I did what you said and the color didn't come off it looks shine. But you don't think maybe they could use water base stain and top oil base sealer or lacquer on top?

Hi Katy F,
Stain and Poly-in-One is a modern product. Traditionally, stain was applied coat-by-coat and after you got the color just the way you like, polyurethane or shellac was added to create a clear, durable finish.
Traditional is still the mainstay.
And with the more moderate combination product, you will always use a minimum of two coats … each adding a deeper, richer layer of color until you reach your preferred color.
Allow each coat to fully dry and then take time to buff sand with 220-grit before applying the next coat.
I used two coats to get a consistent color. The first coat commonly looks a tiny bit thin.
Finally, unlike traditional stain only products which are wiped off, Stain and Poly-in-One is never wiped because it contains the poly. Wiping this product will create streaks.
