Incredible talent. I just hope she can stay clear of eating disorders, overtraining and abusive or incompetent coaches that so many super talented young runners fall victim to, so she can reach her potential as an adult, physically and mentally.
@@Speedofsound9 There's a big advantage to being light in distance running, and it can be very tempting to push it too far. Chronic underfueling can work in the short term, but it's always paid for in injuries and burnout in the longer term - and sometimes even more serious life limiting issues EDs are particularly common among young female runners, and because of this you find that many of the fastest adult female runners weren't exceptionally quick during their high school years, and vice versa. I'm a runner, an avid runner, run up to 10 miles a day and run close to a 20 min 5k, I jumped in a 5k new years eve race in Virginia and I ran very hard, but when we got to the turn around point, I saw that this tiny child was killing most of us. I finished the 5k in like 22 mins, but later found out that the child was 9 years old and beat me by several minutes. Yep I was crushed by a 9 year old, and I was sprinting at the end and barely held off a 12 year old. I don't know what little kids are eating nowadays, but damn! LMAO! 🤣
Not only is she 12, but she had her birthday THE SAME WEEK as this race...! So she has almost a full year to run even faster as a 12 year old. Norway have several amazing young runners now. Like Per August Halle Haugen, just 13, who ran a 10k on 32.43.
32.43? Fantastic. I guess this is the best time ever 13 year. Kobe Stewart, Australia, was 12 year and 8 months when he did 33.08.94 back in 2020. This time is also world leading time for 13 years old. But this list over world leading time dont include all countries. Could be some africans with better times.
This race is called Lierløpet and is hosted in my hometown Lier in Norway. The course they ran is not really that hilly, but it’s a bit rough and has a lot of sharp turns. I have ran the same stretch many times, although not nearly as fast as she did. It is absolutely insane how she ran so fast. I would also like to add that Karoline Grøvdal also set a new 5k Norwegian road race record on the same course, so it hosted two new Norwegian records this year.
Amazing talent and great job from pacers around her. Honestly I could be amazed looking a 12 years old girl running that pace in a mile, mind blowing in a 5k, just incredible.
I run parkrun many times a year and 16.39 is crazy fast for a girl. Even for a women that will almost always be the fastest time for any female in any parkrun.
As a kid growing up in Norway in the 90s I was always told that to be a world-class runner you needed African genes. Now we have several runners who have completely shattered that notion. As a result, he new generation has much greater belief in themselves.
dont let anyone fool you its genes we used to run to school at a very tender age so in reality its like training and the earlier you start followed by consistency over a period of years you will be world class, same case applies to any other sport
A top video and shows what our kids can achieve when we are not expecting it. 20 years ago my son did an incredible swimming achievement gaining him the Australian title for freestyle. It was a 50 m race and he entered at his best time which got him into line 8 in the first heat. He took off .5 of the second and after three heats he was in the final race. In that race, the other competitors were of his first heat time basically being all equal. I watched him with his team and he was just focused and not mingling with his teammates. In the final, he took another .5 from his previous time making that one second.
QD: great! No run today(regional xc championship yesterday) but my first day of work at my local running shoe store! Thanks Seth for bringing me into running gear 3 years ago!
We have a local 12yo who runs pretty fast, she ran her one and only 5k (local Parkrun) after turning 12 in 17:11 in windy conditions. Hoever, she is being broughton slowly focusing on the process and consistency, not fast times. Though mid-summer she did set a UK all time U13 one mile record by 6 seconds, again in windy conditions.
Bruh, she's just 12, a lot can change in 10 yeras from now. She might fall in love, go to college and do million other thing that would interfere with her running career (if we can call it that) and just stop running altogether. Now she's the best in her age group but as she gets older she will have to compete against other incredibly gifted girls which means she will need to run her but off just to stay competitive - statistically, not many people are going to choose a running career over many other more lucrative avenues of life when faced with this challenge.
Well the trick is how does she progress from here? Is she on a trajectory of quicker and quicker times towards low 14s in 4-6 years or is she going to hit a plateau much sooner? It's a long way to low 15s, as good as she is. Girls develop faster as well, and she could be just super fast at getting most of her growth now, without much to go. You don't see much about the top women runners in terms of what times they could run at age 11-16. A lot don't even start running until then so there's less to compare. What does she weigh - 35kg? 30kg? Might get a bit harder unless she tops out at 40kg. Shivers.
Yes, 17:56 is a very good time for a girl 11 years old. This norwegian girl run 17:16 when she was 11 year. I guess it is an unoffisiell world best time. I know an australian girl same age run 17:41 in 2020, and it was until now the world best time on 5K for girls 11 years.
Great time and I love it. As a runner myself, most of these kids don't last that long due to early burnout. It's unlike she'll maintain for next 5 or 10 ten years. Best of luck to this rising 🌟 STAR.
When she ran 17:16, she opened with the lead pack with a first km of around 3:00, so she really bunked in that race. This race she had pacers all the way.
Was looking for a comment like this to express my whole hearted belief. I am 15 and have been running 10 years competitively, 13 years total. I have seen so many “good” runners come and go. Have placed second in XC states, gone to national meets, or small local 5ks so I've seen a lot. What I notice is it's the way people train nowadays. Was just talking to a solid competitor of mine in recent years and he got a stress fracture. He won't be competing for a while and most likely will go like the rest of them and be unremarkable. They will get fast times quickly, but they cannot maintain them over the years. Still impressive, but notice it's on a road (perfect surface) and wearing supershoes. My PR is 15:07 ON GRASS AND HILLS and it's going to continue to improve. My teammates also have this instant success mindset and it's not good. They aren't improving and over the long run have actually gone backwards.

Kids nowadays, to keep it in perspective as a high school sophomore Katelyn Tuohy ran a 9:44 two mile and a 15:30ish 5k. If she ran those times at the district championship when I was in high school in the late 70's, she would have beat all the boys in the 12 schools represented and made it to the state of Pennsylvania championships. Kids nowadays are just kicking butt!
Whattt😮 I’ve got decades of running under my belt and my PB is 24:48! This girl is amazing!! Can’t wait til she’s in her 20s or 30s with some serious endurance built up!

Omg thats insane im freshman in college and my 5k pr is 17:46 and to thimk shes only 13 blows my mind. I cant wait to see her when she gets to highschool.
Nice time! I've only run the 5K once in my life, when I was 17: I got leave to train on my own in a gym class and jogged over to a nearby (dirt) track where I ran in 17:45. That speed was pretty much my ceiling, I ran (within the margin of the final sprint lap) exactly the same speed in the army 3K test two years later, and on a 17K road run the same year: I.e. about 17-17,5 km/h.
In all seriousness sub 17 is fast enough that she could probably at least get close to it no matter what shoes she uses. Cheap shoes? Less than 17'25" every time.
its unfortunate that usually the most talented don't have the drive or the love of the sport to become great. the ones who are obsessed and devoted are almost never the most talented.. maybe one in a generation, one will come along with the talent the drive, devotion and obsession, but its extremely rare. Maybe she will be one of them ?
Running doesn't really work that way. The reason super fast kids tend not to go on to achieve incredible feats is simply because they have been given physical advantages at an earlier age. It's not down to lack of desire. Kids need to get through ages 13-17 and then see where they are. Things tend to even out. And then, at around that age, the real talent starts to show, when aerobic and anaerobic ability combines and times start tumbling. For boys, it's not uncommon to see lads who were running 19 or so for 5k, push that down to 15/16 minutes in the space of 18 months. They just take off. The one thing that can be tough for the fast youngsters is that all of a sudden everyone catches up to them (literally).
@@RalphredoHughes true, and especially for this girl who is only 12.. i guess my point is the really talented runners are rarely obsessed like the really good untalented kids who put in the training. 🤷♂
She's the new kid on the block. Will love to follow her progress as she gets older and gains weight to see if she improves or stagnates. Definitely interesting for now.
its a bit weird making comments about young girls weights, even if you didnt mean it. Please don’t use language like that especially for children, its how eating disorders start.
@@aashishr9918 This is exactly what I see. Whenever people make a comment about a guy being short, no one cares, but as soon as someone makes a comment about a girls weight, people get offended.
As someone who ran cross country as conditional for track that’s a very impressive time . I do wonder , however at what age do the East African girls take up competitive running , so I have no point of comparison for elite girls at that age .
I hope she continues to run well but the shoes they wear now compared to ten/twenty years ago provide a great advantage and possibly even extend careers because they must be preventing the jarring, body damage.
I just hope her training schedule isn't too rigorous & she has plenty of time to do normal kid stuff these next few years. Kids her age can burn out badly if they're not careful
I'm starting to get more and more confused on how kids that are not even hitting puberty yet are getting 5ks sub 17 and 18 nowadays. And it seems like it's happening EVERYwhere I TURN. Is the world actually more fit than back in the 1950s and people lied to us about the modern people being lazy nowadays? Or is the technology really that good? Well, whatever it is, it's pretty crazy how young these kids are getting these fast times.
Kids are no more or less fit. Running is more popular. Parkrun means everyone is timed. Fast, flat road races. My personal bug bear is super shoes. No kid should be running in carbon plated Vaporflys.
@@RalphredoHughes I've personally never used any modern super shoes until more recently when I tried it out for a 3 mile tempo run and a 2 mile race, and they weren't vapor or ahplaflys, they were nova blast. Most of the time I use normal non super shoes, and I'm planning to get a pair of barefoot shoes or whatever those are called. I want to strengthen my feet so when I DO use the super shoes I'll have a big advantage and it will help a lot.
Dude is acting like that video is from the race. There’s people all around her when she finishes yet the results show she won by 42 sec. Either way, amazing talent
It's from the race. The course is simultaneously holding a 10k race (2 laps) and a half marathon (4 laps), notice they are passing slower runners the entire time. ..and the results shown were of the women, there were six men who either beat or tied her.
Since I've been tracking running results on milesplit and other sites it seems there are definitely some events with an incorrect distance. I'm skeptical.
Thing about young female athletes is once they begin physically maturing, they gain weight and run slower. Seen many high school girls peak during their freshman season
You need to go to Kenya and Ethiopia and attend their prmary school kids ( under 14 years) running competitions which are mostly undocumented. You will be surprised.

Not a word record. 12 year old Emer McKee ran a 16:23 5k. This 16:39 course is mostly downhill with a mix of level running.
That speed was pretty much my ceiling, I ran (within the margin of the final sprint lap) exactly the same speed in the army 3K test two years later, and on a 17K road run the same year:
I.e. about 17-17,5 km/h.
Damn she is fast😕 same pb as mine,
mine is just 3 secs ahead
Wow...she beat my best highschool 5k
She just turned 12 btw lol…the same week as the race
It's the shoes, the shoes. Such an advantage over previous runners.
In all seriousness sub 17 is fast enough that she could probably at least get close to it no matter what shoes she uses. Cheap shoes? Less than 17'25" every time.
Damn… she smoke my record by 3 mins
She could run sub 16 this race. But she don't know how fast she can run, so she decided to take it easy. Next year under 15.30 min?
When I was 46 years old ran a personal best 18:31 for a 5k and she did 2 minute's faster than me. Holy cow
its unfortunate that usually the most talented don't have the drive or the love of the sport to become great. the ones who are obsessed and devoted are almost never the most talented.. maybe one in a generation, one will come along with the talent the drive, devotion and obsession, but its extremely rare.
Am i the only one wondering what are the long term effects of pushing kids at that age so hard? on bone development? delayed adolescent maturation?
yes, you're the only one 🤡
I just hope that she keeps running long-term and continues through the non-linear process of running that encompasses a lot of adolescent runners
She is not going to make it, running this fast at this age she is more than likely to burn out within the next few years if she keeps going like this.
Jacob Ingebrigtsen runs since he was a kid and he is 1,87m tall. Running probably didn't affect his bone developmemt.
Jacob started at an earlier age and he seems healthy
On a one way trip to burnout and injury.
That's fucking outstanding
As a junior olympian we were running sub 5 min miles, i dont see how this is shattering records.
Amazing
Thats absolutely insane
Ive a 2 year old that is in training for this race next year.
@@_Tp__ gaining weight as in literally just growing bigger and taller. I dont really see it as weird
@@_Tp__ What about comments about guys height? I don't see you complaining about that now do you? Yeah exactly.
@bweygw7865 dawg chill it's not a big deal
@@aashishr9918 This is exactly what I see. Whenever people make a comment about a guy being short, no one cares, but as soon as someone makes a comment about a girls weight, people get offended.
I run a 16:31. She’s coming for my time next 💀
As someone who ran cross country as conditional for track that’s a very impressive time . I do wonder , however at what age do the East African girls take up competitive running , so I have no point of comparison for elite girls at that age .
damn she beat me by over a minute 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
I am impressed.
I hope she continues to run well but the shoes they wear now compared to ten/twenty years ago provide a great advantage and possibly even extend careers because they must be preventing the jarring, body damage.
Hard times are going to come for her in the next couple of years. I hope she saw Allie Ostrander's videos.
I haven’t watched this yet but GEEZ
I just hope her training schedule isn't too rigorous & she has plenty of time to do normal kid stuff these next few years. Kids her age can burn out badly if they're not careful
She only trains about an hour per day
I'm starting to get more and more confused on how kids that are not even hitting puberty yet are getting 5ks sub 17 and 18 nowadays. And it seems like it's happening EVERYwhere I TURN. Is the world actually more fit than back in the 1950s and people lied to us about the modern people being lazy nowadays? Or is the technology really that good? Well, whatever it is, it's pretty crazy how young these kids are getting these fast times.
It is due to understanding of physiology and training methods. If you look back to 1950s, how runners trained, it was really ineffective and stupid.
Kids are no more or less fit. Running is more popular. Parkrun means everyone is timed. Fast, flat road races. My personal bug bear is super shoes. No kid should be running in carbon plated Vaporflys.
@@pavolhorvath7850 Nah. These kids aren't training that hard at that age. It's just the fact parkrun is so popular so everyone gets timed.
That’s fast , however my 7 year old son just ran a 19:40 5k this morning and my 8 year old boy runs 19:15 for his 5k
Dude is acting like that video is from the race. There’s people all around her when she finishes yet the results show she won by 42 sec. Either way, amazing talent
It's from the race. The course is simultaneously holding a 10k race (2 laps) and a half marathon (4 laps), notice they are passing slower runners the entire time. ..and the results shown were of the women, there were six men who either beat or tied her.
what is in the water in Norway jeez
Damn, she kicked the shit out of my time, good job.
Is everything ok over at TRP? This video isn't 8 minutes and change.
puberty is coming that’s the deciding factor
that's crazy i can barely run that as a high school male
She just beat a majority of high school dudes
When I was 12 I was the proud of my sub 25 😢
😮😮🎉
Yo this is crazy, I run 800m in 1:58 as a 13 year old but 16:39 as a 12 year old is so fast
You did not run a 1.58 800m at 13.
Ha! Good for her!! Looks like she was making grown men nervous🤣
Looks like she was paced the whole way.
I belive you are a good observer, but have't read all the comments.
It’s Susanne Wigene’s daughter.

Is it true that children don't get lactic acid build up? Amazing time, non the less.
Since I've been tracking running results on milesplit and other sites it seems there are definitely some events with an incorrect distance. I'm skeptical.
She ran the 600m in 1:38 this summer
Hopefully puberty isn’t going to be too harsh on her
After Karsten Warholm and Jakob, even 16 year old girls are doping in Norway? lol
I’m 12 and my fastest ever mile is 5:50. And I thought I was fast
her little legs bless
Thing about young female athletes is once they begin physically maturing, they gain weight and run slower. Seen many high school girls peak during their freshman season
This is plainly untrue. Women peak in athletic performance in their 20s, just like men.
You need to go to Kenya and Ethiopia and attend their prmary school kids ( under 14 years) running competitions which are mostly undocumented. You will be surprised.
wacha uwongo tulikuwa tunakimbia 20mins
yeah - they do her pace just getting to school barefoot - hahahahahaha
Kenyans: oh wow, yeah sure, they're so amazing
@@TheMaestromMephisto 20 mins= non Kalenjin. Kalenjin = sub 15 mins
The thing that makes me happiest (sadly) is you know she’s not doping. Just raw, blossoming human potential.
What are they feeding these kids. 😂
There's 9 Yr old boys running 15,30s I'd say that's way more impressive as girls develop quicker than boys at that age
Cap
Wait, she's 12?
