    Your story is so inspiring, thanks so much for sharing! My path into the field was rocky too - I had to take an extra year of 6th form and then didn't even get any interviews for dentistry, then I didn't get the grades I wanted so I started a Pharmacy course instead because I thought I'd never get into dentistry with the grades I got but I hated pharmacy as I knew I wanted to study dentistry so I left and worked as a receptionist at a dental practice for a year, and now I'm in my final year of studying Dental Hygiene and Therapy and although I originally set out to do a BDS, I absolutely love what I'm doing now and can't wait to qualify! Keep sharing your story, it'll help so many people! :)

      That's so inspirational, it's so important to go after your dreams and i bet you understand more than most, that the more you struggle to get to where you want to be, the more you value it and so the better you'll be at what you do! Keep it up and I'm sure you're going to smash your final year!

    I failed 5th form (Australia), then failed first year bioscience degree.
    I was allowed to repeat first year uni and studied my ass off. After second year bioscience my grades were good enough that I got into dentistry. This was 25 years ago but goes to show there is always hope if you are willing to put in the hard work.

    Can you explain how your predicted grades worked? I am in a similar situation but with medicine, and I am thinking of resitting next summer my alevels. Apparently a lot of med unis don't like resits, and they treat you more unfairly compared to other applicants. If I apply with terrible a-level grades, but great predicted grades, do you think I still have a chance? Same goes to dentistry. Otherwise, there's no point in me doing UCAT this year

    Hey man, awesome vid and congrats to you… do you know anyone in their 30’s that have done this? I got B’s and C’s a level and gcse. I spent 11 years in a dental lab as a ceramist, im 31 now and i’m starting to think maybe it’s possible.

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for messaging! There was someone who used to be a firefighter and was in their 30s and another person even in their 40s when I was at university. Its not late at all. On top of that, if you’ve spent 11 years in a lab, you will have an understanding of dentistry like no other dentist does! Your work would be amazing. But it’s worth calling dental university admissions teams to see if they are happy to lower entry requirements given your circumstance. If not you may need to ask if they all retakes and in that case you may need to re-do some A-levels. I hope that helps. Good luck with everything!

      @@TwoDentists Thank you for your video, I did not consider the partner scheme so it really helped. Do you know whether the contextual application allows you to get an interview even if you are below the cut off point for ucat or is it limited to grades. It is because the ucat cut offs have increased dramatically from years ago

      Hi, the partners programme in newcastle is available pretty much for every course including most, if not all, engineering courses and it has a reduced entry grade. Make sure you check if you're eligible and you might be able to get into the course you want with the grades you currently have. I hope this helps!

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey, the best way to do it is ask family who have connections with dentists because it’s really tough to get a dentist who would say yes and most who don’t mind someone shadowing might already have someone shadowing. The next best thing to do is to contact as many dental practices as you can until one says yes 👍🏼

    what do I do I haven't chose chem, bio or maths as an a level? rlly want to do dentistry aswell :( any alternatives or tips?

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I would start by checking all the unis entry requirements, especially those with a foundation programme or a 6 year course where in the first year they teach you the basics of bio and chem that you need to know. Maths i've found is usually not as required. If things aren't so clear on the uni websites, be pro-active in calling the admissions teams and seeking clarity. If you do this, I imagine you'd need the rest of your application to be really strong, like scoring really highly in your UCAT and having a really strong personal statement to put you apart from everyone else. You could also look into doing a different degree for 3 years and then applying with that degree as a postgraduate student. And I know this might be very difficult right now, especially with Brexit and Covid but i would also look to applying abroad. I hope this helps but i'm no expert on how to get in and there might be other ways so i reccommend also DMing 'Iwanttobeadentist' on Insta or another similar group who would know much more than me. Hope this helps :)

I did ok in GCSEs, got mostly Bs and a few C s, science was both B. In my a level I did economics, history and business and got BBC( not the best) what will be my best route right now to get close to dentistry, some guidance will be great brother. Thanks

      Hey Manny, I’m sorry to hear that man, i can imagine it must suck when you’re not a in a field you don’t enjoy. I’ll be completely honest with you, I’m not actually sure how you would get into dental school. Possibly as as post grad student. But I’m not sure if your undergrad needs to be relevant or not. Your best bet is to call admissions teams for dental unis and just ask them and see what they think. I hope it works out for you! 🙏🏼

    Damn I'm 24 and just realised after being self employed web developer since I was 17 (I studied level 2 business in college for a year but didnt return for another year due to my work load) that I want to become a dentist. Pretty sure at this point for me it is too late, I don't have the qualifications needed, I was a low grade student in high school and only passed GCSE English with an A in college, failed Maths twice and only have BTECs in Science, BTEC in Travel & Tourism, a C in GCSE Religious Studies. I'm quite confident in selling myself but can also acknowledge when it's too late to do something, kind of sucks that i had a revelation about what i want to do in life and I genuinely dont think theres a way for me to get into it now.

    • @TwoDentists
      @TwoDentists  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man, I’m so sorry man, it might be the case that if you really want to do it, you may need to re-do some GCSEs, do some relevant A-levels and then re-apply possibly internationally to universities which allow for all of these requirements. It wont be an easy journey but if you want it enough and you believe you can get the grades then that could be an option for you. Or even doing another degree first. This will take around a decade at least but I’ve known some 40 year olds who go to study dentistry. It’s not impossible 👍🏼
