I absolutely adore JB we have been good mates for nearly 40 years since I first met him on Duncan Kay’s Mid Northants syndicate in 84 we share the same love of bait and it’s vast variation A true gent and authority on the subject with immense knowledge, when he speaks always listen
Hi Franky, thanks so much for your kind words. You are a legend! I reckon we need to do a podcast or collaboration soon, it would be off the scale! What do you reckon, a double whammy. Two old gits talking about how it really is, take care. Happy New year, John boy!
Being someone who fly fishes for carp I find all this master chef carp fishing stuff curious and fascinating. What I really like too is that the carp get to eat kilos of free quality food and are caught in the process of a free meal. Everyone´s a winner! Great video.
First of all John, thanks for creating this YT channel. Words of wisdom, as always, from one of the original bait masters. Looking forward to future clips.
A masterclass in making hookbaits John - what has taken me years to perfect and you explain in your own inimitable way, which is how I remember in your talks from many years' ago - excellent...!!!
Hi Gary, great to hear from you. Thought I would put a bit of energy into the bait business as I've just retired - I'm having great fun! More to come mate, cheers - John
Just started making my own hook baits after watching Frank Warwicks podcast gave me inspiration to do so, really great informative video, hopefully see more of these
John great video . Have you ever thought of releasing some of you mixes like supermilk in smaller bags . 300grams would be perfect. I used to use supermilk in the winter for corkball pop ups and a one egg mix lasts all year and the rest goes to waste really . Cheers
Thanks for the kind words! Funny you should mention that, I'm just in the process of developing smaller kits at the moment and will be taking your feedback on board! Cheers - John
Great video John thanks pal just a Quick question what is the name of the flavourings u are using in this video I’ve just started making my own hook bait and need sum good reliable ingredient many thanks
Hi John excellent video really informative , Im thinking of putting some hook baits together for my trip to hungary 25mm , im after 100 pop ups and 100 wafter all cork ball what size cork balls would you suggest to create both hook baits David
no problem, i fished carp for years, always made my own baits. It is cheap and simple if you take time on it. As i used mainly fish boilies it was even more simple and here comes why. The problem of making a good boilie often is to make it hard enough so it wil last 24 hours in the water. Akways, try that first. To get your boilies hard you can add milkproteins like cassein orlactal bumide. This last one cost a lot of money. But you can get it almost for free. This is how. You go to a dairyfarmer. Ask him to sell you fresh milk from the cow that just had her calf born. Collostyrum it is called. They make lactal bumide out of it. So why not use it fresh? Next step are the eggs, that is simple, Third ingredient is fish, yes fresh fish from themarket. I used squid and cut it into small peaces and put them twice tru a mincemachine. So thes three is your wet mix part. Now you mix 1 kg of wheatflour, 1kg of cornflower, 1kg of semouline, half a kg of ricegluten. A litle bit of dryed blood if you can get it and if you like to half a kilo of linseed. No, absolutely none, sweetners, flavours, a fish that can not smell this boilie is notworth catching. i cooked the boilies in steam. not in water, if you do cook them in water you trhow away a lot of the good ingredients as you are cooking soop out of them. Then dry till they show little wrinkels, like is do. ready, cheap, exelent, the colour is dark so on a dark bottom the birds will not find and eat them easy. It is a lot of work, but it leads to results others keep dreaming of all night long as they will not wake upby there baitallarms Succes, Dirk van de Ven .
Hi John. I was watching a recent video. You mentioned your be retiring at 70? Did you need someone to continue your bait making business ? It would be a shame to let it all go. I’ll do it.
Hi John . Does the alar salar have s shelf life date to use by. Used your ingredients some 10 plus years ago and found a few tubs in my box last week lol
Hi John. Could I please have some Alar Salar & some of the bream mix/flavour, that you made for Rod Huchinson ? We messaged before xmas, but I've lost the thread. Mike
no you can't do that because the process of boiling and then air dying AND/OR freezing will alter the moisture content in varying degrees so you will have to keep fiddling around and experimenting yourself! There is no perfect procedure when using cork dust that I know of, for this reason I tend to stick with cork balls
@@johnbakerbaits9108 I'm looking for your bait soak I used over 17yrs ago. It was the brown 1 very like marmite ,yeasty. Do you stock it. Amazing liquid, I done well on a few lakes with this. But can't find anywhere
Get a mini Gardner table 8mm dual size match type rolling table, make mix leaning on the wet side, pre soak cork balls in egg white so dont dry mix out and crack, sink cork ball lightly into one rolled boilie then cap with 2nd for consistent pop up weights with a very consistent coating, even a single 10mm boilie should do it from memory, air dry for an hour or two before you boil so allows the mix to bond to the cork and forms a skin on the outer! Doing it by eye is never going to give you 100% accuracy, about right dose not work for me!
