  • Recently, I was faced with an issue with my Car. The battery drained completely and I was almost stranded on the way, because the brake Lights stayed ON after I parked the car and went to work for about ten (10) hours.
    This video show how I fixed the issue, which was with the brake switch support.
    The brake switch should be properly installed in the right position to avoid brake/acceleration malfunction.
    Applicable to 2003-2007 Honda Accord (2004-2008 Acura TSL, TL)
    This Is hoping the information in this video will be helpful to someone out there in the World.

    Thanks! This video got me going in the right direction. Cheap replacement stop pad from local auto part store fixed it. 20 minute job. Took photo for future reference. Removed wire connector, loosen jamb nut, removed switch, installed stop pad, replaced switch, adjust for proper fit (remember how much thread exposed on switch before removing - see your photo), tightened jamb nut. Done.

    The problem is the nipple looking plastic part becomes brittle with the heat cycles over the years. Had this same problem with my wife's car (technically it's my car, but oh well). The nipple looking plastic part that presses the electric switch (the one that broke off in this video), broke off in my car as well. It was late at night, so the local parts store was closed. Had to "MacGyver" the thing to make it work for the wife's morning trip to work. What I essentially ended up doing to permanently fix the problem was to dig into my many glass pickle jars I keep in my garage shelves. I've collected (over many years) all sorts and size of nails, bolts, nuts, washers, screws, etc. I pulled out a 1 inch round head bolt that fit perfectly through the hole that houses the nipple looking thing that broke off. I used a couple of washers and a butterfly nut, and the problem is fixed. The bolt's round head now presses the switch on/off. A permanent solution that will last as long as the car lasts.

    Same issue, same trouble-shooting, nearly the same solution. What I've learned:
    [Plan A] This video shows the proper and correct repair. You replace the bushing on the switch itself. I don't know the cost of the part, but appears to take a lot of time and effort.
    [Plan B] Don't worry about the switch; just plug the hole in pedal itself. Plastic stopper costs $8 at any auto parts store. Ask for "brake petal bushing."
    [Plan C] Again, plug the hole, but with a spare bolt from your tool box. (Cheapest option)

    • @SonnyIbibo
      @SonnyIbibo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the feedback and contribution.
      Using a bolt is okay but the using the plastic reverts cost $0 too. 😁

    Fixed this a second time just a few moments ago. Around 10 years ago I used double sided tape and some cardboard, now that I park my car under direct sunlight, the doubled tape seem to shrink until the sensor disengaged again.

    • @SonnyIbibo
      @SonnyIbibo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      A stronger plastic material can serve a long while.
      Mine also happened when I the car under direct sunlight all day & burned the brake light at the rear windscreen.
      Honda should make that piece metallic.

      Hi Aubrey, I haven't worked on TCS switch before, my car is I4, but you will have to pry off the under-dash panel with a plastic prying tool, then gently remove the switch & replace it. There are usually three switches on that panel, e.g sunroof switch. Hope this gives you a clue. Thank you

    Very stupid design! The little plug on the brake lever sits in a hole and hits the plunger to tell the car that you are NOT stepping on the brake. Now the 2 cent plug on my car fell apart and now it's just a hole where it was and nothing is there to tell the car that I am NOT stepping on the brake. The consequence??? The brake lights will stay on until you fix it, pull the fuse, or the battery dies... If there were no hole, they wouldn't need the plug, if there were no plug, there wouldn't be anything to break off.
    The fix??? Take 2 minutes to go to the garage and find a bolt that fits in the hole. (I used one with a rounded head) Take 30 seconds to get down by the brake pedal and drop the bolt into the hole. The bolt head will stop it from falling through and gravity will keep it from falling out. The plunger will now hit the top of the bolt! You're done...

    • @SonnyIbibo
      @SonnyIbibo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great.
      In my case, before I noticed that the little plastic is off from the hole, the red brake light shield has burnt & melted. Now the scare remains there, ugly😎
