@@dgoodin24 I don't get why TH-cam won't let people use music from The Beatles or if someone were to upload episodes from the cartoon show, the songs are cut off or muted. I grew up with both Ringo and George. Looking back on it, I would love to hear Ringo narrate (as he's very smooth and calming) while George did the voices (as he had range and gave each character their own sound).
For Ringo, it’s like if he brought a books series to the small screen. For George, it’s like an official TV show with voice actors. So both have a unique way of doing it.
I have always been captivated by The voice of Ringo Starr ever since the very beginning his narration line still stick with me to this very day after all these years knowing the stories word to word and even tried to match the same accent! And it’s still Great that he still alive too!
I loved Shining Time Station as a kid and still do. I loved both Ringo and George as Mr. Conductor. I remember watching the show with my mom, sister, and stepdad. My mom and stepdad knew who Ringo was and told my sister and me that he was a member of The Beatles.
I think Ringo is my favourite narrator, since I grew up with VHS's of his UK dubs. To me he felt like a father who was reading these stories to their child who was trying to sleep. His calm and soothing voice perfectly fits the world of Thomas, and I wish he had done more work
If we didn’t have Ringo, we wouldn’t have the classic themes we all know and love. (Mike O’Donnell was Ringo’s studio manager and learned about Thomas through Ringo and Junior learned through Mike as revealed in a Q&A video)
Damn I’m just now finding out Ringo was the narrator for this show. I remember watching the early episodes of Thomas as reruns on Treehouse when I was a kid.
Ringo didn't completely redo his narrations for Shining Time Station in the U.S., he just redid lines that were changed over (whether it be name changes, terminology or certain phrases being considered "too mean").
For some reason, the first 2 seasons made it feel like an entirely different show for me. The 80’s styled music, its symbolic story book visuals, the environment and camera model, and Ringo Starr himself. To me, it’s like I’m watching an adaptation of the Railway Series and the rest of the show actually feels like Thomas and Friends. The first two seasons really showed me how to make an 80’s like show, and it’s incredible.
I loved Thomas the Tank Engine as a youngster, and it has been my childhood. I can't imagine Thomas without Ringo Starr. Ringo, happy 83rd birthday (as I am typing this on his 83rd bday), and thanks for making my childhood with your lovely voice. Long Live Ringo Starr, Peace and Love
I didn’t start listening to Ringo’s narrations until later on, since I grew up with George Carlin. But when I listened to the first 2 seasons, I honestly thought I was watching a completely different show. RiNgO is a great narrator: not only does he have a cool voice but he emphasized on specific words that make the delivery work, like a close shave for duck, for example.
I had that same feeling, it’s like if I was watching a 1970’s sitcom about talking trains featuring sometimes either a drummer from the Beatles or a stand comedian who is hilarious on South Park levels of comedy, poking fun at the world just for laughs. 😊
Must have been daunting finding the right "voice for Thomas considering Britt probably heard 100+ actors but I think she made the right choice as was Michael Angelis.
I feel like a majority of those who where were fans of the first 2 seasons of the classic T&F series growing up also became Beatles fans as adults. Or at least those I’ve conversed with.
whenever i make my own stories and act them out with take-n-play, ringo is always the guy who is narrating in my head. p.s my favourite narrator is ringo or Michael Angelis
It's somewhat odd that the Early Years DVD set is Ringo's UK narration despite being a US release. I personally like the dialog changes in the US episodes. Like in Trouble In The Shed. After Gordon's "tender engines don't shunt" line, Sir Topham Hatt's reply differs. In the UK, he says "engines on my railway do as they are told". In the US, he says "no engine on my railway is too important for small jobs". While I grew up with George Carlin's re-narration of the first two seasons, I personally prefer Ringo's version.
A lot of the UK lines are hilarious when they’re out of context, except for the one in The Sad Story of Henry. Ringo Starr is basically saying it serves him right for whining about paint getting spoiled by water.
@@dgoodin24 I thought so. I only remember being able to watch reruns of it as it was off the air by the time I was born. I was real young, so wouldn't have recognized her back then.
i think Ringo referring to Thomas as Tommy might show a more personal connection potentially. my name is Thomas and thats what most people call me but my family call me Tommy as they see it as more personal. idk
I know its daft, but I'd love to have seen what the show would have been like with John, Paul or George narrating. Or hell, a version of Thomas the Tank with Pete Best!
Kids were getting a warm and friendly voice, plus the show must have been an easier sell with THE BEATLES' DRUMMER in the role. I'm in a seemingly small minority who actually thinks Michael Angelis was even better (UK version after Ringo, in case American readers are confused).
As an American, I loved both Ringo and George Carlin narrating Thomas and even Alec Baldwin in season 5. Who would thought a Beatle, a foul mouthed Comedian and a famous Hollywood actor, (at the time) would be the voices behind one of the greatest franchises of our childhood?
