    Thank you, I've recently gotten a tablesaw and been watching how to make sleds but couldn't find how to determine the length for each piece, now I know.

    Many thanks Albert for another interesting video. I haven't tried segmented turning yet but I certainly hope to have a go at it later on this year. I will be referring back to this upload when it happens.
    Coincidentally the wood turning club to which I belong has a competition every month and this time it's for a segmented piece.
    I know some of my friends are working hard on pieces as its their first attempt at segmenting but I don't yet have the proper equipment such as a table saw so I can sit back and relax during the next meeting of the club.
    Best wishes,
    Alan.

    Hi Al,
    Thanks for the help!
    I still don't have the wood to get started out on a segmented piece but this video helps a lot!
    Tom

      Good deal my friend. glad you found this useful. don't forget if you have a miter saw or a miter slide on your table saw you can get the angles. just make a ring or half a ring out of cheap wood and test your angles once they are good that go to the real stuff

    I'm a new woodworker. I want to make a 36" round dining table with a segmented base (24" diameter). Can I use this method to determine the angles and each segment length? I apologize for any incorrect terms, I'm still learning.

    Excelente video. Me gustaría saber si la guia que utiliza para medir el ángulo tiene algún nombre? Si esta disponible en el mercado?o Si usted la Fabricio?

    Hello, first of all congratulations for sharing your knowledge with us. I'm a drummer and I really want to do my next drums. would be in the measures of 8,10,12,14,16,20 and I wanted to know if I can use his formula and get the final result equal to yours. I want to do with 20 segments so I do not lose much wood. So is it just me to do the account that taught and will work?

    Interesting video, Albert
    It looks so pretty easy, the segment calculation.
    I think in German for me is not a good website to segment calculation.
    So I will probably record it on paper and then measure my segments individually. -D

    But what angle are you cutting?

  • @TheCecil64
    @TheCecil64 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    To make it simple. Tangent x Diameter = length..

  • @terryreed1421
    @terryreed1421 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tangent of the angle times the radius of the circle times two! That's all you need to know.

  • @TheCecil64
    @TheCecil64 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    To find cut length
    8.0 diameter 8 segments
    360 degrees / 8 segments = 45 degrees
    45 degrees / 2 = 22.5 degrees
    22.5 degrees tangent = .4142
    8.0 diameter / 2 = 4.00 radius
    4.0 radius x .4142 tangent = 1.6568 ( side opposite )
    1.6568 ( side opposite ) x 2 = cut length
    cut length 3.3137 or 3 5/16
    OR TANGENT X DIAMENTER == CUT LENGTH

    • @AlFurtado

      Are you correcting me or explaining your method?Simple formula is. .............. Diameter of ring x pie (3.14) / segment amount. EXAMPLE assuming you want an 8" ring8"x 3.14= 25.12 (that answer is length of board needed) 25.12"/8= 3.14"Angles are 360/number of segments/2PS the results are correct but that is to the high points of the ring so to correct that if I want an 8" 8 side ring I add 1/2" to the overall of the ring making it 8 1/2"x3.14/8=3.3365 or 3 3/8" (close enough) the more segments you have the less you add to the overall length.This is the method I use but I am sure any method can be confusing to many people right?

  • @samp1394
    @samp1394 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why don't you do it the simple way? Just draw a circle the size you want and mark out the amount of segments you want then all you got to do is measure your marks. And that gives you your angle to cut to.

      You have that clock mark it from 12 to 6 and from 3 to 9 and keep up until you have what you are looking for.

      yuval lahav WOW it's nice to know I have gained a new language you should learn it as well it is fun. now what can I translate for you? is it diameter +1/8" per inch of run?I will try to be better at expressing my verbal explanations.Take care

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      problem is not translation, it's over thinking I get lost at... if and when I'll start segmenting, I'll do it by the eye method, and when that won't work I'll learn the math, but I do need some real life need to push me to learn new stuff, especially mathenatical formula... :)
