I have ZERO guilt at winning with money. I came from nothing. My Dad made 14k a year for most my childhood. I'm winning now because I worked and sacrificed! NO GUILT!

I worked construction (running backhoes, bulldozers and excavators) for years out of highschool before I decided to strike out in this. I made 36k from 18-24 years old. Made 24-27k from 25-27 years old. I'm 29 now and I'll gross around 175k in 2021.

I agree. When my paid-off luxury car that was 13 years old, purchased certified pre-owned, got totalled, I bought a three year old, 17K mi CPO, same model. I paid cash. When co-worker asked, I acted disheartened over having a $500 car payment cutting deeply into my budget after being rear-ended. She even asked how many years my loan was. I acted like I had to reduce my retirement contributions to pay for the car.
Would be better to be the ‘good example’ and tell her you bought it with cash that was saved from keeping you old car for so long. Be the example for other people to strive for. Our neighbor mentioned to me their second house is almost paid for and got me thinking what good money planners they are. Similar jobs to my spouse and self so if they can do it we could too.

@Martin Vojković the things you purchase should be understated, no name brands, no flashy cars etc. Maybe become a minimalist? in conversations about money limit personal talk , most people love to talk about themselves so you will create a good image as a good listener, always deflect the conversation and do not offer too much information. Be careful not to invite too many people into your home, if you do, file your paperwork away.. Prepare your lunches for work, everyone notices the people that buy outside have money. Mainly, don’t show off, talk loudly about all of your accomplishments, someone is always listening.
It's a weird feeling when you look at your bank account and realise. You don't have to go work again this year. It's a great feeling though. The weird part is that nobody is happy for you. I quit my job to retrain, do some more lucrative agency work, try new things and add some excitement to my day job. What sounds like a gamble to others is me making a choice to be more intentional with my time. I no longer work for a pay check, my pay check is now a bonus that comes with experiencing new things. It just so happens to be a bigger pay check than before. Chasing money is a lot more fun when you're better at holding onto it.

Working at a bank this entire pandemic, I’ve seen all of the unemployment going into people’s accounts... I’ve seen close to $20k being deposited as back payment into accounts... I’m not surprised she was able to save 8 months while not working. Good for her for not spending it though!

It's called Survivor's Guilt and people who've experienced the lack i'm sure feel this when they have later on. But what can be done to combat this is to give back as much as you can.

I can totally relate. My wife and I don't party, don't burn money on entertainment, clothes and shoes. Meanwhile whenever we get or do something nice, there's always someone with their "oh it must be nice" comment. Dare I say anything about them walking out of their not so clean apartments looking like celebrities but living paycheck to paycheck or constantly on a payday advance through Amscot on instagram like they got it. I stop posting success on social media and life feels awesome. It's so nice living weird with no debt except a mortgage. My family and friends didn't even know we built a new construction and moved in until they stumbled across or there was no way to avoid mentioning it in conversation.
I think a way to get over the guilt is understanding that you did it, so it’s possible that others can do it too. But what’s happening is that you made the choice to get out of debt and they haven’t made that choice.

The pandemic showed millions of people that you could be out of work for 9 or 10 months with unemployment running out my wife and I were blessed enough to save 12 months as an emergency fund. Maybe the guilt comes from her not working all that time and the husband being able to provide that safety net for the family, and now wanting to spend some of it. I know it's THEIR money, but I would feel a little guilty I'm that situation too.
It’s okay to feel guilty. It took me a long time to figure out that guilt was usually because you can’t make anyone else take this kind of responsibility with their personal finance. People would rather find ways they can’t do something instead of ways they can.
I also have done pretty well during the pandemic I was able to save 10k in 4 months (both stimulus checks helped).People have a way of making you feel like you shouldn’t be treating yourself because so many other people are having a difficult time at the moment. A lot of people told me you don’t need the stimulus check you never lost your job.

I don’t think you should feel guilty. If anything, I hope that it shows others what is possible. As long as your not being snotty, why feel bad. You can always try to help people get to where you are
You should be feeling amazing, I get people excited on my channel when I talk about money. It is a huge step forward in life when you have your finances under control. GET EXCITED!
Maybe the guilt comes from her not working all that time and the husband being able to provide that safety net for the family, and now wanting to spend some of it. I know it's THEIR money, but I would feel a little guilty I'm that situation too.
I sometimes feel this way.
It’s okay to feel guilty. It took me a long time to figure out that guilt was usually because you can’t make anyone else take this kind of responsibility with their personal finance. People would rather find ways they can’t do something instead of ways they can.

Instead of being proud of your accomplishments try being grateful and help others when you can. It makes it a lot harder to feel guilty.

I also have done pretty well during the pandemic I was able to save 10k in 4 months (both stimulus checks helped).People have a way of making you feel like you shouldn’t be treating yourself because so many other people are having a difficult time at the moment. A lot of people told me you don’t need the stimulus check you never lost your job.
