To get the broken bolt out of the nut, I just used a small drill bit and drilled from the cap side into the broken bolt, once the drill bites the bolt it will spin the bolt out them bottom so you can grab it with pliers.
Helpful video - thanks. I broke off the threaded end of one of my hinge pins (17 JKU) and had to replace it. It wouldn't budge while bolted to the door so I followed your process and it worked great. The bigger challenge was getting the broken threaded piece out of the nut. I sacrificed a new pin by threading it onto the nut (ground it to make it thinner to go further into the nut) and "pushed" the broken piece to a point where I could use my Dremel to make a slot on the broken piece and turn it out with a screw driver. Not elegant but it worked.
no need to take hinge off the door. those hinges for most are a real pain to break free. there is also a plate behind the door that can fall inside the door if your not careful. anyway i changed all my pins and wear liners with nylon one.

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna pin your comment so others can see it sooner

Thank you, I had no idea about the plate. Hopefully I don't have this issue again but I'll take a look at those liners and nylon
I think the copper is only if it’s worn
You’re probably right, I never figured it out. The original hinge copper was difficult to get out but once I did the hinge fit great. Thank you
I bet the top of that pin looks really sweet after bashing it a steel claw hammer. 👎
