- Making a simple leather dog leash. I cut the leather 3/4 inch wide 19mm. then punched holes for the two part rivets. Then edge striped stained and sealed. I then hammered the rivets and the lead was finished. This is a nice simple project to do.
Nothing compares to something made by hand by a true craftsman. Thanks for posting this video.

I prefer them stitched, I did the rivets to show beginners an easy way to get started. on the copper rivets I use the round part of a hammer . Even better is a power rivet gun
Nice video Geo, builds on the demo's of your previous video nicely. For myself as I like to make my life even more easy would close the loops with Chicago screws, if I want to make live difficult put prettier I'd use solid copper bur rivets (Only thing is with these, as you know, it take a bit of practice to make the peen look good) Cheers for the tutorial, Scott

I got both when I bought a saddle company's stuff when they closed down years ago. Abbey saddlery will sell you tallow fat and carborundum powder or ebay. . The dog lead video was to give beginners an easy thing to make. Just got to come up with an idea and time for the next video

what kind of Belt cutter is that you used? and does it only work good on the thicker leathers? am currently using a straight edge and leather knife to make belt straps.
It's a plough gauge I use for thick leather if I need to cut thin leather I do the same as you
Simple, nice! For the edge you`re using another type of dye or just...regular leather dye?
Ciobanu George I use a powder stain. ... I buy power then add water. I like to do 3 teaspoons of black and one of brown. This gives me a nice shade of black

It does not have a brand name. any black powder stain will do. you can buy it on ebay and art shops.

If you want to make the one in this video, You need shoulder or butt veg tanned leather and two part rivets , Tools.....a strap cutter, number 2 edge strip. a knife to thin the edges( I use a round knife) a round punch. Then you need some edge stain. tallow fat and glue water.

3.5 to 4.5 mm thick

I rarely do measurements . I have been doing this for years and just do it. I should be in my leather school in the next few days . I will do the measurements for you. After doing your lease you should make your own leather weight lifting belt
The bleed knot one I made had a total length of 44 1/2 inches. Its made up length was 32 inches.The Handle was 9 inches and the turn back was 3 1/2 inches.You would need a total length of 84 1/2 inches if you wanted 6 foot.....The dog lead in this video has a total length of 49 inches made up length of 38 1/2 inches...that's a 9 inch handle and a 2 1/2 inch turnback for the trigger hook
