    Miss Frankie, you are one TOUGH young lady! Just in case no one has told you, that's a big Southern compliment, meaning you're multi talented, hard working and very smart! Your parents are raising you right! 🙏❤🙏

    Excellent first run with the new row builder. Frankie letting you be the first to use it shows that she has a good head on her shoulders and wants to learn things from other peoples experience’s.

    I am a fabricator at heart, I love seeing new equipment being built and refined. You are on to a great thing here. One thing that might help with the less than ideal soil conditions is maybe taking a grinder with a wire wheel and cleaning the inside so that the soil has a smoother surface and less friction allowing the dirt to move freely. I learned a trick years ago with a shovel,if it is clean and smooth digging is much easier. Wish you the best with this project, and please keep up to date.

    Welcome to Mississippi. Don’t know exactly how long you guys have here but did notice 2610 tractor and equipment. A suggestion if you don’t know, use a 6 or 7 foot steel fence post to move equipment while hooking or unhooking! Makes hooking up with the standard 3 point hitch much easier.

    Mike, you could incorporate on the back of the tiller a roller to drop Bio360 film, and you could use the Row builder to cover up the film on the sides so the wind doesn't blow it away. Then just hand shovel some dirt on each end.

  • @randygalloway618
    @randygalloway618 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Boy, that thing is really going to be a game changer for that tiller. I haven't owned one of those but a friend has one and one thing it lacked was a good way to lay off rows. This will fix that for sure. You are right, the best way to do it is to till without it and then come back to lay off rows. You could probably pull that in to the second notch and make a perfect well mounded row in good soil conditions. My Daddy always believed in having good "middles" to hold water between the rows in dry times and keep the seed/plants up in wet times. Ideally, you'd have a tractor like the old single row Farmalls or John Deere models to do a garden with, but this will do. You will just have to put down plastic or do something for weed control.
    If this video was shot close to the current date, you may be a bit late for planting potatoes. I grew up in Central Mississippi about 90 miles south of you and we usually tried to get them in by mid March for harvest in mid June-ish. You may have trouble with potato bugs and other vermin by going later. Funny story about planting potatoes. My mother and father got married in the late 40's and made their first garden at our home place in 1950. They apparently got into a big fight about how to put the seed potatoes into the ground, with my Daddy insisting that the "eyes" go UP. My Mama thought that was insane and she just dropped them wherever. Turned out it didn't appear to matter and they didn't get divorced over it, thus I survived to comment on this! :)

    Looking good and with tilling first pass and then attach the row builder and dryer soil should really be good. Also you can get hiller discs for your tractor to hill the potatoes as they grow.

    Took my 6' "light duty" 3pt blade that bent in the middle, cut in half and made a 5' wide v-blade. It works great for snow removal and as a reverse "V"box blade for grading and with height extensions, does my raised beds. Really practical. Nice job on that rototiller set-up PS also installed cheap rear license plate camera, and i never looked back 😊

    you need to taper the front of the steel channel or use a narrower steel so the the cutter blades roll up more dirt and dig up more volume of dirt to pile in to the row and make the funnel smaller in the rear [basically dig deeper to pile higher]

    The bottom flange on the hiller is holding it up just like the side shoes on the tiller. remove the bottom flange and you will see improved hilling and save time and fuel.

    • @bslturtle
      @bslturtle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, but also maybe, if they left about 4-6" of the bottom flange, bent down at the front, maybe that would help "pull" the hiller down into the ground? Obviously I am not sure, but the unit is not going into the ground. 🤔

    I think maybe run the tiller first without the row builder to get some depth, looks like the flange on the bottom of the channel is acting like a skid and sliding on the hard ground. Get a deep till then try the row builder.

    I think the concept has merit but i think the height of the I Beam is what is killing the design. As it stands the tiller is not able to depress further into the soil. How about cutting 4 inches off the bottom and adding it to the top of the i beam. That would create a much deeper row. Also the soil is way to wet.

    single bottom turning plow way then do it on the other side of planned bed area and have the soil turned into each other add manure, fertilizer or azomite; then till once or twice without hiller, the third pass add hiller and it will give you 8-12inch deep garden bed hills.

    A reverse rotating tiller won't pile the soil in your shaper like a forward rotating tiller will, i would remove the bottom lip to allow the shaper to go deeper and collect more soil on the second try.
