It's true. I am a dancer and I also work in retail. Once our manager couldn't come in and I had to sign forms every fifteen minutes and tell my colleagues what to do. It's not easy but it gets easier. (Unless you're like the new manager who comes in like a sledgehammer, then tells everyone they need more training.)
Omg she seems like such a sweet gal. Like she's very successful in her career, yet she doesn't carry a sort of "snobbiness" despite being in a very competitive type of entertainment business.
robyn I’m not a dancer but a big ballet fan, from what I’ve heard from those in the industry, people range from very stereotypical ballet snobs to very humble and sweet. Just like in all careers really
siya4ful i’ve been a ballerina for most of my life and everyone i’ve come across has been very kind. of course you come across people who think rather highly of themselves but that’s not a ballet thing that’s just a people thing lol
Lauren is so incredibly talented yet modest and kind. Meeting her in New Haven Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker was one of the best experiences. Some dancers will walk around in the wings as if they are royalty but Lauren took her time to speak with and get to know each dancer backstage which is so rare. She is such an incredible dancer and person.
I can’t comprehend the brilliance of choreographers. And these young NYC Ballet choreographer-dancers are just astounding in their ability to juggle the two roles.
Lauren is phenomenal!! So much talent at such a young age! This was really a short film, I loved it!! Lauren, thanks for paving the way in choreography for women!!!❤️❤️
She’s just amazing, my hands down favorite dancer, I watched her over the years, from she first started with nycb to principal and now. Just amazing how she grew.
5:19 I'll also just, hang out with my cat. Oh yeah, and my boyfriend too. lol I met lauren and her boyfreind last summer in Saratoga Springs. They are both such nice, amazing people.
I ADORE you, Lauren! I think you are so amazing and down to earth! And I think you must be part human, part butterfly, flittering in the morning sunbeams. Yet, so relatable and unfettered!
It is interesting cose in ex Yugoslavia (now Croatia, Serbia and other countries) main choreographers were female. (most famous one Lidia Pilipenko) After the WW2 till now. When I came to Berlin , Germany I realized that there are almost no female choreographers except Sasha Walz which is movement theater. I founded it was really strange as well as the fact that there were NO female conductors. And wehere I come from most of conductors were/are female. Honestly guys something has to change. The gender pay gap exists still too. It is ridiculous.
kohakuaiko could it be that people are just more interested in seeing male actors than female actresses? If I had to chose my top ten actors they are all male, and my top ten movies have men as lead actors. That’s called offer and demand.
0:32 SOOOOOO PRETTY very likeable and cute girl must be amazing to work with her, she seems very conscious about being responsible for other people as a lead person.
It's so sad that it's only just recently that there are successful and working female choreographers when, and I'm speaking from my own personal experience here, most young people's first experience with ballet and dance is through a female dance instructor.
The vast majority of dancers don't have assistants. She can afford one because she's in the top rank of dancers in her company, and because she gets paid to choreograph as well.
@Tom Jones not every woman bases her life around her fertility... some put their career first (especially in professions like ballet). Others don’t. Either way is fine. It’s just their own personal decision.
@Tom Jones - have you talked to every woman in the arts? I find it hard to believe each and every one of them gave you their opinion of their own personal life choices and the ticking clock in their wombs. They have not made any mistakes, they have chosen a path that is different than what you would have done. Would you be saying any of this if the genders were reversed? No one questions men when they commit to their work. Let women make their choices, I promise, we are capable.
Question to vegans: what kind of things would you recommend eating if you had a very active job like Lauren’s? I’m not knocking it but I’m always interested in new food ideas
I've been vegan for a couple years but I'm no expert on nutrition, so I don't really know my stuff... I'd suggest a lot of protein, beans and nuts and tofu and stuff, and then carbohydrates for energy, pasta, bread, normal. I think a lot of vegan food is still similiar to "normal" dishes just slightly modified. you kinda just have to learn your tricks to replace or reinvent I guess
Rachael Clothier check out ‘a little coco time’ on TH-cam! She’s a soloist with the Het National Ballet and a healthy vegan 🌱💞 I’m also a full time ballerina who is vegan 🌱
always good to carry around snacks if ur v busy like nuts and fruit. There are also some p good vegan protein bars being made in my country lately idk about yours but yea ive been into that lately
black bean veggie burgers, black bean burritos, hummus with vegetables in a pita, vegan mac and cheese with whole wheat pasta, homemade whole wheat pizza, various kinds of nuts, peanut butter, avocados, homemade whole wheat bread, as well as plenty of fruit and veggies. This is a lot of what I eat, and I've been a vegan for over 20 years and I'm healthy, in very good shape and have a very active life and job.
Can you please use background music...in the background??! The music here overwhelms her voice. Are you afraid we would be bored if it is just her speaking without a soundtrack? Some of us still have a decent attention span, you know?!
"It's not easy telling your peers what to do". Such honest words. She seems so down to earth and real.
Exactly my sentiments as well (thanks for your post)
I opened the comments section to this comment as she was saying that. Lol.

the ballet snob stereotype is false

My thoughts exactly. She seems very 'regular'.
robyn yeah that’s what I’m saying, there are snobs in all areas of life! But ofc there’s also kind people everywhere as well :)
She's disarmingly endearing. It's almost too much, lol. I like her.
isn't that just the BEST name ever?!
I absolutely love it.

Much admiration for these hard-working, beautifully talented ballerinas!!
The way she was dancing with her cat was so sweet. Loved this little glimpse into her world.
My favorite dancer and up and coming choreographer at NYCB, 💓 you Lauren.

You are a very beautiful dancer. I love the grace of your hands.
I love her vibe and passion!
I love how the cat is like her bff and her boyfriend is sitting on a desk in the background like a cat.
Wondering who he is!
She is so humble
Congrats on becoming a choreographer! That's so cool! I admire all you put into a day.
It is great seeing NYCB ballerinas "breathe".
I wonder who she’s worked with who hasn’t had great energy and wasn’t willing to collaborate.
Sometimes people just want to be told what to do or have rigid ways of doing things. Which is fine but they will inherently have limited lives.
She has Adriene Mishler energy and I'm here for it
I was just thinking the same :)
She has Lauren Lovette energy. That's plenty.
omg it wasn't just me then
@Tom Jones Does that matter?
@@MilA-eh3gf ignore them, they're a troll

She is beautiful.
She was delightful!
Watching her grow over these years ♡♡
Loved this episode! What an inspiring dancer!
You go girl ! What an absolutely refreshing Dancer ! We like lots !! 👍👍🔥🔥❤❤

The gender pay gap doesn't exist in the way it's portrayed in the media. The real difference is less than 10%. There still stuff to be done though
