@@lordfarquaad7054 It's interesting the the pilots could hear they were destroying the lights but continued on anyway. If they're that tired they should not have flown at all.
The Turkish Airline pilot should have been made to undergo alcohol/drug tests upon landing in Turkey. There's no way he could not have known that his plane had taken off at the edge of the runway and damaged so many runway lights as well as to his aircraft. No normal pilot does that.
There are a few topics to add here; - After takeoff clearance, just before the actual takeoff, ATC told them the next frequency, and the Captain instructed the First Officer to input it into the RMP, which distracted both pilots. - They managed to take off, but before landing, they received an ECAM warning indicating that the nose landing gear tires were flat. - They declared a MAYDAY, which alerted IST ground. In the same time, OTP ground noticed that the lights are broken. - Following the incident, the pilots were fired.

Imagine driving down a road straddling the road edge marker line with two wheels in the dirt wondering why the road seemed so wide out to the other side.
Would they have known immediately that it was the Turkish Airlines plane that had caused the damage? We're not told how the damage was first noticed, but I assume it wasn't the tower, who would surely have said something if they had. Side on to a distant runway at night, would they have spotted it, even if they weren't absorbed in their screens? No, I'm much, much more concerned with the awareness of the pilots who steered off the centreline as they turned onto the runway, threw the engines into full thrust then bumped down the side of the runway hearing loud bangs as they accelerated to take off, but didn't raise any concern until they encountered a problem steering their nose gear in Istanbul. However, when did they first notice their mistake? Any pilot who makes a significant error that might affect the structural integrity of their aircraft is surely under a duty to acknowledge it as soon as possible, rather than wait until it becomes apparent to others. I hope they have both been suspended pending an investigation.
It’s the attitude of the pilots, the chain of mistakes starts because they try to rush for departure, situational awareness is like 0. One might can do an mistake but at least the other pilot is there to catch any mistake, but honestly im not surprised ….
very very weird flight crew, almost like the pilot & co-pilot are in a state of trance & oblivious to what's happening with the aircraft . . . A330-300 & all its iterations stem from the legendary A300-600R (A300B4-600R) wide body jet . . . and has proved to be quite a sturdy & decently reliable airframe so far . . .
The pilots, it seems, did not raise any concerns until they had difficulty sterring their plane in Istanbul. However, are we to believe they steered off the centre line as they turned onto the runway, then bumped and bounced down the side of the runway, accompanied by loud bangs, as they accelerated away to takeoff, without noticing thay anything was amiss? That seems quite unlikely. If a commercial pilot of a plane carrying hundreds of passenger makes a significant mistake that potentially affects the structural integrity of his aircraft, should he a) own up to it straightaway, out of concern for the safety of his paasengers, or b) wait until such time as it becomes apparent to some other responsible party, in the hope that he might get away with it? I'm not a pilot myself, but I feel that this question should not be difficult.

Pretty clownish, for sure, but the edge lights are largely sunken, much like those on the runway centre line. I don't know how an aircraft running over could actually destroy them!
