Surf Fishing In So Cal
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 20 ก.ย. 2016
Welcome to Surf Fishing In So Cal. My name is Nick Heid and I began surf fishing in 2014. Ever since my first session, I've been hooked. I started an information-based website and blog back in 2019 and it's turned into a full-blown guiding business and community for surf fishermen across Southern California. And, of course, this TH-cam channel was then born. Stay tuned for more of my surf fishing adventures and if you haven't started surf fishing just yet, get ready to leave the lakes behind and as I change your perspective of San Diego fishing..

Easy How To Unhook a Stingray
มุมมอง 12Kปีที่แล้ว
This is the easiest and best way to unhook a stingray. If done properly, you don't even have to touch the sting ray. Step 1: Leave the ray in the water (or on the sand) while you place your rod between your arm and your body to free both hands. Step 2: Grab your leader with one hand and hold your pliers in the other. Step 3: Lift the ray out of the water (by your leader) and grab the hook with ...

Quick question, does your weight line get tangled with the bait line when you cast it?
@@dextermd19 no for the most part it does not. If my rig starts to get old and beat up and a little kinked, it’s more likely too, but still even then it mostly does not.
What are the good months for surf fishing and bad ones?
@@JK-mf4hx surffishingsocalsd.com/best-time-of-year-for-surf-fishing-sand-diego/
I'm bummed that you have exposed my backyard fishing hole. That's all good very informative video. Good job in reading the beach break. Tight lines
could this work but with 65 pound main line braid then 40lb mono as leader then the three way rig with the wire leader with the circle hooks but just one and a 6 oz pyramid sinkers?
@@raulisrael7342 absolutely. Little different obviously a bit lighter and the pyramid won’t hold in as strong of current as the Sputnik but it’ll work in calm conditions 100%
Drop down on the lead line test. May catch some bigger fish.
Love your videos. Very informative
@@PAULREADDY thanks, Paul!
Dude love the vids!! Do u think that rod and leader could hold up against a 100+ pound bat? Also what size sputnik weight should i use? Thanks
@@profisherman08 6oz Sputnik and absolutely! I’ve landed numerous bat rays over 50” across all being well over 100lbs. Including a 58” wingspan
@@surffishinginsocal ok great! How long do these leaders last?
@@profisherman08 totally depends. Sometimes they’ll last 5 or 6 uses. Sometimes after 1 session, whatever current and seaweed were out there tangle it all up. In that case, it’s still structurally sound, but it’s not the best looking leader. Other times if you store it wet, it can rust and then if the wire casing has been knicked, the rust might get through to the wires. When the rust gets the wires you’re likely to see one of the strands of wire break and at that point I toss them. But that’s typically after a couple uses. On average I guess I’d say they last my 5 sessions a piece.
@@surffishinginsocal thanks, I might pick some up! What tide do u like to fish the leos?
@@profisherman08 Tides don’t matter to me at all for Leo’s. If anything, I just don’t like it when the tide gets too high (maybe above 5.5ft) as it can get a little turbulent and amplify seaweed, swell and current.
Nice vid 👍
@@JLTFishing thanks!

@@BunglingBob appreciate the kind words🤙
Around how long does it usually take for action after u cast in
@@AU.PG08 very much depends on time of year but it varies a lot. From April - June this year, it was automatic. Never missed in a 4 hour session. From July - now, it’s been about 50%. Sometimes right away, sometimes a full 3-4 hours before getting hit. If you can get a solid 15-30 minute soak you’re looking good
where is this at
As the water goes out look for the water to make v shapes. That's where you will find them. I remember as a kid in California I filled a 5 gallon bucket overflowing in less than 5 minutes. I released them afterwords but I was curious about them.

What part of the beach where you at to catch them
Casting distance is relative to where you are in the surf. If you've waded out to your thighs; it's a short cast. If your in knee highs barely in a roll up wave ; it's along cast. If one is in water thigh deep surf perch may be swimming around you.
Where is this?? Also, why keep bigger sand crabs if u don't use them??
@@SDPBALLCOACH if you watch the vid you’ll see I say don’t use anything 1.5x the size of the biggest one I had. I use all the crabs I keep or release them at the end of the day. This was in so cal.
