    my son and I have been digging them up for a while... had trouble figuring out which is the front and back. I kept thinking what a weird face, and didn't know I was looking at his butt.

    If you turn the female mole crab over, the eggs appear an orange color. As he said, they carry them until hatching. They have no pinching claws, just legs for burrowing in the sand. Shore birds are constantly looking for them.

    A simple short explanatory video with no music very good! It was all the information I needed at this time, thanks.

    If you ever decide to fish from the beach do yourself a favor and put some of these on your hook. One of the best and free baits you will ever find. Just about everyone down here in Florida uses them for bait, and catches tons of fish with them.

    back in 2019 October i went to the Oregon coast in Lincoln city. It was my first time being at the ocean and in the morning we went to the beach. I picked up some of the sand and felt something crawling in my hand and was surprised to see a mole crab. I knew it was a mole crab because I was in a zoology class and we learned about these cute lil buddies. None the less, they are very small, very cute, and pretty harmless and I was glad to hold a few of them. :)

    Great video, informative and no loud background music. I'd like to see it one someday.

    I remember somewhere along the Oregon coast I was with my family and my dad found these stripes in the sand and knew what they were while me and the rest of my family didn’t. He called them tickle crabs and they crawled all over us and it felt like they were tickling us to death. That was a good time

    I've always been the one to show the kids in my family how to spot and catch sand crabs. I've also shown them how to tell the females by showing them the eggs they carry on their underside and to leave them alone because "they're pregnant". I was hoping for a picture of one here.

    One day in May at Montana de Oro, The beach was absolutely boiling with baby sand crabs, zillions of them. Receding waves roiled as the tiny crustaceans wriggled back into the sand.

    Good point on demoic acid. Check with local fish & wildlife for demoic acid in crabs. Outdoor Chef Life and others have verified they can be good to eat.

      Sand fleas are something else. These are sand crabs or mole crabs.

    • @xxfalconarasxx5659
      @xxfalconarasxx5659 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@myScienceBlast Actually, Sand Crabs are indeed sometimes called Sand Fleas. I'm guessing the "something else" that you are referring to is the Talitridae, which are also known as Sand Fleas.

    You say you can eat them. But I have yet to see any of these creatures being featured in any menu. And the one person on TH-cam who I actually did see being brave enough to try them out said they tasted pretty awful.
