Paul, You've got 11 years to get like him! Get working! Great video. I am in the current physique challenge (challenge number 2) and have shed the weight. Next goal is to build some muscle over the next few months. I will be 60 in January, still working as a firefighter, and have never felt better. Would love more videos with John. Inspiring for us old guys! Thank you.
after lifting for 30 years, this is as good as I am going to be, John has some fantastic genetics and many years training and eating to max out his potential!
You guys look amazing! My sister and I just started training together again and did an InBody scan. Same goal as John! Once a month scan to hopefully see the body fat percentage go down and muscle mass increase. 👊🏼💥 Great stuff 👍🏼
I also use non linear periodization. Definitely going to utilizing it more now that my competition season is over. Judges feedback was to bring up my chest and shoulders. One workout I focused on heavy compound lifts. Then, next time will be more isolation exercises. Can’t wait to work with Coach Sarah again next year for the next round of shows! 💪💪💪
Great video, Guys. Turning 64 next month and still hitting the weights 3 times a week and hiking 3 times a week. I don't look as good as you guys but I ain't too bad, haha.
Turning 65 next month (no TRT) and in the best shape of my life. At work, I have been mistaken for being in my 40's and that was just a few months ago. Lifting heavy and mountain biking (singlespeed) and no-nonsense eating keep me in better shape than most in their 20s.
I am 62, feeling the best and strongest as I have ever been. This is mostly because of high quality scientific information available on YT nowadays. Pushing hard to build muscles. Very similar program as described. Mainly compound movements, progressive overload and supersets for every parts of the body with full ROM and strict form. I follow the learning from Layne Norton, Dr. Mike RP, Wolf Coaching and Menno Henselmans.
Ok Paul, Been training for 35 years,How to push the muscles with arthritis in both shoulders, legs are great! The inflammation caused during training and the day of/ after is very painful! Thanks for any good info!! I eat great, does anyone experience this and how do you keep growing muscle without all this pain? Training with 40% weight doesn’t work for me, it’s like an aerobic workout instead of weight training.
i had shoulders issues and went to see a PT, he helped me reactivate some muscles in the shoulder, mostly the suprasprinatus, that was not firing properly through rehab movements and dry needling along with sitting properly and now I am pain free. If you have not seen a PT then I recommend it. I am not familiar with how arthritis works but I felt I was injured and I was just not moving properly. Now I am pain free!
@ Thanks Paul!! For your quick response!, much appreciated!! It’s so frustrating, dealing with this pain, mainly all pushing exercises. I went to an orthopedic dr, had pt and have been making progress slowly but with reoccurring issues. I was given an anti-inflammatory Diclofenac 75 mg. It works like a miracle! But how long before my stomach erodes 😂 And I take it ONLY when absolutely necessary , 1 every decent chest day.
I would like to see a variety of your coaches and their training/nutrition regimes. John appears to represent the body "building" segment. For instance, highlight, someone whose goal is to be an all around athlete and not necessarily someone who is trying to get big and put on mass. I respect them all, but would be cool to see the varying ways they train and their nutritional habits (men and women) for their different goals.
I'm 58. I am a natural bodybuilder. At this point, I train chest and shoulders with DBs only. The ability to change hand position throughout the range of motion is ideal to avoid injury, and using DBs promotes the greatest amount of stress for the entire rep. The only thing I didn't like was that John throws his DBs on the ground when done. Unlike Paul, who brings his knees up to meet the DBs and then sits up. That's how you should do it.
TRT or not, the man puts in the work and diet, or he wouldn't look like that. I'm 61 and on TRT. Does it help to build muscle? Of course, but only because I put in the work in the gym, and I still don't look like John! TRT alone will not do that for you.
@@GotChrist60 The two things I noticed first were increased energy and libido. I just didn't have energy for anything beforehand. Next came greater mental clarity. I had been in a mental fog for a long time. Then my workout regimen kicked in and I noticed increased musculature. I used a men's health center in the St. Louis area called Victory Men's Health.
Thanks @paulrevelia great content as always - I’m 52 and live in Australia, I may give you a shout in the new year for a training and diet plan - I want to get leaner(currently about 20% BF and would like to be 12-15%) and then prep for my next Hyrox - I definitely want to run twice a week as a minimum - is this something you could help me with?
62, my right shoulder sounds like it has gravel in it...been going lower weight on incline n flat bench... fir some reason the chest machine does not hurt so going heavy on it. thoughts ? I'd love to go heavy on the benches again...
@@BARBELLS-AND-BUDSI disagree. The small amount of trt keeps the levels normal and accounts for maybe 5 pounds of muscle. Without it, I would have basically the same physique just a little flatter. I have 47 years of consistent hard training behind me (no layoffs) and 5 months of dieting to lose the body fat. This notion that trt is the main reason for my physique is grossly overstating its benefits. There are millions of people in this country who are on trt and they don’t look like this because it doesn’t automatically translate into a ripped, muscular physique.
When he said pushing the muscle does that mean pushing until you feel like you're going to pass out extreme discomfort pain and trembling?? Or does he mean pushing the muscle until you feel the burn but not so much that you're going to pass out blackout? I don't understand what people mean when they say push the muscle or go as hard as you can what does that mean exactly??
until the muscle can't go any longer, the only time you will feel like passing out is on some of the lower body days where larger muscles create oxygen deficit.
@PaulRevelia but technique has to be good right? Because if I lift more than what I can handle I get wobbly and wiggly, for example I can't overhead press with 15 lb dumbbells, I'll definitely feel the burn if I push 15 lb dumbbells but I will be wobbly and it hurts, I can do 12 lb dumbbells ok while still holding good technique But if you're pushing hard does technique matter? or is it okay to wobble and wiggle when lifting a super heavy weight?
I’m 54 and since I started training with appropriate volume and frequency, I don’t need deloads, which are a symptom of excessive volume. You should be able to fully recover between workouts and see regular PO.
Please let me know if you would enjoy more content with John!
John is the man. Living Legend. Would love to see a video on his macros while cutting and day of eating. Great content as always Paul.
Yes, more videos with John please!! Such an inspiration for those of us who 'aren't 20 anymore'..!
@@TheMightyMrQuinn Yes, let us know about his diet and such.

Haha the elephant in the room
TRT and HGH

I appreciate the kind words!
Heavy weight doesn't seem to worry me as far as muscle growth. It's the stress on my ligaments and tendons that force a deload in my case.
Absolutely please add more videos from Mr Hansen…..This content is great for long term training!!!!!!

have you worked with a PT at all? I had shoulders issues until I got some dry needling and did some rehab exercises. Now it's like it never happene3d.
Do you have clients that train with a once a week frequency?
Let's please not pretend like dumbbells versus machines gave the guy that much muscle while that lean at 61
maybe you missed the conversation about that topic, it's just what he prefers.
@@PaulRevelia Im politely saying, the Testosterone and or other anabolic is why he looks like a pro bodybuilder at 60

TRT certainly helps.
If you are going to be ripped after 60, helps to be ripped before 60. That and a big dose of T.
