  • Replaced the craptacular hinge bushings in the Jeep with some machined aftermarket units. They are an excellent product and half the price of factory bushings. If you need a set you can find them here.

Just did my 07 jk & taking the hinges off the jk gave me the leverage i needed to break the seized pins from the old bushings I replaced all 8 bushings now my doors come out with ease. Never would have thought to do it this way till I saw this video. So thanks

For when you take your doors off again, have the windows down all the way before you disconnect them that way you can grab the interior door grab handle from the outside and just lift up. Makes taking doors off easier. Good video, and nice jeep!

Thanks for the tip. In this case there was no way I was lifting the doors off because the bushings were seized up so bad. I need to relocate the mirrors so I can go door less a bit this summer.

Um yes it absolutely would do the trick. I've taken doors off of many jeeps with the same problem. You would be using a 3 ton jack to push the doors off instead of beating them with a plastic hammer. It's much quicker then removing the hinge from the vehicle. Place jack under door with wood as to not damage them. Then pump the jack up. Pops them right out seized and all.

I'm on my 3rd JK now and I change the bushings out as soon as I get the Jeep.

I had to battle the 4 doors off of my JK. I had to chisel out the old corroded bushings and replaced the corroded bushings with new Delrin bushings. Even after all that my doors were hard to get back on and i sanded the hinges and lubricated the hinge pin. I enjoyed having the doors off but that was a b*$ch to deal with.

If your doors are that stuck. Treat your back to some help. Use a floor jack and a piece of wood. Pump the jack up to put pressure on the door then just wiggle door back and forth. Pops right off. Just be sure to have a good hold on the door.

Door pressure had nothing to do with the issue as the bushings were seized on. Even with the door removed via the inner hinge removal the hinge halves would not separate.

This is what I did! Worked for me, but yeah, just get ready when that door is ready to pop.. it pops!

Most of the time, engineers are working within budget restraints. Right or wrong.

You could use a inductive heater to warm up the hinges.and then replace the bushing.

I when I said pressure I meant vertical lift. Place the jack under the door to create lift. Make sure door is open. You don't want to keep pumping till the door flies up. Just enough to see the jeep lift a little on the suspension as you wiggle the door back and forth. Works like a charm.

I can't simply lift up my rear doors either because of corrosion. My front doors aren't great, but they're manageable. After I finally get the doors removed, replacing my hinge bushings will fix the problem. The JK bushings are junk. I'm looking at TMR Customs Jeep Delrin Door Hinge Liners, but I'm sure other companies make them as well. They're a bit pricey at $55, but I'll be fine if it fixes the problem. The whole reason I got the Jeep was to drop the top & strip off the doors.

Same type of bushing I used. As you saw in the video I had no hope of lifting the doors off so I had to remove them hinge and all from the JK just so I could forcefully knock the hinge halves apart. The Delrin bushings are great so far; no complaints at all.

I took mine off, but including the adjusting plates on the car's pillars. Being in a hury, I forgot to mark the initial position of the plates on the pillars, and now they won't shut propperly. Do you have any tips? I also painted the part of the pillars where the plates were mounted on, so I don't have any reference whatsoever.

Raul Mihai No tips. You will just have to keep tweaking until you get it right.

I just watching this video after stripping the head off of all four screws on my left door hinge. Jeeps are such a pain to work on. It is like they are designed so you have to take them to the dealership to get anything done.

Where did you purchase your hinge bushings?

Sad but I can't remember now. Do an online search for Delrin Jeep JK hinge bushings and you will find them.

Thanks, video really helped. Using the jack on the door was very helpful (careful not to dent the bottom of the door). Got my bushings on ebay - www.ebay.com/itm/201046866122

Good lord you are a bull in a China shop. Pressure wash the jeep. Put a bit of wax on the paint. Then put blue painters tape on the areas needing protection. With an extra person you could have pulled up while opening and closing the door a bit and it would have come off with the hinges in place. You never showed the most important part. Replacing the bushing. Round file!!??

I had the doors off many times before and there was no budging the pins this time. Do you think I would not have tried my options before taking the difficult route?
