Thanks - I got a little annoyed with their analyzing the story and comparing it to other games, especially as non-fans ("I'm a big fan of the series, last one I played was KH2 and I skipped over the handhelds" ....are you kidding me?). Very cool technical findings on the frame rate, I had definitely noticed about a 45 fps average on my base PS4 when I played. Cool to see the ideal hardware/circumstances to play it on.
Hey everyone - so we've had a bit of a nightmare recently with 4K uploads on TH-cam staying locked at 360p (!) before finally resolving days later to HD resolutions, forcing us to upload at 1080p to get stuff to you in a timely manner. It looks this upload is processing OK though - albeit at YT's usual slow speeds. Watch the vid now at 1080p60 or check back later, where hopefully the full 4K version will be available!
Hey DF, great video. Can you answer a question for me please? HDR is one of the best visual features of recent times and you no longer do HDR videos. I used to love seeing the games with this enabled on your videos. Are you going to bring this back anytime soon?
Have you guys tested the PS4 Pro in the Toy Box world at the final boss area? I ask because I was running PS4 Pro on default and when entering the area that the framerate felt like it dropped extremely low. Like maybe 20's😅
That's what I came here to say; thanks for having my back so I didn't have to do the work of making that comment. Although I'm making this comment now...
6:28 (for 30 sec) “feels like a game from an era long past” “mechanically dated” To me it feels amazing, I miss games that feel fun to play, and aren’t just open world for the sake of it...FFXV failed because it focused too much on open world, and nothing else...
And KH feels like a corridor button smasher since KH2. KH1 was the best One in terms of gameplay because it delivered at least some exploration and rpg aspects.
@@FelixS. If you prefer KH1 to KH2 because of the exploration that's perfectly understandable, as KH2 did dumb down this aspect a fair bit (where's KH3 expands on it, and blows KH1's exploration clean out of the water) but to call KH2 a "button masher" would be selling the game really short. Now, this is the case for vanilla KH2 (which was the version most of us grew up with, in all fairness) as none of the difficulties really went out of their way to challenge the player, making almost everything that wasn't the X button irrelevant. A Year later, however, KH2FM was released in Japan (which is the version you get on the HD collection) and added "Critical Mode". Critical Mode was pretty much a response to the game's criticism's of being "press X to win". Critical Mode was the new highest difficulty that rebalanced the whole game to make all the mechanics matter, and rewarding of skillful and tactical play. When played on Critical Mode, KH2 reveals itself to have one of the best combat systems of any ARPG ever made. I know plenty of people who can't go back to KH1 because KH2 destroys it in that particular gameplay pillar.
thesoultheory sold copies is just one aspect of a games success. Be real ffXV on release was failed/broken in many ways, such as story and combat. Hell even transportation was quite broken as the car is essentially on rails until you unlock the off road version of the car (via dlc).
Thanx for the tip for ps4 pro 1080p 60fps. I was so turn off by the inconsistant bad frame on ps4 pro that it was hurting my eyes with the jerky screen. Will try this today
Vaegir808 yeah it suck cause the frame pacing is so bad that is really unplayable to me aleast since i can notice it on the spot. Squareenix need to get this straight cause the same problem was eith FFV and probably we will have this problem with FFVII remake.
Thanks for the tip guys, I prefer performance than resolution actually, I didn't know you could play at 60FPS if you disable the super-sampling mode, thanks again
11:21 is where frame rate test starts. Best console is the Playstation 4 Pro at 1080p. None of the consoles even give you a locked 60fps and the only consoles that gets closest is Pro and X. Xbox One is third and Playstation 4 is last. That sounds weird but that’s the case. Frame pacing is terrible in this game.
Di Almighty Spartan God Do Xbox x have a 1080p mode ? If it don't have a 1080p mode then you cant say "best console is the PS4 pro at 1080p" The PS4 pro didn't win anything if the Xbox x don't have that option yet
Carson Cool The PS4 pro is struggling to run it at 60fps at 1080p but the Xbox one x is doing fine getting to 60fps at 1440p that's good enough lol If it gets a 1080p mode it will stick to that 60fps for a fact
I've only not played 358/2 Days, Chain of Memories, and Coded/Re: Coded. Honestly only started the series bc I thought they were another game I remembered from my childhood. Wasn't disappointed tho, as I found a new favorite.
I think for the base consoles they should just cap them at 30fps (with correct frame pacing), and push the resolution as high as they can for them. So 1080p for PS4 maybe 900p for Xbox One. For the premium consoles I think they should offer two modes. A 60fps mode where they drop the resolution as low as they need to achieve a locked or near locked 60fps. Then have a high resolution mode where they cap the frame rate at 30fps (with correct frame pacing) and push the resolution as high as they can go. So maybe 2880x1620 for PS4 Pro and 1800p for Xbox One X. But what do I know, I'm not a game developer.
Sacrificing FPS for an action title is a BIG NO-NO, even for the base consoles. I'm actually happy with the Default Mode with my base PS4. Still jerky, yes. But it feels responsive and fast. Great fit for a game as speedy as KH3.
@@BalsticMaker12 I still remember the days when the DmC reboot was 30 FPS, while the game before it was 60 on the exact same console. Those were dark days.
@@Peasham you can't get a clean 60, that's the issue. the render targets for this game are awful. they should have toned down the lipstick in order to make ALL systems hit 60, but that seems to be beyond what japanese studios can do. all they ever manage is to change the resolution and nothing else. i bet a competent studio could "lower some settings" on the base systems and have this game run 1080p on the ps4 and 900p on the base xbox with better performance while looking almost the same. but no, all that changes between systems is resolution and nothing else.
@@GraveUypo Damn right. I've actually been advocating for PC-style settings on consoles since I got my PS4. At this point, they've literally no reason not to do so, outside of the slight effort they'd have to go trough to code those options in..
@@HuGeeks I'm afraid I don't have the required hardware to make a worthwhile video. I can only use my Xbox gamedvr or shoot a video with my phone which won't do you any good.
Azure X I’d definitely play this a lot on switch if they made it happen. I’m pretty far into the PS4 version but having to grind for items and levels would be so much better on the go
Y’know what’s weird? On KH3 related videos I commented that a Switch version is possible, and people said it wasn’t, but here I said the opposite and therefore the replies are saying the opposite as well... weird.
The 1080p/supersampling trick also works with Anthem for anyone interested. The game actually runs in the 40-60fps range using this method. Hopefully the X can get an unlocked framerate 1080p patch for Anthem as well as it would probably be in the 50-60fps range, if not 55-60fps range.
Good to know it's 1440p on 1X. I suspected it might be, and not true 4K. Still, the game looks incredible, despite its rough edges. A beautiful experience on 1X for sure.
I was genuinely surprised to see that this game is running 1440p natively on Xbox One X, as the game looks much sharper on my LG 4K HDR tv. It must have more to do with the art direction and level of anti-aliasing being employed. It truly is a gorgeous game!
For the enhanced consoles: •Best resolution Xbox One X •Best performance PS4 Pro when played at 1080p For the launch consoles: •Best resolution PS4 •Best performance Xbox One/S Graphics are nearly identical across the board with The Xbox One X having the best visuals by a hair even compared to the worst on tap in the original Xbox One units. 1440p is by the numbers an improvement over 1290-ish-p but I'm not sure you're really going to notice unfortunately framepacing is terrible across the board leaving the Pro in 1080p with the smoothest performance. I guess this isn't coming to PC within the foreseeable future so if you have a Pro just remember to play at 1080p. If you own an X the game will just run poorly unless you have a FreeSync display that is compatible with Xbox and if you have a One or S the game will run better than on a base model PS4 but will look noticably more blurred due to how texture filtering is deployed in most game engines. Basically if you bought Kingdom Hearts 3... You lose.
when seen how the base ps4 managed to run God of War, Uncharted 4, Marvel Spider-Man, Final Fantasy VX, the Witcher 3, Horizon Zero Dawn, GT Sport, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Ni no Kuni 2 etc. at native 1080p is kinda head scratching that it's running Kingdom Hearts 3 at 900p yet with the worst performance of the other 3 consoles.
@@aquaglow1 ni no kuni 2 and GT Sport run at 1080p and 60FPS even on the base ps4. heck even the new RE2 Remake managed to hit 60 and 50FPS way too many times than KH3 still on the base model of ps4. I say this game is actually poorly optimized not just on the base ps4 but on all platforms, despite been completely finished but it's still sound like Square Enix actually rushed it to the market to be done with it fully so they can have a little breather for other projects.
Anas Bakhit GT sport is a racing game, nit demanding. And Ni no Kuni 2 is a fucking anime styled game with slow gameplay. Do you seriously think that's demanding?
Tip for Pro owners with 4K TV: - Start the game with resolution set to 1080P. - Change back to 2160P (4K) once game starts. The game is still rendering at 1080P, so the performance boost is still there. BY switching back to 2160P after game starts, the PS4 does the upscaling rather than the TV. Having the PS4 upscale over the TV results in a much clearer picture.
Disable upscaling on TV, instead use 4 pixel 1080p. This means the TV behave like FullHD TV natively instead of upscaling. Combining 4 pixels into one native 1080p pixel.
Damn, it's a bit of a shame to have found out about this 1080p FPS boost after already being 14h in. Thanks for this information! At least it wasn't a complete loss as the resolution boost is noticeable, but I'm definitely sticking to 1080p from now on.
If by some miracle Square sees this and listens, I hope with all my heart and soul that they completely and utterly disregard the motion blur comments. I can barely play Spyro Reignited for 15 minutes without my eyes starting to water. I don't want Kingdom Hearts to suffer the same fate.
I'm glad I watched this. Now I know that I can get a pretty good 60fps most of the time by just having my Pro on 1080p mode. Honestly, I think with most or all games there should be a 1080p 60fps mode, at least on the Pro and X consoles. Give people a choice between higher resolutions or better fps.
@@WePlayGamesx on PS4PRO I play their exclusive and let me tell you that most of the games with Enhanced and HDR look very good including PSVR which is an unforgettable experience. Does anything change if you change your display settings to 720p on the base PS4? Or does the game run it at 900p anyway and up/downscale it based on the display?
TruthHurts Lmfao PS4 pro getting about 7 more frames in a forced 1080p mode than the Xbox one x which is actually running the game in a native 1440p resolution, How you feel that you bought a PS4 pro a supposedly "4k" console to play a game at 1080p 🤣🤣🤣
Phanikrishna 399€ for the best exclusives and for good performance 499€ for "exclusives" which run and play best on pc But hey at least you got 4.. oh never mind
Did I miss something? Are they ignoring the Xbox One S on their analysis series now? Or did they determine they were too similar to the base console to even try?
John's retrospective on the series is nearly exactly how I felt. AWFUL level design among other things I took serious issue with. But my god, every complaint I ever had, well most everything, is just not even a factor in KH3. Game is beast.
My opinion on this? Square Enix should have done 2 things. 1. Fix the frame pacing issues. 2. Have two game options. Higher graphics and higher performance. The graphics options would be as is. The performance mode would be a locked 60 fps with a dynamic resolution to make it happen. Give the player the option to choose which way they want to play the game.
I still bought this on the Xbox One X even though I own both the PlayStation 4 Pro and the X. You guys may allude to the Pro being the best place to play the game but I have to respectfully disagree. The X's framerate at 1440p while not entirely stable falls nearly into line with the Pro at 1080p, the Pro simply seems to have more consistent top end stability but that comes at too high of a cost in my opinion. 1080p? It's 2019 guys and these are $400 and $500 consoles, I own a 4K TV, I have for several years now. The X's framerate is within like 2.5% of the Pro's, that's tiny but its rendering resolution is 78% higher, that's a dramatic increase in constant image quality for a tiny sacrifice in occasional performance variation. I've played the game for three hours and only really noticed the framerate fluctuate about three times, that's about 5-8 seconds out of 10,800 seconds of gameplay. If you have a 1080p TV I would say go with the Pro version but if you own a 4K TV and an X or both I can't for the life of me recommend the game on the Pro, that's too much of a hit to visual fidelity. The ironic thing about this is I didn't see the same sentiment from Digital Foundry surrounding Resident Evil 2, very washy logic here. They seemed to make it a case that the Pro and X were somehow on equal footing yet the Pro has performance drops during gameplay while on the X it's stable. Yeah I know the X has a softer image due to the AA implementation but is that not the case here in the opposite direction? The Pro having a softer image but it performs better much like the X having a softer image in RE2 yet it performing better? There's a lot of logical incohesion in your opinions that seem to sway to certain preferential directions rather than functioning on logicality. The funny thing here is for RE2 the rendering resolution was identical, in this game it's a 78% difference yet the Pro somehow gets the nod. You guys need to reel in the bias a bit, you may put on a front of objectivity but preferential bias seems to creep in.
I can't agree with you more the X doesn't get much love from the Japanese developers or DF that ludacris to say the best experience is on my Pro at 1080p is simply false the X is the best experience for sure.
The last game is Dream drop distance and it's been 6 years. And they have to make compilation too, to keep fans awake. And the worst decision of all must be the switch from luminous engine to unreal engine at mid project and we see now the consequences. It's playable but technically a shame.
I'm aware of this YT glitch where 4K content is not working and we only have the option to view at 360p. It looks like the issue is resolved since now I can choose up to 2160p. Anyway, I have a PS4 Pro with a Samsung 860 EVO 2 TB SSD so that's what I'll be using. I honestly don't care too much about resolution since PS4 games in general look good. As long as we have a locked fps (ideally locked 60 fps), I'm fine with even 1080p. With games like this, fps is more important than resolution or graphical fidelity. It'd be nice if they could patch the game to further optimize it so that we can do locked 60 fps with 1440p. I suppose like Final Fantasy XV they could fix this?
So the X runs at a higher resolution than Pro and better frame rate. You can get the Pro close to locked 60 by dropping to 1080P, but taking a huge resolution hit. Seems they should just add a 1080/60 option in the settings. So it should basically be: Performance Mode: 1080P/ 60fps Graphics Mode: 4K/30fps (with frame pacing fix implemented) Blended Mode: 1440P X, 1296 Pro / targeting 60fps but with drops.
Not too much of hit on the resolution considering you are only dropping from 1296p to start with. Its not a 'hit' like dropping from 1800p+ would be. All this shows is that we are in need of next gen consoles sooner rather than later. The base XB1 is struggling to run games at 720/60, the PS4 too is struggling but not as much and neither the X or Pro, both of which are limited by the older, weaker consoles (its not like they can release games for X or Pro only) are able to give us 1440/60 locked - let alone 4k.
I don't get why they didn't implement dynamic resolution, it would be the best option for the best results in the here and now, while future proofing the game to a degree. It worked great on FFXV. If I could pick 2 options to have they would be. - Balanced: Dynamic Resolution + 60fps target - HIgh Res Mode: Highest possible resolution + 30fps lock with proper frame pacing
It's not really that big of a resolution hit tbh. It's pretty negligible especially with the post-processing and it's still better looking that the PS4.
@@BAMozzy69 Depends on how you look at it. A drop from 1296p to 1080p is 216p, while a drop from 1080p to 900p is only 180p, yet for the first few years of this generation we had to hear that latter difference was *HUUUUGEEE* and that's why the Xbox One sucked compared to PS4. I didn't have a dog in the fight, but it was amusing to read all the people's comments claiming how ugly the Xbox One versions of games looked because the drop off from 1080p to 900p was soooo noticeable.
The PC version is coming March 30th. So we can expect 4k60 but will there be texture updates, shading updates and object motion blur during gameplay ???? We’ll see
@Digital Foundry On Xbox One X. Under Advanced video settings / Display. Changing the TV connection from Auto Detect to HDMI and set Resolution to 1080p actually turn off Super-sampling according to the information listed under "4K TV details". Is this inaccurate?
So, does this "1080p" mode on PS4 Pro work on every game performance wise? For example if a game have performance issues on "4k" mode, can this 1080p mode fix it? Because I only have a 1080p TV and not planning to buy a 4k one, but I am considering a Pro.
Am ok that PS4 was 900p and 48 fps is AVG But am not ok if PS4 PRO is 1296p and 44fps AVG Enabling 1080p from PS4 PRO Options is nice, but they should include 1080p in the game itself (not over PS4 Options) I'll pass ATM, I'll pick it up after they patch this technical issues (Base PS4 have higher fps than Pro, what a joke from Square)
So if ps4pro does 60 fps great at 1080p. Is it the same automatically if you change the xbox one x resolution to 1080p aswell? Didnt quite understand that part. Thanks in advance 😊
Yet another Unreal 4 engine game that runs at 900p on PS4 and yet looks NOWHERE close to the console's visual juggernauts that all easily run at native resolutions and locked framerates. It is not looking good for Days Gone and standard PS4 owners.
Days Gone MIGHT surprise you. Its worth considering Fortnite and Gears of War 4 make great use of UE4. Fortnite being an open world 60 fps game, while Gears 4 is virtually locked at 1080p during the campaign with 60 fps MP modes. Sea of Theives also deserves an honorable mention for having a polished presentation with an open world.
Western developers understand how to best utilize technology and work with a AAA budget. Japanese companies outside of Nintendo seem to require far more time to get inferior results for AAA games. And the only reason Nintendo is excluded is because they're always using tech from a generation behind, tech which everyone is already extremely familiar with & understands how to get the most out of it.
“PS4 Pro, 1080p, is the way to play the game. It’s just, flat out, the smoothest way to experience it.” I dont know if is a "good thing" but is nice :)
Nah, realistically speaking. They'll follow the dragon quest s port and downgrade background, enemies and npc models to save a ton on performance at 720p 30fps max
Can't wait for PS5 & Series X where the performance will be better because Square doesn't care to optimize their games whatsoever! As well as better loading times.
It's getting quite apparent that Japanese developers do not put the effort in Xbox One X games. This is the third game in a row that Xbox One X has minimal advantages compared to the PS4 Pro counting Ace Combat 7 and Resident Evil 2. There are countless games that run at 1296p on PS4 Pro that run much higher than 1440p on Xbox One X. There are even some games that run at 1080p on the Pro and 1800p on the X.
@@pulkitsharma4927 the small install base makes no sense for games that are popular outside if Japan. It's not like this is a small studio making an eroge title that no one heard of.
@@05DonnieB but still, the profit they are going to make off of a particular version of the game probably does have something to do with the development time given to that particular version and I am not talking exclusively about KH3, I am talking about Japan developed games in general.(Xbox one x ain't that hot there or any where else for that matter)
they don't put the effort in any version. look at those shitty frame rates and frame times. they just make the games, then go see performance when its done and all they do is lower the resolution to more or less get an "acceptable" frame rate on each system. i doubt they develop anything with a particular system in mind. it's always a stupid "one size fits all" approach, and we end up with all versions being shit, but some more than others (particularly base xbox, since for the system to use its full potential it needs to explore the ESRAM and i really, really doubt they are even touching it)
So is the resolution still the same when using Stable mode then? Weren't all the trailers 4K? I seem to recall your analysis of the E3 2018 trailers stating that the game was running at native 4K. So what happened? Were those taken from an as-yet-unconfirmed PC version? Love the game and it does look gorgeous but having been playing it since Saturday on PS4 Pro (20 hours so far!), the framerate really isn't great. Default mode is definitely better but can feel chuggy at times though it does seem to get less noticeable the longer you play. The supposedly Stable 30 fps mode is anything but due to extremely bad and very noticeable framepacing issues. Why is so many Japanese developers struggle to deliver correctly framepaced 30 fps console games? Unreal Engine 4 generally runs great on PC but it doesn't seem to be a great fit for the lacklustre CPUs of the current consoles going by the disappointing resolutions on not only the base systems (720p on the Xbox One! lol) but also on the Pro and X. P.S. Having played the Xbox One X version for 6 hours, I think it actually feels choppier than the PS4 Pro version in Default mode plus the Stable 30 fps mode is every bit as bad as the Pro's. Wonder if this has the same issue with using standby modes that other games have and that I should restart the console between sessions?
Perfectly Balanced Nope, the Pro cannot even output to 1440p, only Xbox has that option. The pro has to Downscale 1440p to 1080p or stretch it to a Pixilated mess at 4k.
Thanks for the input John Linneman. I agree with your summary of the first Kingdom Hearts, it's one of the worst and most poorly designed games I've ever played. However, I'm playing through Kingdom Hearts 2 right now and is one of the best games I've ever played. They simply got rid of almost everything that wasn't fun in the first game. This is coming from someone who never played them growing up.
KH at this point is nearly 17 years, considering how far we have came sense then, I'm not sure if it's can be judged fairly. It was okay for what it was back then.
I didn't play a game from 2002 expecting a modern experience. But the game feels more clunky, primitive and smaller in scale than Ocarina of Time(1998) or really almost any other Action/Adventure game of the time. So it's not like there wasn't a standard for third-person combat/platforming at the time.
jvalex18 it does improve the performance in many ways as well as the input lag, even games like call of duty Black out see benefits, plus Xbox have leave this open for developers to use it if they so decide to improve the refresh rate as better gaming monitors can, in my case my ultra hd tv has a 4K 60 hz output as well as a 1080p 120 hz are supported, thus thus reduce gaming latency no matter what it’s supported in game
What is the resolution on the one S. I notice you guys rarely ever do any comparisons on that model. You only compared the OG base Xbox one and one x. I'd like to know if the one S runs a bit better than the base model
Will you guys do an update when or if the frame pacing issues are solved? I have the base PS4 and don't want to play the game in the state it is right now.
I guess that there will be a PC release for the game since all of the previous footage shown upto this point was native 4k 60. God knows at this point but FF XV got one after quite some time.

I think Square might patch this issue for both consoles. I'm still getting KH3 for PS4 OG. This game has more hope than FF15. The Luminous engine is just not optimized well for anything personally. I do hope KH series will come to PC in the near future.

While I do agree with the majority of the technical analysis, one aspect I have to disagree with is that KH3's animations are a "step back from FFXV". While I will grant that the attacks don't flow as well into each other as in KH2, due to the floatiness of the spin-offs carrying over a bit, I personally find them to be far more pleasing than FFXV's animation. FFXV's animation felt very stiff and lacking impact. I've found this to be very common in games that overly rely on mocap and dynamics engines to do the animators jobs for them. Yeah, the mocap looks very nice and natural when you're just walking about in FFXV, but when you're in combat the animation's just don't feel very crisp, dynamic or full of life. This kind of technique works very well in more grounded games like RE2, while a game that's trying to go for an over the top combat system like FFXV really suffers. KH3 on the other hand definitely leans more towards traditional VG animation, and it works far better for this kind of game. KH3's animation just looks more dynamic, impactful, flowing, and full of life compared to FFXV's to me. Oh, and the sand Heartless in the Hercules world looks fine to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Otherwise decent analysis. Hopefully Square can better optimize their games in the future.
I find it more than troubling that you have to set PS4 Pro to 1080p to get good performance. Come on, 1080p was the standard on base PS4, not Pro! What do these Japanese developers do with Unreal Engine, seriously? Ace Combat 7 is the same. Thankfully I have an X for this but it's far from OK as well. Not game breaking, but it really shows how developers don't really care now (especially about base consoles) anymore.
@@TakuruIchigami not really, 1600x900 was the standard on base xbox and 1080p on ps4. and yes it's TOTALLY the dev's fault. doesn't matter how old the consoles are, the games are made for them. if you can't make it run properly on the hardware you're targeting, then you're the incompetent one in the equation.
Whaaat? Setting the console to 1080p makes it render at 1080p and improves framerate? I've been playing for four hours and didn't know that. I'll try that out when I get home. Thanks for the analysis!
Disliked the video, but that was because you had a lot of opinion on this one rather than just technical overview. When you start out by stating you don't play the games and then make references in regards to the old titles, it just makes it seem like you have no clue what you're talking about. There are a lot of things that you have to consider when analyzing a game like this that has a long history and certain things are going be represented in a way that makes it appeal to fans of the franchise as well as that Disney audience in this case. So I'm an obvious KH fan, and I felt like a lot of the critique was not the technical critique I expected.
chococta96 no, just giving a reason for my dislike. I’m sure they would welcome a reason for a dislike other than just someone disliking. I state clearly my bias so not butt hurt as much as i was looking for some technical info and instead had to hear uninformed and gameplay complaints about the game. I just want to know about performance. That’s what DF does and as a long time fan, that’s all I wanted. I liked their FF 15 vids and wanted that kind of info here.
jvalex18 it’s only a fact to those who haven’t played the series. The gameplay is unique in a lot of ways and there is nothing else on the market like it. Why don’t you hear about dated gameplay with all the Souls series or devil may cry which is from the same era? What does “dated gameplay “ even mean? And also, I wasn’t referring to the frame pacing and the frame rate. Sure there was technical points to the video. I just don’t like when people say things like “dated gameplay” or “I don’t like this shader”. That’s all opinion, not fact.
Square Enix wants to bring all their games to as many platforms as possible, they said last year. This is probably a similar situation to FFXV. First it's console releases and then PC.

All this goes to prove is that the 5yr old consoles - especially the XB1 - is struggling to run games at full HD and in desperate need of next gen hardware. Even the Pro/X, both of which are tied to the base consoles, are not delivering even 1440p at a locked 60fps. I don't understand why people are so desperate to hang on this generation, not wanting more powerful next gen hardware to run games at much better performance and visual quality. Even if the 'Pro/X' do sort out a 1080p locked 60fps mode, that's still incredibly poor for a 2160p console.... Personally, I want next gen hardware sooner rather than later to give me both the visual quality and the performance I expect in 2019 with a 4k HDR TV...
11:15 is when they actually start talking about performance.
Thanks
Hey everyone - so we've had a bit of a nightmare recently with 4K uploads on TH-cam staying locked at 360p (!) before finally resolving days later to HD resolutions, forcing us to upload at 1080p to get stuff to you in a timely manner. It looks this upload is processing OK though - albeit at YT's usual slow speeds. Watch the vid now at 1080p60 or check back later, where hopefully the full 4K version will be available!
Yeah this 360p Zone bites for those of us uploading 4K60 content.
I guess we are seeing youtube struggling to keep up with their infrastructure to handle 4K content encoding.

With all due respect, that's a horrible idea for an action title.
Give me 720p for all I care, so long as I get a clean 60.

Tip for Pro owners with 4K TV:
- Start the game with resolution set to 1080P.
- Change back to 2160P (4K) once game starts.
The game is still rendering at 1080P, so the performance boost is still there. BY switching back to 2160P after game starts, the PS4 does the upscaling rather than the TV. Having the PS4 upscale over the TV results in a much clearer picture.
?when you change the res in the system's options it quits all running apps usually.
Disable upscaling on TV, instead use 4 pixel 1080p. This means the TV behave like FullHD TV natively instead of upscaling. Combining 4 pixels into one native 1080p pixel.

Don't you guys do screenshot comparisons anymore on the Eurogamner site? Was a nice and accurate way to compare image quality.

@@_recipeh Nice to see people who understand they haven't been working on KH3 since KH2 came out.

So it should basically be:
Performance Mode: 1080P/ 60fps
Graphics Mode: 4K/30fps (with frame pacing fix implemented)
Blended Mode: 1440P X, 1296 Pro / targeting 60fps but with drops.
"Huge resolution hit". Lol.
I don't get why they didn't implement dynamic resolution, it would be the best option for the best results in the here and now, while future proofing the game to a degree. It worked great on FFXV. If I could pick 2 options to have they would be.
- Balanced: Dynamic Resolution + 60fps target
- HIgh Res Mode: Highest possible resolution + 30fps lock with proper frame pacing

Am ok that PS4 was 900p and 48 fps is AVG
But am not ok if PS4 PRO is 1296p and 44fps AVG
Enabling 1080p from PS4 PRO Options is nice, but they should include 1080p in the game itself (not over PS4 Options)
I'll pass ATM, I'll pick it up after they patch this technical issues (Base PS4 have higher fps than Pro, what a joke from Square)

Yet another Unreal 4 engine game that runs at 900p on PS4 and yet looks NOWHERE close to the console's visual juggernauts that all easily run at native resolutions and locked framerates. It is not looking good for Days Gone and standard PS4 owners.
just be glad you're not an xbox owner at 720p lol
What were people expecting when they brought the upgrade consoles to the market? That the base consoles would be the lead development platform?
andrewsqual it still runs fine though. I mean I know why people want the best possible but honestly the game feels very good even in a lower quality
It’s just, flat out, the smoothest way to experience it.”
I dont know if is a "good thing" but is nice :)
If xb1 is 720p, I can't imagine how much it will suck on the switch. Maybe 360p at 15fps?
Nah, realistically speaking. They'll follow the dragon quest s port and downgrade background, enemies and npc models to save a ton on performance at 720p 30fps max
@@skyriotAndKadeGaming they didn't simply downgrade DQXI for Switch they remade the whole game from the ground up
@@durkadur27 Actually the developers said nothing about the Switch version being built from the ground up, that is just a rumor that isn't confirmed.
Maybe because of the small install base?
@@pulkitsharma4927 the small install base makes no sense for games that are popular outside if Japan. It's not like this is a small studio making an eroge title that no one heard of.
@@05DonnieB but still, the profit they are going to make off of a particular version of the game probably does have something to do with the development time given to that particular version and I am not talking exclusively about KH3, I am talking about Japan developed games in general.(Xbox one x ain't that hot there or any where else for that matter)
they don't put the effort in any version. look at those shitty frame rates and frame times. they just make the games, then go see performance when its done and all they do is lower the resolution to more or less get an "acceptable" frame rate on each system. i doubt they develop anything with a particular system in mind. it's always a stupid "one size fits all" approach, and we end up with all versions being shit, but some more than others (particularly base xbox, since for the system to use its full potential it needs to explore the ESRAM and i really, really doubt they are even touching it)
RED DEAD WAS FULL 4K RIGHT
So is the resolution still the same when using Stable mode then?
I use a 32 inch Samsung CHG70, which is a 1440p freesync 2 monitor. Ideal for this game on the X.
Mondo really wish Playstation would do this. I would prob go buy a beast 1440p monitor.
Perfectly Balanced Nope, the Pro cannot even output to 1440p, only Xbox has that option.

Hey DF, if I'm running a Pro on a 4K TV, it doesn't give a supersampling option, so 1080p output would still get me the highest framerate right?
Thanks for the input John Linneman. I agree with your summary of the first Kingdom Hearts, it's one of the worst and most poorly designed games I've ever played. However, I'm playing through Kingdom Hearts 2 right now and is one of the best games I've ever played. They simply got rid of almost everything that wasn't fun in the first game. This is coming from someone who never played them growing up.
yes kh2 is leaps better than kh1
KH at this point is nearly 17 years, considering how far we have came sense then, I'm not sure if it's can be judged fairly. It was okay for what it was back then.
I didn't play a game from 2002 expecting a modern experience. But the game feels more clunky, primitive and smaller in scale than Ocarina of Time(1998) or really almost any other Action/Adventure game of the time. So it's not like there wasn't a standard for third-person combat/platforming at the time.
Played the first game before chain of memory was released, and I agree 100%. Kh2 improves everything the original did.
did they ever fix stable mode?
Did you try the X on 1080p and 120hz?? Definitely an almost locked 60 FPS, please do it and see it for yourselves
jvalex18 it does improve the performance in many ways as well as the input lag, even games like call of duty Black out see benefits, plus Xbox have leave this open for developers to use it if they so decide to improve the refresh rate as better gaming monitors can, in my case my ultra hd tv has a 4K 60 hz output as well as a 1080p 120 hz are supported, thus thus reduce gaming latency no matter what it’s supported in game
What is the resolution on the one S.
I notice you guys rarely ever do any comparisons on that model. You only compared the OG base Xbox one and one x. I'd like to know if the one S runs a bit better than the base model

I guess that there will be a PC release for the game since all of the previous footage shown upto this point was native 4k 60. God knows at this point but FF XV got one after quite some time.

the developers deserve a bit of toxicity imo. The performance across all versions is unacceptable. 1440p max res on the X? Frame pacing in all versions "STABLE" mode? This particular game isn't just poorly optimized. This game stands oit amongst poorly optimized games. Japanese devs continue to disappoint in this regard game after game.

Not that much of a surprise if you're trying to hit 60fps.
60fps gaming isn't cheap, even on PC for the new titles.
It's the optimization. RDR2 runs at native 4k in the X.
720p on the base Xbox hurts tho.
They will probably fix this with a patch
Otherwise decent analysis.

Butthurt much?

jvalex18 it’s only a fact to those who haven’t played the series.

What is the framerate on an Xbox One X using 1080p settings? I'm guessing a steady 60 also?
What is it with Japanese developers and having awful frame pacing in their games?
Or intermittent hitching like in Nier Automata? I think game development over there doesn't really focus enough on the polishing phase (that also seems to be prevalent in the West as well). Also they tend to cling to archaic technology and techniques as a lot of people in the industry over there have been around for a while, and as such are stuck in their ways.
