For those wondering I will do a separate cover for the original PC 98 version eventually. It is uncertain when it will happen since there are currently other projects lined up but it's on my to-do spreadsheet.
The original of this song can trace back to the ancient time, when the people play this song as a part of harvest ritual. By offering a "Bad apple" and playing this song to the famine god, he will go away and take the famine with him, result a good farming and plentiful harvested crop. I think it would be good to have some kind of folklore behind this medieval masterpiece like this 😁😁😁
Once a year in this land of fantasy, Gensokyo. There was a tradition to pray the local Gods to took away disaster and famine by doing a performance for 1 night straight. One of the most well known music for the performance were Bad Apple. Just like the name suggest, it was based from one of the tradition activity by leaving one bad rotten apple in an altar in the middle of the performance, when every requirements where fully done. The bad apple that was rotten will turn into a fresh and sweet healthy apple. When this state acquired, this mean the performance were successful and the God is satisfied, if the bad apple didn't change it means the performance were failure and the performance shall be done in the next night with different local Gods. This tradition also leads to the creation of one more local songs that sang by children in most village named "The Gensokyo The God's Loved".

But that is getting a bit advanced for most, since the only part that gets shared publicly is that Cain killed her brother. The part about human sacrifices to god being its favorite gets left out. Kind of has to be since human sacrifice tends to be rather unpopular among humans in practice, for some odd reason. Consequence of being equal to god by eating the fruit of knowledge.

Some cultures record them as Abel and Cain, or even Izanagi and Izanami - some as Cronus and Rhea - the specifics often shift about, but the symbols echo and resonate through history. Seth was a simple farmer, whereas his brother took to herding and leading animals. Mind you, just because it looks human does not mean it is human - and the first king was their shepherd. When offerings to their patron god were made - Seth made offerings from the harvest of his crops while Osiris offered burnt offerings of his people. God favored the animal sacrifices. It was then that Seth began to realize something was amiss with their god, and Seth arrived at his decision. God, or at least whatever it was which lorded over their garden, was evil. He invited Osiris to the fields, where a battle unfolded. She eventually found a lady from the East, a Sleeping Terror and Master of Seasons - Elly took naturally to the role of the Reaper and stood guard at the gate to the mansion seated within Reality. The gate was labeled the boundary between fantasy and reality. Every so often, she contends with those roused from the bliss of the fantasy world. Every generation has those who chase the demons which plague them back to their source - the reality - beyond her gate and the Sleeping Terror, the Master of Seasons. Even though she is the Grim Reaper, seasons naturally have little reason to fear her. The fourth wall will not save you.
