    Thanks for the video. Just installed these. For anyone else, the front panel covers slide right out backwards and then drop down once the screw is removed. No need for a tool to pinch the clips. Install same in reverse. You just need to put pressure on the locking tabs as you slide backwards

    Installed the kit today, and I have an odd follow-up question:
    The front jack pad had a small hole in it, which lines up with a hole the same size in the new trim piece under/around it. Should there be a trim clip there, to hold these together?

    • @khuo0219
      @khuo0219 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I installed one, stops the jack pad from spinning. if you have a box of them, just find one that fits.

  • @johnforsyth8414
    @johnforsyth8414 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    For the front are you jacking on top of the plastic trim panel? Or do you have to remove that to jack on the rubber pad underneath?
    Also is there a kit for the VW GTI MK8?

    • @andyhedin4893
      @andyhedin4893 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Came to the comments wondering the same thing. I'm thinking that nothing needs to be removed prior to jacking up the car, but a clarification on that point would be nice.

    Paul my understanding of these oem jack pads is that they're for use ONLY with four point lifts?? Using a floor jack on the points puts a lot more force through them. Obviously though your video looked like it went alright. Please could you confirm they're definitely designed to be safe for use with a floor jack vs a lift?

    • @akathesquid5794
      @akathesquid5794 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      agreed - until I get ANYONE to answer this question I'd not use these "lift point" independently using a floor jack. I have to assume since no one has answered this question in the affirmative anywhere on the internets that, officially, it is a bad idea and not the design intent of the points

    • @vidarg75
      @vidarg75 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Akathe Squid Did you get a definitive answer to this?

    • @akathesquid5794
      @akathesquid5794 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No I have not and I kept looking. No one with the authority to state these are strong enough to, or designed to distribute enough load to, support the car was or will do so. ECS sells these frame inserts and a special jack pad and they won't even officially acknowledge that you can use them for anything but 4-point lifts. I remain skeptical.
      Note that, yes, each point is designed to essentially support 1/4 the weight of the car, but also when you lift the car off the ground from one point you are loading more than 1/4 the car weight (see both side wheels leave ground when jacking the car? that's way more than 1/4 the weight being supported now at the jack)

    • @vidarg75
      @vidarg75 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked around when ECS first began to offer these, but no one would confirm anything, as you know. I know a couple of VW/Audi technicians and they wouldn't trust those points to support on-point jacking. So my inserts just sits there, looking pretty.

    • @nofaithjusthope8714
      @nofaithjusthope8714 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      On3SlyFox...This is the same issue I found with the MK4, yeah there are these jack points on there BUT they are meant for "lifting ALL 4 corners" at the same time...they are not intended for jacking one corner at a time. I jack my MK4 from the subframe in front with piece of wood spanning subframe in front & put jack stands under pinch rails, in rear I jack beam axle from middle again using piece of wood (to spread load) put jack stands under pinch welds. VW never has made their cars user friendly for DIY.
      As I don't have MkVII I have no idea how to (safely lift w/o damage) that series of Mk.
      BTW the jack used in this video is the same style I have...that's the best place to start. If you don't have one get the jack first NOT these "jack pads" you just might find the long & low jack is what you need to raise your car safely and w/o damage.
