing on the radar anytime soon
Just compare when the price is similar
Lack of 360 obstacle avoidance - so... prefer my Neo and Mini 4 Pro.
