I got ABC first time round and needed ABB; rejected from UCL (Medicine) and it completely destroyed my confidence. Resat them the following year and got offered a place at Kings, I obtained AAA (Bio, Chem, Physics). I never did anymore work but focussed on exam technique, marking schemes etc.
You did all sciences for all your a levels 😮 I am as well, can you share the resources for physics, I done my a levels and is the hardest shit ever 🥲🥲
can I ask, did you apply for med at kings, what was your ucat score like, how many years ago was this, did you have any extenuating circumstances and were you applying in that year that you were resitting the a levels?
Do you mind sharing why you resat all three? Instead of that one C subject
@@aoy1889 I think op only resat two subs, not three and now their result is AAA altogether
@@aoy1889 I know you aren't asking me, but I suppose there are two reasons for this, 1.to keep up to date on your own knowledge on the subject and 2.some med uni courses want all grades to be achieved in the sitting of the same year, worth checking each uni individually though!
As a student, i appreciate this video and it's very helpful! Thank you! : )
You’re welcome :)
thank you so much !! i rlly appreciate this bc i'm currently doing a-levels and feeling like i'm going to completely flop chemistry so this gave me some hope that if i do have to resit i can do a lot better the second time round T-T

Wow bro!! You are a lifesaver! Can't believe it is even possible to make such monstrous improvements in your results.
thank you so much for the advice. its nice to hear from someone who got literally the same grades as me and is now a medical student. cant wait to come back in a year and show my grades!
I didnt do so well in my A-levels this year so im going to do it again and after im goint to take a gap year. Being predicted A's and B's to opening your results seeinf DDEP was so heartbreaking for me and it messed me up for months only now have i finally decided to focus. Its not the end of the world. I decided to get lessons as i know im not disciplined enough this video motivated me to keep on going
I went from predicted AAA to getting BCD. I got an offer through clearing, but not sure if i want to take it; maybe a gap year is best?
Idk, am overwhelmed and honestly just disappointed in myself.
Update: remark changed the C to a B, so now BBD
Is it a stupid idea to just go to the less desirable uni through clearing and then resit 1 A-level at the end of the first year of uni just for the sake of it to prove to myself that I'm not dumb?
Hey,
I just wanted to say that you could take a gap year and resit that a level. You would get a better grade and then be able to apply to a better university. You have worked so hard so why should you settle for less. I understand how you feel cos I feel the exact same way. However you don’t want to waste money by going to a university you don’t like. In the gap year you could be earning money rather than wasting it. You just have to give yourself another chance and do your best.
@@TommyGee. Yes at that point it would be a waste of time. If you are confident you can do much better just resit and take a gap year and work in the mean time.
Listen, if you don’t at all 100% wanna go to the uni offered by clearing then don’t. Use your gap year and resit and go to the one you want to. What’s your motive for wanting to go through clearing? Just for the sake of going uni? Because it’s only another year in the grand scheme of things
I literally needed this so much right now. I never believed and that I will get into my dream uni early on and ended up giving up on myself back in November, barely having the motivation to keep going. When I received offers from both unis I was actually interested in, I couldn't believe it. I gave a lot of strength to actually try again.
However, I'm full of regret for not having faith just because I was scared of disappointment and only starting to study in April/May. I still have slim chance to get in, but I'm terrified of results day and how am I going to tell my parents if stuff didn't go according to plan. It really is an emotional rollercoaster lol
I will still try my best regardless, and if I fail, I might as well just skip a year, save up some money and do Access (I'm over 19).
Thank you so much for pouring some hope into me and for the helpful advice! :))
Got my a level results last year, got CDD as well C for DT, D for maths and computer science, my insurance uni offered me a foundation year and it was so worth it, i managed to get into city through the foundation year and i also got a job during my foundation year

How to get predicted grades if youre resitting? Do private centres provide predicted grades?
Yes they provide you with predicted grades, because I resat at my sixth form where I initially did my a-levels, I just told them what I wanted to be predicted (AAA) and they did it for me
Hoping to get into biomed with Manchester, they’re asking for ABB and I’ve found myself struggling with confidence, I’m not too sure wether to resit if I miss the grades or accept my insurance which is IBMS accredited. I really think UoM and going into research is what I want. Thank you for making this video very reassuring! ❤
I’d recommend take the year out, resit your exams, get a job earn money and then reapply for the following year, that way you get into the uni you wanted all along and you’ve got experience working and money saved up, but good luck!
@@ThatMedicSid just an update, I got AAA and into Manchester! Sadly I’m still taking a gap year due to the loss of my father. Still, thank you for the very helpful video it gave me much reassurance.
thank you so much for this video. i’m not sure what to do because i got CDE this year and am worried about my predicted grades because they are taken from my achieved grades? do you think my school will reconsider increasing my predicted grades because they are way lower than what my course requires?
hey , currently just done my a levels ik im going to fail as i left revision too late and the exams went horrible. however my school nor any school near me takes re sits. should i apply as a independent candidate and resit ? and if so who determines wether i pass my practicals for biology and chemistry and who would determine my predicted grades. 🙌🏾
i dont think you can apply as an independent candidate, because you need to be with a college/ school because you need to resit exams, its not like you've taken a year out, and have a-level grades and then applying. try and find a private college to do it with, or even a regular one, but best bet is private. they'll pass your practicals anyway thats a not an issue, for predicted grades, ask them their process, i.e., if you can decide your grades yourself or if they predict you themselves.
@@ThatMedicSid thanks mate just found out my school does take re sits. but do u think it would be better to apply to a course with a foundation year through clearing instead of re sitting. (most likely will apply to pharmacy in both cases)
@@hamzahannan5402I hope you made a choice but don't settle for less
Bro why am I seeing this after getting into uni😭😭😭😭😭. I'm in my 2nd year can I retake my A-levels now
i took core math igcse(since i only had 1 year to study) but realized i needed it in a levels for medicine since i didn't want to take physics alevel, do you think i should take a level math or will medical schools accept a biology, chemistry and random third subject ? 😢i live outside of uk so
You don't need maths at a-level to study medicine, you normally are required to take biology and chemistry. The third subject can be whatever you want i.e., psychology, sociology, english etc...
Hi, quick question, how did you retake? Did you retake through another school, and use online tuition or retake the entire year?
Hey, no I resat my exams at my sixth form. So I just registered myself for the exams and then for the whole year I’d revise at home myself, no tuition or any lessons, just doing past papers at home. Then I went in only for my exams and that’s it
Hi, I got CCD in my A levels. My school recommended me taking a foundation year in chemistry, retaking my A-Levels and then switching to medicine. This would take almost 7 years in total if it’s all smoothly. The time does not bother me but what would you suggest?
Which a levels did you take?
Oooh if you 100% wanna do med then don’t bother with doing chemistry I’d say, just resit and apply for med. because at the end of the day, when you finish your chem degree or try transferring over there is no guarantee that any medical school will offer you this place
how could you manage uni course and re study a levle at the same time?
ive flopped my a-level for a second time due to procrastination. i really have my eyes set on medicine. I'm thinking to work really hard and resit again. Am I at a disadvantage?
I've heard that resitting a second time means that universities are very reluctant. I think you should apply post grad
twice is crazy thanks for giving me motivation
Not really probably the opposite if I’m honest, use your time wisely, get work experience and refine your study technique with what works. Also check that the unis you’re applying to accept resit applicants because I believe imperial doesn’t but just double check
have got a few offers for dental hygiene / dental hygiene and therapy but I focused more of my time on super curriculars, work experience, making my PS perfect, and practising for my interview than studying and I believe I'll get CDD too or worse when I need BCC. its not the end of the world I know, but the guilt is hitting me right now as I know how disappointed my parents would feel. I regret not properly studying and learning the content but I find it so so hard to sacrifice my free time to study, as the time I spent studying doesn't always end up being useful in tests and I just always feel like a failure. I do chem, bio, maths too and its just too hard. It's so embarrassing admitting that I can't even get a BCC damn. I'll have to resit but I also just got an offer letter for a full time care assistant job. I guess I'll have to reduce my hours to study. but yea, its so hard to stop procrastinating 😭

@@mrqwerty4792 me too 😭😭but I really don't don't want to go to uni this year as I have no discipline to study & do my utmost best. so it is best to resit so that I can find a studying method that works for me & develop discipline bc if I keep this up at uni - I'll struggle so much more.

i appreciate you man i also too want to study medicine but the subjects i do are physics economics and maths so if i redo cause i feel i didnt do good on alevels i cant even take medicine so im not sure what to do
In that case I’d suggest going to a college and picking a-levels for med, like bio, chem and maths. That way you can sit those exams and apply to med
I know this is late but you should've dropped it because regardless you definitely need to do bio and chem if you're in Yr13 now it's not too late to switch you'll probably have to do yr12 again but you'd be only an extra year cause if you do the full 2yrs you'll just have to do another 2yrs for the bio and chem unless you can find a college that offers you fast track A-levels for a year for those subjects which is rare or teach yourself
Please help, I saw that many people who resit get predicted grades from tutors if they school don't help out. Can I get private tutors online this summer for each my subjects and with enough evidence and tests, within UCAS time they can provide references?
well normally you get predicted grades from the school you sit them with, so if you're re-sitting at your school then your school will have to give you the predicted grades. I literally went the teacher who was in charge of UCAS applications and told her I want her to predict me AAA and she was happy to do it. I dont think private tutors can give you predicted grades, it has to be the school/ college/ private college you're sitting your exams with.
@@ThatMedicSid hi thanks for the reply, my school doesn't help with resits, so if I were to go to a different exam centre and call them (a random college), but I would just resit exams and not do lessons, how would they predict me? Could I provide them evidence? Other people I reached out got their predicted grades through tutors
@@custardcreamzzz you can call them and ask them how they go about it specifically, i think it just depends on the college and how they do it, but do call them and find out
@@ThatMedicSid thanks for the reply and sorry for the spam of questions, there's barely any information regarding resits. Is there any way I can directly message you for more questions?
@@custardcreamzzz Bro plz let me know if you found out anything. Ive got the exact same questions, i wanna resit exams not lessons idk not sure
i've heard that it's a lot harder to get into medicine in the uk if you resit an exam. would you recommend applying to undergraduate medicine after taking a gap year, or to do a degree and apply for graduate medicine?
honestly, i dont think its harder, if anything it will be easier because you have more time to revise and get better grades, and get work experience etc... I'd recommend understand what you wanna do, do you really wanna do medicine? Because at the end of the day doing a 3yr biomed course that you didnt really wanna do, doesn't at all guarantee you a spot for medicine. The harsh reality is you can do a degree and not get in for med. So i'd recommend if you dont get into Med first time round, take the year out and apply again, and if u really dont wanna take the year out, apply abroad in EU, there are med schools in Bulgaria, Romania, Italy etc... all of which aren't too competitive to get into, but that depends on your preference
I want to ask a question and that is that I failed my a levels and am re sitting but I worried about my UCAS application and how should I go about my personal statement.
Hey I can help you with your personal statement, you can check out nextgenstudents.co.uk
@@ThatMedicSid thanks
Great video! Quick question, how did you get your predicted grades?
Thanks, I simply just asked my school to predict me what I wanted. In my school there was a lady who kind of regulated/ monitored everyones UCAS applications and I told her to send off AAA predicted grades and she did
Where did you resist your a levels? Did you return to your school or got to a college?
I resat at my school
@@ThatMedicSid did you school allow you to resit y13? e.g. going for lessons, having their mocks
Do you think its worth going to another college to resit and try again?? or should I just revise from home???
Depends on you, I personally just revised at home because I prefer teaching myself content. But if you feel like you’re not disciplined enough to study at home and stick to a schedule then probably going to a college/ attending lessons might be better for you
@@ThatMedicSid thanks so much!! sorry to be annoying i've asked loads of questions on here but did you find offers impacted from russell groups? i want to do biochem or some kind of related science. Do you think i will find it hard to get offers again??/
How do u apply for offers in uni once u resit because in first year u use predicted grades so what do u use to apply for uni if u resit and also when do I apply
If you’re resitting you apply the same way, you can use the same personal statement from last year. But on UCAS, you also write the grades you got / failed in, and you need predicted grades again. The predicted grades I used I chose them myself, but ask your school if you’re allowed to do that or would the teachers do this, hope that makes sense
Ty so much for your video it was really motivating! I was just wondering how you applied to uni with your a-level grades? For example, if I applied to courses with significantly higher entry requirements than my previously achieved grades how would unis look at my application? Would they ignore it and what would they do about predicted grades since I wouldn't have any?
Your predicted grades would help out, so for example if you resat your exams and you applied to a that wanted AAA, and your achieved CCC, your predicted grades would be AAA, this tells the uni that you’re capable of getting those high entry requirement grades, and these predicted grades are determined by your teachers, but ofc you can always beg them to give you the best predicted grades
@@ThatMedicSid Ah, ok thank you!!
Will university consider resit applications for medicine? If so do we need to write all three papers again?
I’ve heard that a lot of unis don’t consider resits equally for medicine specifically. Oxford, Cambridge and Manchester from what I’ve heard definitely don’t. Doesn’t mean it’s 100% a rejection from them. (Again, this is just what I’ve heard)
Yes most of them accept resits, a few don’t but do find this out before you apply, for example imperial don’t accept resits. Yeah unfortunately you have to do all 3 papers I.e, paper 1,2,3 for chem or bio depending on your exam board, because those papers together form the grade you get at the end
I initially wanted to go Manchester to do biochemistry with professional experience but due to extenuating circumstances I completely flopped my maths exam. Looking like I’m going to get A*AD with the bio and chem. Reading gave me an offer but I’m not sure if I want to re sit
I mean reading is still a pretty good uni, but if you really don’t see yourself studying and living there, there’s no point in going there, take the year out and resit your maths exams
I wanna do biochem in manny too but chem isn’t looking good
How did you get predicted grades?? and did you have to submit your old grades? im probs in the same boat rn so i'm wondering if they discriminate from resits?
for me i asked my teacher to give me the predicted grades i wanted, and they were happy to do so. Yeah, you do have to put your old grades on there too. Make sure to check the uni you're applying to, because for example imperial dont take resits but for others it shouldn't be a problem :)
@@ThatMedicSidyour vid was really helpful bro, is it possible for me to message you on socials? Instagram if possible? I really need some advice
Ok say you didnt get the grades, how do you reapply for next year? Do you apply thru clearing?
If you don’t get the grades, you resit and apply normally as you would how you did the first time through UCAS. You’re also gonna have to sit the UCAT/ BMAT this summer too.
Bro can you help me i have heard that ppl saying unis do not accept a level resits and you can not do medicine with retakes and i really suffer from anxiety and depression cuz i know what it turns out at the end of my alevels because of my position in the uk as i’m an asylum seeker i did not try my best to get the grade i deserve cuz your application would bot be considered if you are an asylum seeker and i was 17 yrs old and i have been doing ESOL( its an english language course for foreigners ) when i came to the uk and i have done so much in order to get into a levels however i did not try my best at the end and i was not doing enough revision i know i’m capable of getting high grades i madly want to study medicine so can you give some advice what to do pls i really suffer from anxiety and depression
I'm not an expert on this but just wanted to let you know there are many other options to get into medicine, such as doing a conversion course or applying to schools outside of england for medicine that are less competitive.
Some universities don’t consider resits equally for medicine specifically, but considering your circumstances they may consider contextual offers, don’t be afraid to email the university you’re hoping to apply to and they’ll definitely give you an answer. ❤
What did you do during your gap year to keep yourself busy, like jobs and hobbies if you dontimd me asking?

Oooh depends on how bad you fail, can you still get into the course you want but a different uni, then that’s fine, it’s not that big of an issue. But if you fail really badly then it’s your personal choice about what to do, maybe an apprenticeship? Job?
