Merry Christmas everybody! Hope you've all enjoyed the flood of killer classics this holiday season. I gotta say, how friggin' cool is *this* one!? The IROC Series at Burke Lakefront Airport! It only happened twice (the other year was '84), and I have the 2nd and final race right here for us all to enjoy! Hell yeah!
It was really wide race track which made for some excellent passing zones when entering the corners. It was one if my favorites on the indy car circuit. But the greatest track of all time is in my home state of Wisconsin. ROAD AMERICA, nothing can compare.
when you think about hes been in races with just about everyone gotta be the only driver that was teammates with Stirling Moss, Mika Hakkinen. Michael Schumacher and Carlos Sainz! (snr)
The race had to be run at dusk because the Firecracker 400 had ran long because of that early race crash. The Cup guys were late flying back for the IROC race
they had things called private jets back then too, ya know, and Daytona International Airport was built next to the track for that very reason in 1973, it also allows fans from all over the world to fly into the track and not have to walk far, there's a shuttle bus that takes fans from the terminal to the grandstands
Dodge Daytona......Dodge had a "Daytona" hatchback that was essentially a re-engineered Mitsubishi in the 80s up to 1992 when the Viper essentially replaced it in 1994, the "charger" nameplate didn't come back to showrooms until 2005, however a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) concept was introduced at the 1999 Detroit International Auto Show....ran on Natural Gas because in the 90's everyone was saying Natural Gas would eventually replace conventional liquid fuel as "the future" because this was the time when gas prices were going over $1.95 a gallon.
Immediately after checkered flag i hustling out to install new high preforming rotors and pads on my silverado 2500hd so i can beat my record time to git to work 😊
Because such is a life of a racecar driver, there are the wins and the finishes and then there is the heartbreak and the crashes, that's racing. The made it to show that all these great men are human and in fact have as many incidents as they do triumphs.
These IROC races were so much fun..!! Typical crappy Dodge with bad brakes, not enough HP and poor handling. These guys are running on 3 wheels around the turns..!!!

That crash-filled intro is amazing. It's like having someone say how great I am with women while showing a reel of me getting rejected over and over.
I noticed that!
HAHAHAHA!
I miss this track so much.
friskynixon and it nearly came back too

This track should be added to ProjectCars2 imo
The good ol opening from the old days that was all crash highlights while talking about how great a driver is.
The stories Brundle must have, going up against Senna and Earnhardt.
when you think about hes been in races with just about everyone gotta be the only driver that was teammates with Stirling Moss, Mika Hakkinen. Michael Schumacher and Carlos Sainz! (snr)
it was nearly sundown on this day,,i was timeing and scoring all races that weekend.
cheers from turin,italy
What a race by Brundle!!!
You are a legend of the 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s.
William Kavalko I second that 🍻
Probably the best iRoc road race.
So who else is here for Martin Brundle?
This didn't age well....
Great race! Missing a lot of those fellas competing in their respective fields.
Was such a good track. I wish they'd starting racing there again.
IROC.
Pure racing.
Cars,tracks and drivers.
Great for motor sport fans.
The race had to be run at dusk because the Firecracker 400 had ran long because of that early race crash. The Cup guys were late flying back for the IROC race
Dale Sr had just won the Pepsi 400 down at Daytona earlier in he day prior to this race.
they had things called private jets back then too, ya know, and Daytona International Airport was built next to the track for that very reason in 1973, it also allows fans from all over the world to fly into the track and not have to walk far, there's a shuttle bus that takes fans from the terminal to the grandstands
The fact that Martin finished 5th at Talladega the race before shows how good he was. I am pretty sure he had never raced on an oval like that before.
Mark Martin shared this video on Twitter today
Very cool!
The King of IROC, back when he was an IROC rookie.
I miss the IROC :(
now this is a rare gem :D Merry Christmas SMIFF TV
Those dodges were sexy!
This is so much fun to watch.
Starting Grid at 11:22
Brundle, He would Join Murray Walker in the broadcast booth in 1997
Sadly Prost and Senna never raced in IROC.
IROC preferd drivers from US based series, F1 wasn’t popular in the US anyway back in 1990
Emmo vs Little Al vs Dale at Burke Lakefront Airport. Fucking epic. This is peak IROC.
Dale Earnhardt on a Temporary Road Course, not something you saw everyday.
He won the Pepsi 400 at Daytona earlier that day lol.
It's interesting in the intro how they're touting how good these drivers are yet they show each one of them crashing...
13:07 Rusty Wallace channels his inner Steve Wallace.
Like father, like son... Think about it, won't you?
#BringBackIROCin2020
12:18 race start
Brundle obviously his normal, cheeky self.
why Martin Brundle pumps the brakes on straight line ?
This is awesome. The road course guys had a chance to beat up on the nascar guys
I didn’t knew f1 star Martin Brundle raced IROC.
33kalam Me too. Brundle also did real good in the 1990 IROC at Talladega finishing 4th or 5th.
I see they’re running Dodge engines, but what Dodge engines were they using?
355 ci V8. 450 hp
I’d love to go back to $1.95 gas... like right now would be great.
Immediately after checkered flag i hustling out to install new high preforming rotors and pads on my silverado 2500hd so i can beat my record time to git to work 😊
how we ever thought that the helmet style that dale wore was safe and would do its job is mind blowing
I wear it racing, it was the lack of HANs and head support on the seats that lead to dales death
Earnhardt winning at daytona then flying to cleveland to go from last place to 5th. Then still had enough energy to troll al unser jr lol
I tend to thrash a rental car too!
Love all these drivers but why did they show all of them crashing lol? I'd be pissed
Because such is a life of a racecar driver, there are the wins and the finishes and then there is the heartbreak and the crashes, that's racing. The made it to show that all these great men are human and in fact have as many incidents as they do triumphs.
This is racing

So
Earnhardt top 5. Not bad
Kurt C Earnhardt was always a underrated Road Course racer.
Old Man Logan indeed. Shows here
