    Simple...if you have a nice, flat, even ceilings, which isn't what I have. It's been a challenge for my sister and I, let me tell you! Interesting about dry hanging. My biggest problem has been finding something sharp enough to cut, rather than tear, (wet or dry), the excess paper at the walls. Thanks for the tips.

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The trick is not finding a shark enough nine; the trick is actually using a sharp knife and the angle at which you hold the blade; do not hold it as a 70° angle with the corner come bring your knife down to 20° or below and drag the nice and quick short spurts of movement and you will discover that you will not hear the paper simply because you will be using more of the shaft of the blade to do the cut

      Olfa snap off blades are the sharpest and best for wallpaper hanging.

    I have been a decorator for over 40yrs and I have never pasted a ceiling when I have put anaglypta on proper anaglypta will not tear cheap anaglypta will called embossed anaglypta need a soak time of between 10 to 15 mins and superglypta needs upto 25 mins it doesn't take that long to put up a length on a ceiling of you have a plank and two hop ups or steps you concertina the paper then place one end on the ceiling then open it up with your hand and a hanging brush going down the middle of the paper then to the outside walking on the plank all the time till you get to the other end

    HI Spencer...another great video. Do you ever spray the material with water and let it book for expansion?

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent question and yes, I do and unless you ask that, I wouldn’t tell people and here’s why. You must be a pro because you know that the water in the blue expands the paper. So common sense dictates if you just spritz it with a water sprayer, it will expand And therefore, you don’t have to wait for the glue to book and hang your paper. To me, and this is a way to eliminate the need for stocking up paper on the side that glued and then get debris thereon. I can spray them down, with water and then just apply the glue and just hang right away, but if you tell people that, they will say that I messed their wallpaper up.

    Great video! A few questions:
    - In the beginning you are saying “parallel” but are motioning for the seams to be *perpendicular* to the brightest light source, is this correct? Because seams would cast shadows?
    - should we always start in the center rather than an edge? Will 20% overage be enough?
    - at the end you mention to check the seams after an hour to see if they’ve swelled…. If they have, how do you fix them? Just press them down again with your tool/sponge?
    - when do you trim the edges?
    Thank you!

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Parallel to the wall against which you’re laying the paper. In other words, you don’t want the top of the sheet to be more far away from the wall; the top and the bottom should be equally distant from the wall. M
      20% extra is a great idea.
      Always plan from the center so that you wind up with both edges with the same amount against the wall.
      At the end I said that the seams, correct push them down with a wet sponge not your finger
      Because he will tear it.

    Would you ever need to crossline the ceiling first prior to installation the anaglypta??

    • @spencercolgan
      @spencercolgan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes if you had pointy bumps you could reduce them with cross lining paper; you would first scrape the bumps with a steel scraper and then come you would use the cross lining paper even though this wall covering would hide those long lines in plaster ceilings that are cracks; this wallpaper is perfect at hiding Minor flaws in old plaster type ceilings and walls

    Hey Spencer!! I currently rent an older house that is covered in wallpaper (think plaid, ducks, pine cones, river scene with a cabin and deer) it’s absolutely hideous!! One night I decided to start taking it down in the bathroom...bad idea!! I have removed wallpaper many times before but nothing I try gets it off. It might peel off a 2 in section at a time and in other places it’s bringing sheet rock with it. I’m wondering if it would be possible to patch the wall and sand everything down and put textured wallpaper in there (over bare spots and places where there is old wallpaper) Any advice would be very much appreciated bc I am out of ideas!! So sorry for the long post!

  • @elfprincessplume2515
    @elfprincessplume2515 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Tried this dry hang method and EPIC FAIL! Wasted glue and ripped up sheet of anaglypta wallpaper. The paper absolutely would not adhere to the paste on the ceiling at all. The room we were doing wasn't even half the size of this big room so not sure how you guys actually got your paper to adhere as you don't really show how you put it up, just shots of it after it's already up. Going to try the traditional method of getting the paper glued first then putting it up and see if that works better.

      @@spencercolgan Flat ceiling small or large, Size the area (Sizing ) UK meaning seal the area with the exact paste that you mean to hang the paper with !! Let it dry completely, then cut all your lengths when matched on a paste board wither it be 10 or 3, turn over and Paste ( If its blown vinyl paste 3-4 lengths or whatever you are comfortable with, and by the time you have pasted your forth the first one will be ready to hang, Fold it like an accordion, long lengths put a used roll underneath Use a soft paper hanging brush and apply to the ceiling, brush length wise not across, 1st length up and the rest will follow with your match, If any, Pencil in each end to the joint of ceiling and wall and cut 1- 2 millimetres, Cut immediately and brush in to crease, do not leave a gap !!!!! Butt join !! Just make sure every length has had 3 to 4 mins soaking, Same applies to walls with Blown vinyl,, Finish papers ie! Pattens and stuff normal paper, same as above but wash your paper down with clean warm water and not just the seam !!!! All the best
