I dont know if it just me, but I always prefer Mystery Dungeon over the main series (I not saying that i dont like the main series; Emerald is one of my fav games). Is not just the story (amazing story), but the gameplay is addictive and it does some things better than the main series. You can obtain all of the Pokemon by yourself and have multiple rare tm and the MO are not annoying! Customizing your team is more confortable since you dont have to worry too much in forget moves or learning new ones; you can recover a move pretty easily. Sorry if my comment was long, but thats some reasons why i love this spin off Pokemon series. Good review ;)
This game is underrated by critics but absolutely beloved by fans. When this came out i remember people were freaking out about it. This game was everywhere on youtube for a good month or so. I really hope we get a pokemon explorers dx next.
Never understood the critics of these games. They all claim they’re boring and repetitive yet you have an insane amount of team compositions, moves, items, and abilities to bring into every dungeon. Also every dungeon does have the same Pokémon but they obviously always have different layouts and you will always find new situations. I remember reading a review complaining about the turn based combat but it’s Pokémon. What do you expect? The integration of the turn based combat from the main series with its own twists is incredible. They even have the full move sets of every Pokémon implemented. Just so much good work put into these games.
It also fixes a lot of aspects from the main series like limited TM being obtainable again, being able to obtain all Pokemon by yourself, more moves being useful like growl or splash, MO not being longer neccesary to teach to other Pokemon and moves being way easier to forget and relearn.
I thought each version of Mystery Dungeons. Still had version exclusive mons? And there was no transfer feature? other than that i agree. Mystery Dungeon is, to me, vastly superior to the main games in a lot of ways. Then again i like Ranger games too, so....

Same. I've actually gone back and played the rest of the series afterwards. Working on Super Mystery Dungeon as well, but that’s been slow due to Persona 5 Strikers coming out.

Originally had explorers of darkness and my older brother had explorers of time. Now I got explorers of time from a retro gaming store up in lufkin. And am finally going to beat the primal dialga boss I got stuck on as a kid. Also I’ve learned nowadays not to trust hired reviewers. It more and more turns out nowadays that games gamers like get rough reviews but good player reviews and games that gamers would not like get good review scores but the players rip them to shreds on their reviews. I didn't like how the dungeons generate now. I used a one room orb and the dungeons are overall smaller than the DS games. It's possible I'm confusing explorers dungeon sizes, but they're too small and all the same shape (a grid of squares) rather than the varied shapes where some hallways could lead nowhere. I liked that! Ps. Functioning off memory which is inherently flawed. If someone is aware of DX dungeons that are more varied in shape, let me know!
First time played mystery dungeon in GBA, fell in love with it, is my favorite pokemon entry and i have played all the pokemon games, yes also the TCG, pinball and the cool pokemon conquest, is such a shame that is so so underrated spin off

Great video man! ive been out of the pokemon series for a long ass time and kinda forgot i even had a switch until recently (me and my gf just used it for coop), only just found out that they have a mystery dungeon game for it and my brain was flooded with nostalgia, played the hell out of blue when i was a kid and the one where grovyle has a villain/anti-hero arc to full blown hero arc (cant remember if theyre the same), dude is THAT guy, jw if this game is anything like those, i know mechanically and stuff it will be but does the story have a good hook where you just gotta find out more and recruit more (i skipped over the story summary and such as i didnt want to many spoilers just in case i end up buying this)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was my greatest dissapointment... in the best way possible. My brother and I got our first consoles, Nintendo DS's, on Christmas when we were about 8 and 6. I was a huge pokemon fan, as were all my friends, who had been raving about their great experiences with the games. I desperately wanted to experience that as well, and I was super excited to play Pokemon Pearl. Then I opened the game that i was given with it, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness. I was pretty dissapointed, especially when my brother got pokemon Pearl instead of me, but I managed to hide it cause my parents raised me right. (I ended up getting Diamond later on and liked it better than pearl anyway, so alls well that ends well on that front). When I actually played the game, I was blown away, It remains one of my favourite video game experiences to this day as an adult, and I'm glad it was my introduction to pokemon and console/handheld videogames.
I was just playing it and the sky tower had me dying so much I was like level 35 with my team and they kept over powering me before I could get to the end floor
What demotivates me the most from games is when you grind for hours and you lost it. Replaying the original throught NSO, has the savestates that solves this.
truth be told I did not get the game since in the demo the animations felt stiff vs the GBA version plus they removed stuff I liked. I hope if they make a explores of sky remake they use sprites or improve animations and add stuff vs remove.
If you're still reading the comments here, the friend areas were removed in favour of a menu most likely because the capacities increased to 32 Pokemon per area instead of just enough space for one of each species. They didn't wanna have the challenge of fitting over 30 models on the smallest space all at once. QoL sometimes does have a price it seems.
"its clear that this is something you would find a repetitive boring slog or the you get sucked in and wind up playing for 9 hours strait..." Me with exactly 9 hours of playtime the day I gets the game: uhhhhhhh
Dude. 9,999 hours ÷ 24 hours is 416ish days! And that's says OR MORE. I'm curious on the total play time you zelda btw for. (Whats ur totk time??) Dammmn mannnnnnn I didn't even no that was like possible. Nothing has ever kept my attention for that long ever. Not even close. I'm Impressed and slightly concerned. . But more impressed I promise I have no hate. Respect. That pushed me to sub that's wild
I love DX shame a lot of the new moves didn’t get added to the game I was hoping to use scale shot with Mega Rayquaza or certain megas like Garchomp aren’t useable due to the selective roster most comprising gen 1-3 with few logical evolutions for further gens also it was kinda lame that Espeon could be shiny but not Umbreon or rather the whole list of shines being so short but it’s still fun nonetheless
Honestly, I tried to get in this series, but I really couldn’t . I hated the rng with the dungeons and the dumb “every action you do the enemy does one too “. Along with the inventory management and getting ganged up by random enemies, it’s really not my cup of tea
I hope they see we want pokemon mystery dungeon still. I didnt like the last two since they took out what made pokemon mystery dungeon a pokemon mystery dungeon like i want to earn getting my friends , hungry, and difficuly. I hate they they dumb down, like stop changing the foruma , if it aint broke dont change it. We like the difficulty
I don't know what you mean by "last two" because what you said only really applies to Gates to Infinity. Super Mystery Dungeon has hunger, and is probably the hardest game in the series and forces you to know how to use items effectively.
I wish DX had retained the difficulty of the older games. With being able to have way more than four pokemon in your dungeon party, having several pages of accepted jobs, Pokémon with special qualities, the ability to see all enemy and item locations, rainbow gummi stat boost, and much more, the game feels way too easy and dumbed down despite how great the story still is. A lot of these things can't be avoided too
There is 1 problem dat make the game unplayble: its for little kids U cant loose, u have no team limit, u get everything for free, u can let auto explore, its really made for kids under 9 and got boring. In older pmd games, or even pokemon games it wasnt dat easy. No really tutorials, no helps, team limits, u die if ur main char die and more...
I have to respectively disagree, this was was lazy by just adding new gimmicks but not keeping a faithfull artstyle plus it doesn't help the fact the starters who usually have better animations then most pokemon thats just on par with mystery dungeon all have stale animations unlike the original gba release Wich is insane because the gba release had more life and personality in the 2 to 3 frame animation walking pokemon the music is Alright its adequate But really the artstyle is Disturbingly cheap for a game that should have been respected like the golden goose it is Should have been a super stylized like the amazing illustrations not just a shitty watercolor texture on everything
From what I heard they wanted to do higher quality animations but the Switch couldn't handle it with so many Pokémon on screen at times, like in Monster House.
@@sebastiankulche Not a big problem, the amazing about the originals was to have every pokemon in their environment, it would have been amazing to have friend areas for sinnoh pokemon Just having 490 pokemon in a list was very boring, does anyone used them all? I don't think so

Mystery dungeon is just as good as the normal franchise and genuinely have a good story
First time played mystery dungeon in GBA, fell in love with it, is my favorite pokemon entry and i have played all the pokemon games, yes also the TCG, pinball and the cool pokemon conquest, is such a shame that is so so underrated spin off
you know I actualy never encountered a monster house util one finaly popped up in the dojo while I was level grinding
Good Review
i was playing Mystery dungeon DX the whole time the video was going
i'm doing a mission thru Mt Faraway to the 59th floor. it seems like i rescue
more players in Sky tower than any other dungeon but this game is FUN i
haven't stopped playing it since it got released i get thru the dungeons faster
by having on Goggle specs & a Zigzagoon named Zippy who's level 100 who clears out the map
and takes out pokemon much faster with the Tactic Skill Go The Other Way.
in all the monster houses don't bother me i'm use to them.
the 1 pokemon i wanna try to get is Jirachi from wish cave
celebi is staying in it's dungeon not even gonna attempt Purity forest
#TeamZoom
put it my way
RED & BLUE rescue - played them my favorite over the others
Explorers of time - played it only once
gates to inifinty - played it the music was the best part of the game dungeons
super mystery - played it & it's challenging i like the music from there as well
Goodnight at 3;06am
When I actually played the game, I was blown away, It remains one of my favourite video game experiences to this day as an adult, and I'm glad it was my introduction to pokemon and console/handheld videogames.
i see u also. like chuggaconroy
I loved playing this game on the 2ds as a kid
I was just playing it and the sky tower had me dying so much I was like level 35 with my team and they kept over powering me before I could get to the end floor
Amazing video, you deserve a lot of more subs! Loved this game, the only thing I prefer from the originals is the pixel art
I liked the game and all but I honestly would have loved to see friend areas again
Explorers DX yes please!
Best pokemon spinoff games
This was awesome 💚💜🤘
Give us an explorers remake
Using TGH's Blizzard Island Remaster? Yeah das good.
Well said 💯
"its clear that this is something you would find a repetitive boring slog or the you get sucked in and wind up playing for 9 hours strait..."
Me with exactly 9 hours of playtime the day I gets the game: uhhhhhhh
God your description of this gameplay loop is a LOT like Legend of Arceus lol
3:53 mm yes big boi
Ahhh the one I couldnt beat....
It was an actual good remaster lol
I love DX shame a lot of the new moves didn’t get added to the game I was hoping to use scale shot with Mega Rayquaza or certain megas like Garchomp aren’t useable due to the selective roster most comprising gen 1-3 with few logical evolutions for further gens also it was kinda lame that Espeon could be shiny but not Umbreon or rather the whole list of shines being so short but it’s still fun nonetheless
This game is such a great game except for mt freeze
Honestly, I tried to get in this series, but I really couldn’t . I hated the rng with the dungeons and the dumb “every action you do the enemy does one too “. Along with the inventory management and getting ganged up by random enemies, it’s really not my cup of tea
How tf do you have 10000 hours in the game
Them: i’ll be looking at the current version
me: clicks off because it’s not GBA or DS
I hope they see we want pokemon mystery dungeon still. I didnt like the last two since they took out what made pokemon mystery dungeon a pokemon mystery dungeon like i want to earn getting my friends , hungry, and difficuly. I hate they they dumb down, like stop changing the foruma , if it aint broke dont change it. We like the difficulty
I don't know what you mean by "last two" because what you said only really applies to Gates to Infinity. Super Mystery Dungeon has hunger, and is probably the hardest game in the series and forces you to know how to use items effectively.
So, i know this is a remake of a ds game, but the amount of unmaked, blatant spoilers in this video is insane xd
A lot of these things can't be avoided too
And then, the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon that comes after Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX is Pokémon Legends Arceus.
There is 1 problem dat make the game unplayble: its for little kids
U cant loose, u have no team limit, u get everything for free, u can let auto explore, its really made for kids under 9 and got boring. In older pmd games, or even pokemon games it wasnt dat easy. No really tutorials, no helps, team limits, u die if ur main char die and more...
Mystery dungeon was one of the most boring games I’ve ever played. Y’all are trippin lol
Removal of friend areas was enough for me to not give a shit about this demake
No friend areas = bad game
Well, to be fair in the OG it could be a bit tedious having to choose all of the members again and again and again after every mission.
@@sebastiankulche Not a big problem, the amazing about the originals was to have every pokemon in their environment, it would have been amazing to have friend areas for sinnoh pokemon
Just having 490 pokemon in a list was very boring, does anyone used them all? I don't think so
@@nicolasarroyo1746 I know, but after dedicating it like 200 hours is tedious. A quality of life change over a better presentation anyday.
@JesterPaws That means you didn't have the 386 pokemon in their Friend areas
I’m only 4 minutes in and this video is excellent. The views tell me that this is very underrated.
P.S. 9999 hours of botw? My man, you have fine taste 🤌
