    I got my cavachon 12 years ago for $300! Hes white wavy coat with apricot ears and a spot on his side. He’s the sweetest, loyal and perfect dog for our home. He doesn’t leave my side. I’m so lucky he’s still frisky and doing well.

    What i did was ask to have set up a time for a live video call to see the puppy and speak brieflywith breeder. If they are professional breeders they will be more than happy to make a time for a video call, if the person you are negotiating with just wants to send you photos or some random video- WALK OUT of the purchase. I was able to get out of over 25 scams in a matter of 4 weeks by asking this one question: i would like to set up a video call to speak briefly and see the puppy. 😉 Good luck to all!

    Alot of breeders have put they're price up. We never, don't agree with that just because of the current climate. Making sure they got the right home is the main thing. Our price remaind at 1600 even tho alot was online for sale between 2-3 k. Our deposit is £100. Also always make sure u can have video chat to see what you are buying.

    Hi Vicky! Love watching you and Bailey!!
    I just bought my Cavapoo for $3,000 here in the U.S. These wonderful dogs are unfortunately getting incredibly expensive since they are a "designer dog." I've researched about 20 different breeders on the east coast of the U.S. and found prices ranging from $2000-$3000. At any breeder, a deposit of $500-$800 is usually required to secure your pup - sometimes a deposit is required even before your puppy is born! Waitlists for a cavapoo are incredibly long now, especially given quarantine. Everyone wants a puppy now.

    • @vickyandbailey5840
      @vickyandbailey5840  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sarah M thanks for commenting! $2000 is a little bit more than what the breeder originally wanted for Bailey, at the moment I’ve seen a lot of puppies advertised for around the equivalent of $3000 too! It’s crazy how much people now charge for dogs just because they can! I think it’s sad when deposits are expected so early as there’s no guarantee of their health or even if all of the puppies will survive:( I agree it seems that a lot of people seem to be wanting puppies during the lockdown, I’ve already seen quite a few people trying to rehome their puppies as they’re not the right fit. Hopefully the puppies have all found good homes the first time round but I think there will be plenty up for adoption in the future (of all breeds) as families go back to work etc. The only silver lining I can think of with higher prices is that hopefully less dogs will be abandoned, take care and good luck with your puppy💙

      @@vickyandbailey5840 Well bred dogs will cost 2k-4K. It’s not crazy, given that a big majority of cavaliers have lots of health problems. It’s definitely worth the money specially coming from breeders that health test extensively, and raise puppies using a curriculum. A lot goes into raising a litter, not just money wise.

  • @wiktoriakobrynska9206
    @wiktoriakobrynska9206 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I also wanted to give some tips for buying as well:
    1.Make sure that the parents are DNA tested for the illnesses that the breeds are prone to. It shows the breeder cares about the health and well-being of their dogs as well as the puppies they are selling.
    2. See the environment the puppies are being raised in, make sure everything is clean (smell of animals is common especially since puppies are messy but it should never be horrid as that means poor hygiene and environment).
    2. If there’s pens and crates it’s fine as it maybe for training but if they are shown in a crate and are scared of you/ the breeder then leave that means the puppies are not well socialised and have most probably been left in crates and pens with little to no human contact. BAD breeder. STAY AWAY.
    3. You should check the puppies over and ask health questions before putting down deposits, don’t be afraid to ask the breeder is the deposit will be refunded if the puppy’s health check doesn’t go as planned (if they have a serious illness or something that can’t be treated).
    4. DO NOT put down a deposit before seeing them with mum! They can be through video call as long as you see breeders face with the puppies like suggested in the video.
    5. See if the breeder offers a contract and gives you an invoice/ receipt for deposit and after paying the rest of the money. If they feel offended at such a question look for someone else. It’s either a scam or an unethical breeder. 6.You shouldn’t be shy with asking any sort of questions, you should educate yourself before buying the puppy and research the breed. Not only for you but this sort of research should be common knowledge for the breeder and they should speak fluently in the subject, giving you information before you even ask about it. It shows more about the breeder, they are educated and care about their litter of puppies and know exactly what to do. This is also reassuring for you as the new owner as you should feel you are able to pop any sort of question and feel comfortable that the advice you ask the breeder- then and after bringing your sweet baby home will be given to you from a good and trusted source. This is one of the essentials. It feels like you are not only bringing home a healthy and well socialised puppy but you have built a trusted relationship with the breeder who should offer life time support.
    7. Make sure the puppies have been wormed and flead, ask the what sort of brand they used. Any tips they have and also it’s always nice if the breeder give you and information pack where everything is written down for you so you know exactly what to get and where to find it.
    These are things good and ethical breeder should do and provide you as the potential owner. Time, love and effort goes into this so be respectful and take your time if you don’t find you puppy straight away don’t get upset. Take time and research, see red flags? Follow your instincts. It takes time and if you are rushing you are more likely to fall into a trap. Also remember if you are dealing with an ethical breeder they might back out too if they don’t like something. They won’t be in a rush to or force sell you a puppy if they truly care about the well-being.

    Wow, this is interesting! I'd like to warn people not to buy from a well-known breeder in Warrington. As someone that hadn't bought a puppy before I wasnt aware of all these considerations. We just bought our little Louis the Cavapoo for £2500 at the start of May. After collecting him and the next couple of days we realised he was pretty sick, after 2 vets and a 2 day hospital trip we now have a new healthy puppy full of life but it was very much touch and go! Great advice. I'm looking for a Cavapoo puppy, and have been doing a lot of homework to make sure I know everything about them. I fell in love with one a couple of years ago, and now feel the time is right for me, but unfortunately I think I have left it a bit late, with what is happening with us all with COVID 19. I think it will probably be next year before I get one, due to the high demand they seem to have, and also this will give me more time to find a reputable breeder. Just one question. Bailey is adorable, though looks quite big on screen he he standard size? I'm hoping to get a smaller dog as I live in a flat, though right beside woods where everyone walks their dogs.

      Dawn Gyles thanks Dawn:) At the moment I agree that it’d be better to wait until the new year as the prices are pretty crazy! Bailey’s quite big for the breed but there’s major depth of field when he’s looking into the camera - most of the time he is standing on my knee and leaning into the camera which makes him look a lot bigger than he is:) he weighs 10 kilos and his head is about knee height on me (5”7), I’d say he’s mostly legs too!

    Maybe in a year or so the prices will go down, but in Australia the current rate for a. Cavoodle is between $4,000 and $6000 AUD. That's between 2,100 and 3,100 pounds.This is even with reputable breeders and there's no way around this. Maybe, MAYBE the price will go down after lockdown is over, but I'd say breeders will be used to getting this price and it's now become the new standard. This is highway robbery, but that's what people are prepared to pay. They're also often selling puppies without parent health testing however they almost always have microchips and vet checks. People, including reputable breeders, are basically greedy. I feel sad that so few people seem concerned about the dogs themselves in Australia.

    • @vickyandbailey5840
      @vickyandbailey5840  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jennifer it’s disappointing to hear that:( I don’t know many people from Australia/ know about the prices there so I didn’t want to comment and potentially mislead anyone, I think it’s quite shocking that people are charging these amounts, I think it’s also surprising how many people are paying it. It’s a shame because some families are being priced out of the breed and many will just breed the dogs for profit like you’ve said. There might be an Australian Cavapoo community which you could join, our UK group lists some reputable breeders on there so that could be a good route. From checking today I’ve seen sable Cavapoos listed at £3,500 in the UK which have always been the cheapest, it’s just a shame. After this settles it’s quite likely that there will be young dogs who need to be rehomed when peoples’ lifestyles change again so keep an eye on shelters!

      Hi Ryan! It feels like a lifetime ago when Bailey was a little biter but you can see it in our earlier videos (I think in one of them you can see all the marks on my hands aha) I'd really recommend you watch the Zak George videos, they're really helpful. As mouthing is their way of interacting with the world around them I think it's best to direct the energy to a toy rather than your hands, you can also try yelping to show that you're hurt like they would or time outs, it just depends on what's best for you and your pup! He will grow out of it eventually so try not to worry!x

    The KC rule is 1 litter a year and mothers should stop breeding by the age of 8 so that she is not exhausted. So if she’s 3 and this is her second litter that’s perfectly fine under dog breeding guidelines/ laws.

    • @vickyandbailey5840
      @vickyandbailey5840  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Legally speaking it’s fine but I think it depends where it sits with you ethically too. I personally think breeding at 1 years old is too young, I think a breeder should wait until 18 months at least which is law in some places (although I know things vary on an individual level) You’ll get a feel when you meet breeders if they have the dog’s best interests in mind but it’s worth being aware of

Of course I know plenty of breeders that do it for the money, you can feel it when you are speaking to them and that’s when you should say no thank you :)

      @vickyandbailey5840  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a nutshell supply and demand. Bailey is a selectively bred dog from two pedigrees with the same vet bills as any mainstream breed. The cross breed is liked for the friendly nature, non shedding hypoallergenic coat and superior health from diversifying genetics. Not sure how this comment was meant to come across but it’s pretty obvious from my view...

      @@vickyandbailey5840 Sorry but as hard as it seems to believe, that is how easy to get them, Free ! usually.
      There were stray dogs on every street, there was no chip & pin ETC, they were a absolute nuisance, it was not unusual to be attacked on a regular basis, also the streets were littered with dog mess.
      But it was the easiest way to get a child a puppy, they would be often advertised in shop windows entitled Mongrel's free to good home or £5 each.
      And as hard as it is to hear, a huge majority of them "if not let loose" usually ended up in a sack in a river.
      Growing up, i cannot remember any dogs in our household but then it was a big Family ! Don't get me wrong i don't dislike dogs and have one now (black Lab) which has almost turned white.
      I got it years ago for the kids.
      Although i wished i had'nt bought it now due to having swept the hairs from our wooden floors about 50,000 times, and picking up 3 Tonne of dog mess, and despite the lack of interest my children take in him now they are older, i cannot just have him put down.
      Even though i never let myself get emotionally attached to Dogs or Cats ETC like my Wife does, it is a big commitment that our Family doesn't give up on.
      But as for Dogs, i just think they should be kept to their own breeds, like birds, i guess that will be the next thing we will start seeing, a budgarrot or a parrudgie ETC.Whether it be an Animal or Antique it is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.
      I grant you it has made people take more time to care for the litters but lets be real ! In a lot of cases, it is the pure greed that makes them take that care.
      But Hey Ho, if people want to spend their money on Mongrels thats their business, i seriously wouldn't have a labradoodle or any other crossbreed as a gift.
      Each to their own i guess

    Are you seriously asking breeders to offer their driver's license for a stranger to see? Ever heard of identity theft? And there are people who are honest who don't know how to start a video chat. And the average range of cost has nothing to do with a breeder being for real! It is what they do with the puppies to make them better puppies that matters. Most breeders place puppies in an exercise pen lined with newspaper. What do puppies learn from that? Nothing. Stupid puppies turn into stupid dogs. Think about what type of puppy you would want?

    • @vickyandbailey5840
      @vickyandbailey5840  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi I’m not sure what the end of your comment is referring to but as a general rule we are living in unprecedented times and a quality breeder should do everything they can to help buyers. This video was also filmed during the peak of the first U.K. lockdown where restrictions meant that it was near impossible for potential owners to see puppies in person. In an ideal world we wouldn’t need to do any of this but the video offers ideas and suggestions on how to ensure you are dealing with genuine breeders and won’t be scammed - which nobody wants and is a substantial problem at the moment!
      Some people might not be able to video call but it is a very common thing as it’s rare to have a phone or laptop without a camera. Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything they aren’t comfortable with but this video has helped a lot of people and I stand by the advice I have offered. Identity theft isn’t much of a problem at all where I live so I wouldn’t be able to comment but I’m not implying for you to ask for a scanned copy of the details either!
