I love Gal Civ, But the lore has two completely unbelievable things for me. 1 that the other races never developed fusion and 2 that we would share hyperdrives with everyone.
In a galaxy of only rational actors, sharing fusion power and hyperdrives should have created infinite prosperity that rendered war obsolete. But this is a galaxy were at least half of prominent powers are motivated primarily by an irrational desire for genocidal conquest.
@@raphaelrodriguez8316 Not like Stellaris, where 9/10 of the powers are motivated primarily by an irrational desire for genocidal conquest. And the remaining 1/10 are just looking for erradicate all life in galazy.
Thanks for this video. I have been a GalCiv fan since the first game. The story and lore(not to mention gameplay) have gotten better with each iteration. I'm looking forward to you making some GalCiv videos just like your Stellaris videos.
One thing btw. Pretty sure humanity was perfectly willing to let the Xendar live as a species and just blockade their home system while the Council sorted things out from there. But the Drengin, terrified that their involvement would come to light and the 'now savage humans' would come for them, basically sent down strike teams covertly who detonated WMD's across the Xendar homeworld. Humanity never found out and just played off it diplomatically.
I played third GalCiv and it was great. But I encountered bug, that just did not let me end turn and it repeated on every playthrough, sometimes early, sometimes late, but always,it was there, lurking in the shadows of the code... So after a few attempts, I stoped playing...
Interesting, but I feel like your forgetting someone. Wasn't there a race of aliens from the future? I forget what they were called in GC3. My custom race in that game was designed using their template.
Yes, I left them out as I had introduced alot of empires already and didn't want to confuse the overarching story to much. Same reason I didn't address why there are now two human factions
I got lucky and nabbed Galactic Civilizations 2 while it was free on Steam. After playing it a lot, it seems I haven't touched or even thought about it since 2018. Maybe I'll get 3 when it goes on sale.
It's quite good, just be aware I've had constant trouble with multiplayer and none of it was ever really fixed. Outside that it's a genuinely good game for single player
Yeah completely agree, in the back of my mind I was going to do a seperate video on them and events surrounding them. In a similar vein I omitted Humanities split, although smaller i just felt it was alot to get into one introductory video.
@@TheRedKing Yeah good point. Still a second video on the details for the lore woulden't be a miss either. The world building is very interesting in the GC games
I was sad GC4 did not continue the story campaign for us to paly through. They said so few players did it they didn't bother ... oh well. Oh, also, going EPIC exclusive first was meh and I'm not a fan of this AI content. But I adore The Red King doing LORE so regardless of my salty feelings VS Stardock I'll give the video a thumbs up. I have put a few hours into it, it's enjoyable and the backstory is great. I believe Montu Plays has some gameplay footage if you want to see what the gameplay is like. I would recommend the game if you enjoy the 4x genre, however I think if it was my money i'd probably wait for a sale. It's £41.99 atm, which I think is probably a bit expensive.
@@TheRedKing it is a old game but still checks out, they have various factions that have range and all the planets have different governments, well worth it to look into the lore.
Rather unrealistic non of the aliens have discovered fusion power where freaking stars are literally everywhere in the universe.... Not to mention fusion power isn't even the most advanced form of energy source scienist have envisioned.
They discovered fusion power, they could not make it widespread and economical before. Our own world has fusion power for at least 70 years now but making those reactors actually practical and produce net energy (so far they take more energy to operate than what they produce) is a whole other issue. I feel humans reproducing FTL technology and reusing it for hyperdrives is the major copout. It should've taken significant time for their civilization regardless. The entire timeline of GalCiv is a bit strangely accelerated.
I'm not sure why humanity is shocked utopia doesn't exist. We keep being shocked when one country or another decides to do there own thing now contrary to uptopian thinking.
"Is the fourth entry in a long running franchise which has been around for nearly 15 years a 'rip off' of a newer game than the first two entries in said series" that's basically what you're asking.
@@marcusblackwell2372lol, no worries, basically Galciv has also always been turn based instead of real time and almost always includes several 'campaign scenarios' with specific win conditions and the like. The fusion part I agree with; but I can foresee a world where we shared hyperdrives... naively so but nevertheless, could happen!
Ok, that's probably true
To nit-pick, they did say "advanced" fusion, not just fusion - so I interpreted it as the aliens having fusion, but the humans have better fusion.

He kind of forgot about the Thalan Empire. I know they are not part of the Galaxy anymore but their part within in the story was significant.

There needs to be a TV series based on all this lore
They should make an Netflix show about this
Yeah i'm all for more Scifi shows!

Very interesting.
