    Thank you Samuel for all of your advices in your videos. I do like the way you paint. Here in France I don't know a lot of landscape painters (I've never seen any videos or youtbe channel in french about landscape and seascape painting) and I see that in new zeland there is a passionate and inspiring "landscape painters team" (like A. Tischler, J. Crump and you). I guess that the wonderful landscapes of new zeland makes you want to pain. Thanks!

    You and Andrew are very good teachers and I really appreciate both your painting styles. I love to learn from many artists that I admire....all have style and technique differences and this , in turn makes it easier to find one's own individual style while learning to appreciate a wide range of knowledge. I have grown and changed over and over in the last 50 yr or so and in the process have not lost my zest for creating. Thank you so very much. Also, I would like to see how you would paint the inside of an Aspen forest where there is little sky showing but lots of dappled light. They are related to willow and have a lovely green foliage.

    Greetings Samuel, love your work, envious of your local, and the scenery. I live in South East Florida, and often struggle with finding good "Seascape/Landscape compositions. It's FLAT here! I mean, there are no hills, rocks or mountains for hundreds of miles! I know there has to be a way to find exciting compositions, but could use a little help in looking for them. Any suggestions?

    • @SamuelEarpArtist
      @SamuelEarpArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Michael. Yes I see your issues but just because it’s flat doesn’t mean to say you can’t find inspiration and create some great compositions and paintings. You could focus more on painting some of the elements in the landscape such as trees, rivers and streams, clouds. There are all sorts. Check out the plein air art works of Edgar Payne, Frank Serrano and Scott Christensen (both these guys are on Instagram). They may give you some ideas. Florida sounds like a great place to live especially with the warmer weather. 😊

    Great video Sam. A question - how does the color study differ from the field painting? Is it just a more thought out and careful mixing of the colors or is there more to it than that? Looking forward to it. I made myself a pochade box and I too love going out to paint. Harder in WI here this time of year when it is only 20 out, my paint was freezing up on me last time. Also my box lid won't stay open with the hinges I used. Any ideas on hinges? Thamks

    • @SamuelEarpArtist
      @SamuelEarpArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Bruce. You can use plein air paintings as colour studies for studio art works and I have done this myself in the past. I will paint a studio colour study so I have a solid painting to refer to when I come to paint the final art work. With regards to pochade box hinges the ones on my Ben Haggett pochade box are friction hinges (at least I think thats what they're called). Anyway it allows the easel to stay open and adjust to the position you want.
      Check out this blog post interview I did with Ben Haggett of Alla Prima Pochade, he explains how he makes his pochade boxes.

    Exactly the kind of video I've been waiting for. Question, you used only pthalo green, no sap. How do you mix sap-like dark greens?

    • @SamuelEarpArtist
      @SamuelEarpArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. I have to confess I have never used sap green, I’ve always mixed my own. Having just googled sap green, it looks like you could make a similar colour with yellow oxide, ultramarine marine blue and maybe a little cadmium yellow. I use phthalo green as a way of increasing the saturation of an existing green I have mixed and it’s also a good colour to use for painting the sea. 😊

    Thank you for this, very skillful 😍 If you get a chance could you explain how you "isolate" what you paint from the noise of the detail you see. I want to paint some of the photos I have taken but find it hard to see the "wood for the trees" if you get my meaning.

    • @SamuelEarpArtist
      @SamuelEarpArtist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Yes I can see the issue you are having. When you are painting a landscape especially outdoors it’s important to simplify the scene you are painting. Simplify the composition as well. When I look at the subject I am going to paint I pick the things I like from it and I always try to keep it simple. Less is often more when painting and very often too much detail is not necessary. I hope this helps. 😊
