You two are doing great, just keep remembering where you started with your little village and how far you've come, one day at a time, one job at a time, you'll get there xxxx
Two things come to mind... on the days the stones aren't speaking to you, go back and look at some old footage.. you've made an incredible difference in the time you've been there, you just don't see it because it's in front of you everyday.. The second is semi rope related... what about a cheap winch that you can use to haul the stones/mortar up there with your pulley. Let the winch do the hard work instead of having to heave on that slightly short rope... it would also come in handy later for lifting any heavy timber needed for eventual roof repairs...
Looking forward to seeing that lovely cottage waterproof with the temporary roof on. Will be watching your progress. Job well done. Greetings from the island of Malta.
This was an enjoyable episode to watch you select and gather the choice stones and mix the mortar and the innovative pulley system to hoist stone and mud up the scaffold. I like the idea of using corrugated metal as a temporary roof to save the insides of the cottages until you can replace each individual roof. Is there a free or an inexpensive opportunity to salvage any of the materials that you could use from your neighbors buildings in the area that are being demolished or from the recycling 'tip'? Do builders/owners ever build redundancy into the roof? Example: roof rafters, then plywood, then a membrane or house wrap, THEN the battens and the roof tiles or slate, so if a tile slips or is damaged you won't immediately get rain, hail or snow damaging the interior. It's just a thought. You've taken on a big challenge and thank you for sharing the work you are doing to save the village and make it lived in again.
The stonework is absolutely stunning, it looks amazing. I think that getting the roof closed is a great idea, whatever sheeting you use doesn't matter, as long as it's affordable it's just to save the building. I'm really pleased you are sharing your wonderful journey.👍❤️

Challenging. I would check the two walls where the rafters sit for plumb first. Another structural element that would help is collar ties in the upper parts of the rafters. But first to rebuild those walls so they are plumb and have quality modern lime filling the joints. Do you have structural experience? Wish I could come and help. You should work out some sort of Pulley system to carry supplies up and down from scaffold in sturdy buckets or netting. It would make it easier to transport stones and lime mortar up to top of scaffold and anything lowered. As for solution of corrogated temporary roofing, you should look for corrigated cement roofing sheets. @@yipnpaulshelpweboughtavillage Sorry, I thought that as the actual owner, ( you bought a village but not that actual house?, )why should you two fix it without some help?? financial maybe. ? or is he happy to let it fall down. ?? maybe I am dim. I am not understanding the extent of your responsibility, sorry.
@@tinamcdonough9910 no worries at allTina, getting clarification on something is a good thing👍🏼, his house is the only one that is not part of the village, I think if we didn’t own it it would certainly be more in a state of collapse, it’s not that he’d be happy to see our village crumble it’s more to do with there being nothing he could do as maybe he’s not so diy oriented or maybe he couldn’t do it financially.
He’s a good neighbour, we’re very fortunate to have each other as neighbours, when his chickens, rabbits and goats are under control that is. 😂🤣😳
@@yipnpaulshelpweboughtavillage Ah, so he is local then.! Thank you for taking the time to answer a dipsy old lady who lives in Bulgaria that is a country that has more than its fair share of \\\ghost Villages. Am really enjoying your huge efforts to save these fab houses Peeps, Keep going, you Will get there. . XXXXXX
What's the date for the bread oven
Hey Poppet.. we think 18th century. 🥰
I worry as a mother would about you when you’re climbing the ladder, please be careful.
Will do Poppet 🥰
Hi boys - sheeting the rooves sounds a bon idee : how much is a sheet ? Would it be worth focusing on fundraising for that on your videos ? We all know you’re too lovely and self effacing to bang on about it but if you know how many you need and broke down into easy fundraising amounts (€£$20) or per actual cost of sheet and then stealed yourselves to push it ? If you don’t ask you don’t get ❤ You can do it with your easy charm. Any support out there for this fundraising push ??? ❤ great to hear more C4 filming and hope you are the finale to current series - not so entertaining watching well off people build their swimming pools …. 🙄
Bonsoir Poppet🥰, yes great idea!.. the sheets are approx 30€ per square metre, each sheet is 1m x 6m, so 180€ per sheet, approx 16 sheets per cottage.
Material-wise they are not loads cheaper but by crikey would they be quick to install!! 🥰
Maybe you need to do promo advertisements to get some new tools and some supplies.
That would be good, not sure we’re popular enough….YET 🤣🥳🥰
👋🏼🥰
