I like the show, but they've fumbled pretty much every villain they've given us. Stella- Has no agency since her brother's the one doing the scheming. Striker- I think they were trying to have him be a legit threat who gets worn down by his constant failures, but they skipped the part where he loses so often to the imps that he turns into a psychotic mess. Cherubs- Does anyone even care about the cherubs? Dhork agents- These two are the only ones who remained consistent. They were losers when they were introduced, and now they're losers with enough funding to actually be a threat. Crimson- The fact that he's an imp in such a high position would imply he had to be smart to get this far, but everything we see him do makes him look like the biggest moron in Hell.
@@rainbowtoyfunrandomess1982 In Exes and Oohs he didn't think to verify that Chaz actually had the money he claimed to have even though there was literally a note saying he didn't in Chaz's car that was parked in Crimson's yard. Honestly I think that alot of this boils down to "they wanna focus on character's trauma". And I say this with a very... bitter taste in my mouth. Helluva has become a "everyone has trauma and need a conversation with each other to resolve it" show to me and that's not good. Working through trauma and griefances together works when it's done sparsely. If almost every episode now is people being upset about their past experiences/relationships and talking it out with a flashback that leaves almost no room for real threats. You cannot have these "sit down and talk like we're in a therapy session" moments that last almost half of the episode if there's a real threat out to get the characters in question. There's little room to *show* the villains/antagonists planning their big thing. And that's what makes me sad. There's potential for Striker, Stella, Moxxie's dad and the agents to become the big bads next to other ones we've seen so far/in the Season 2 trailer (like Satan). But no, each one of them with the exception of Satan as potential villain is hold back in their evilness so the main characters can have mutual trauma.
i mean in season 1 we had literally two different fizzes: robo fizz and the real one. the real one was only an antagonist in one episode and even then that can be justified as him and asmodeus maintaiing their professional personas within the club and the standards set upon them by Lust. THey weren't even being all that evil, anyway, they even gave moxxie a chance to try and make a song more in line with the club's vibe. and robo fizz was already clearly different from normal fizz, as he was clearly malfunctioning and was more representing Mammon's deal than Fizz's (his grievance with blitzo was even absed on when blitzo worked at the theme park rather than fizz's personal history, suggesting the robots may not even have fizz's personality and/or memories)
The only one that I like is Mammon, yeah he’s more goofy and is meant to target Fizz, I hope the next episode has him have more involvement since it seems like he and Satan are about to do something after it was confirmed that all the sins minus Lucifer will appear
Agreed. Mammal is supposed to be like that, but Striker, Moxxies dad, and Stella aren’t supposed to be. They’ve all been written off as jokes that pose no serious threat to the cast. Striker was such a promising character in season one, dangerous with a legitimate motive to oppose blitz (hating the aristocracy). His character had so much potential not only to challenge blitz and create tension but also room for backstory (eg why he hates the rich) as well as a potential moral dilemma for the cast (eg if both striker and blitz are hired assassins, is striker really any worse than blitz). Unfortunately the writers took the liberty of turning potentially one of the most complex characters in a show into a ‘haha he is bad because he has statue and hates homosexuals’ just so everyone knows ur supposed to dislike him
Oh btw I know it’s too late now, but in the future if you needed audio clips without music, as in just me talking, you can always ask beforehand and I can chuck you the seperate audio tracks :D
who the hell thought the guys literally called DHORKS, who spent most of their screentime being bodied and terrifed by the imps and stolas would be legitimately threatening and dangerous? THey're only dangerous cause of their tech, the actual characters haven't changed (saying they're 'furries' now is a weak criticsm as that was just a one off joke and doesn't relaly affect their characters unless you're anal about furries for some reason) Crimson has only had two appearances and both show that while he's cruel, callous and controlling he's also not as smart as he thinks he is but aside from fizz's distraction (which amde EVERYONE involved look stupid) he wasn't particularly unthreatening in Oops. Stella was ALWAYS presented as a shitty person. She doesn't need to be particularly mature or smart to be screaming at her husband and throwing their butler at him or hiring a guy to murder him cause he hurt her pride. Absolutely NOTHING about her now contradicts how she was presented in her previous appearances. People are jsut mad that she's not sympathetic, because of course only victims can be mad about being cheated on. really the only villain hit by this has been Striker, its because the jokes about his ego feel out of place and at odds with how seriously he was presented as in his first appearance (aside from his petty ass song mocking moxxie). However we do get bits of him maintaining his murderous and dangerous qualities and his contempt for the upper class. Also the latest episode gave us a pretty serious and dangerous villain. all this to say: I think the idea that Helluva Boss' villains are all badly written and turned into jokes is overblown and is JUST based around striker. Really the only issue is that the villains aren't nuanced or complex, but this IS a comedy set in hell, i for one wasn't expecting that at all and eprsonally prefer simple, evil villains.
I completely agree, especially with the DHORKS section. The furry thing being an argument made no sense. It was a one-off joke that had no relevancy. If you are going to argue a character was ruined, explain how they were ruined! The DHORKS were written to suck. They are moronic crackpots who work with the shadow government. They were meant to be dangerous, not intimidating.
Me personally, all the villains suck in someway either being incompetent like the dhork agents or Crimson or being pretty irrelevant to the plot and Blitzo like Mammon. Honestly they should start getting rid of some of these guys cause it's starting to get too clustered.
Striker seems to be the only character that has suffered from losing any threat, with that statue being the biggest reason. I mean he's still a big threat, and he was able to take Stolas down. The Agents were always two idiots sharing a brain, and if anything, they've become even more dangerous with the funding they now have, even with the furry suit. Stella hasn't been fully fleshed out yet, and seems to be part of a plot that's being built up to. Crimson,.... just keeps crossing between being a serious and silly threat. It feels like he used to be threat, but so much anymore. He's pretty much a mobster who's ready to be replaced by a new younger mobster because his mindset is in the past.
Honestly, just because some of the villains in Helluva Boss are written pretty bad in Season 2, they are still the same characters we all know and love. Also Crimson is meant to be a character were supposed to hate along with Stella. Also I still think Striker is still just as menacing as ever despite some flaws and I honestly can't blame them because Striker literally has his own Wanted Poster and that he says he has a high body count in the hundreds. His words, not mine. Plus there's a reason why Norman Reedus didn't come back to voice Striker, it's because he's busy with other projects involving The Walking Dead plus I think Edward Bosco did a great job as well.
