Love that movie. Vera Ellen is one of my all-time favorite musicals stars, her dancing was incredible. I love her outfits in White Christmas, esp. the one you made and the one she got engaged in (Love that whole skirt/sweater combo w/the big red belt-- that is an outfit I plan to make one day!!!)

With my sewing machine I 'm starting a rolled hem by hand, fixing it with a few hand stitches, then' thread' it into the foot and off I go. I have to guide the fabric and especially slippery ones want to escape the rolling. Maybe this might work for you as well.
The University I went to has a set of stairs that goes up from the street to the campus level. It has a turn and a landing very similar to the place you started your reveal. It used to have, (and may still have), a sculpture on the landing called iirc The Dancer. She is making a twirl wearing a swishy skirt something like yours. You reminded me strongly of her, and I wondered for a moment if you were right there. But no, its not the same city. Anyway, you looked wonderful in that dress.
