  • Footage of Jeet Kune Do expert Tommy Carruthers taken during the recent production of a computer game. The other male martial artist featured specialises in Capoeira. I have no info on what style of martial arts the female was trained in.

      Infighting is unwise on the street. I've met Tommy several times & trained at his seminars. You are misinforming people. Tommy has excellent infighting skills, ( pro level boxing, past Wing Chun training from Wong Shun Leung lineage, NCGF- Jesse Glover system, wrestling, Judo & military locks ).Tommy realizes having been a bouncer & seeing people stabbed, infighting is dangerous. On the street, you treat every hand strike as a knife attack, because it may be. I know a person who died of a knife strike to the throat, which he thought was a punch. Close range should be escaped from as quickly as possible, to avoid a knife attack that would be so close that you don't see it coming. From medium & long range your field of vision is greater. That is why Bruce moved away from close range Wing Chun & went with the explosive closing ability of fencing, it allows the rapid, much safer, in & out movement required for streetfighting, to end it quickly. This is the common sense thinking, that Tommy's IFO JKD is based upon. It is based purely on Bruce's late stage 1973 JKD for streetfighting, not earlier versions with basic trapping or later Dan Inosanto JKD Concept system which moved away from the efficiency Bruce stressed in his art. Just clarifying that, as I do train in Tommy's IFO JKD, I am not just throwing opinion out there.

If styles or method were in Jeet Kune Do, he would disregard all his teachings and tell his students "Jeet Kune Do is just a name." RIP Bruce Lee.

    Martial arts world is still growing. You just have to find out where. Not in your "traditional" schools but in MMA. The name says it all. Mixed Martial Arts.

    I see posters here talking shit about mma. But the very idea of JEET KUNE DO is to combine what is useful and get rid of what is garbage..... Thats what mma is. A combo of multiple martial arts. ( like jkd) I recomend adding grappling to any martial art and it becomes 100 times better. Imagine bruce lee as a proficient wrestler lol. He would be unstoppable.

    • @deridivisstar884
      @deridivisstar884 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah but a lot of those guys in mma still are black belts. Just because they cant do 5 finger death punches in the cage doesnt mean they dont know those kill techniques. I watch the sport a lot, and there is a karate black belt that landed a CRANE KICK! Inside the cage! Pretty sick. All im saying is if bruce lee was a grappling black belt he wouldnt have to worry about a monster taking him down and just mauling him. Plus he could use his grappling to avoid be taken down in the first place

    • @AdamOuissellat
      @AdamOuissellat 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Deridivis Star grappling only works when the opponent isn't going to kick you in the nuts, rake your eyes, bite your face off etc. I'm not saying grappling and jiu jitsu aren't useful to know, but you won't be able to use those arts on a skilled guy like bruce lee on the street.
      don't get me wrong, a blackbelt who competes in the ring is still going to fuck up 99% of the population. I'm just saying that if you don't care about the sport then you won't waste time with certain movements and you will go straight to the deadliest techniques, which is what carruthers does.

  • @Hyperuniverse1

    no actually, jun fan was just an undeveloped jeet kune do, Bruce ultimately understood and came to the conclusio that he didn't want to create a new style aka a new crystalization preventing selfgrowth. He said jeet kune do would be changing all the time. He even closed his Jun Fan schools for that very reason, crystalization jams growth and is one way of doing things only instead of using no way as way etc.

    @TheRiobezerko I understand the confusion and yes Ted was not certified to teach by Bruce....(Dan was not given permission to commercialize JKD either), but he did so...whatever. However, Ted is certified level 2 in Jeet Kune Do by Bruce. Dan is jeet kune do lvl 3. You can only attain this if you trained one on one with Bruce. There is a 2 page article written by Dan on the confusion in Inside Kung Fu.

    Bruce lees JKD is just a way of thinking, the combinations he did were meant for him, he wants everyone to find there own combinations by expressing themself 100perc honestly. He did a shitload for us, he could have done more if he lived longer, but he didnt so we should be stressin ourselves out to understand everything he really wanted us to learn. You can know alot about bruce lees art but if you dont try to understand it as much as u can then your not dedicated enough

    E' bravissimo, e forse raro.

He didn't think like that, it would've probably been then to focus better on the acting career or something like that. But he said HIMSELF, he closed them because it became "religion" all over again, labeled and crystalized thing. He knew there it was something that would be growing constantly, like man

    Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do, is far from what JKD is widely known as. His martial art was about ending fights quickly, and devastatingly. Tommy Caruthers is a great example of what Bruce, and James Lee were doing. Bruce was 135lbs..........that's bantamweight. He was extremely quick and powerful, WELL above his weight class.
    There are many who claim MMA fighters, such as in UFC, ect.. would beat Bruce. But if you watch their videos, speaking about Bruce Lee, they all, and readily admit that Bruce would win in a street fight. Which makes their assertion that he would lose in the MMA sport, invalid. How can someone claim Bruce was a "movie" martial artist, yet he would kick your ass in a street fight?........

    I see what you mean. If he sticks with what he's calling "JKD Concepts" then he should be fine. But I hear where you're coming from. I'd like to believe that Bruce's impact is so strong that DI couldn't really abandon it. People also don't acknowledge that DI was a student AND assistant instructor with Bruce.
    There's so much to say about this, but I hope that your fears don't become a reality. He's one of the few credible connections to Bruce's art that we have.

    that was never the issue here. It was claimed that Bruce hadn't "touched" filipino training nor had even thought about doing so. That is incorrect, Bruce did train kali, escrima etc. He became very good at it, as with most thing he did. Bruce knew alot of styles he would consider non effective in real life, but that was his thing, to try as much as possible, to become wellrounded etc. But to why Bruce closed his schools is because he thought it was becoming crystalized religion again, Linda said

    MMA is a sport where olympic trained athletes go and compete. Many of the fighters measure up with other pro athletes where training and nutrition is concerned. I have no doubt that Tommy Carruthers in the prime of his career as a amateur choreographer could not go 4 rounds with a guy blasting punches to his Solar E. Plexus; much less 12. Thats what many of these pro athletes could endure. You might not know this from just watching movies. Get out there and try the workouts mma fighters go through.

      Tommy Carruthers is teaching JKD (Scientific Streetfighting) with no limits on targets & no rules on the street...... Finish off danger FAST and DECISIVELY....MMA training would be impractical for this.....MMA training HAS NO DEFENSE AGAINST ANYTHING GOES STREETFIGHTING BECAUSE ITS FIGHTERS ARE MUSCLE MEMORY TRAINED TO REFLEX HIT SELECTIVE TARGETS WITHIN RULES......MMA HAS NO DEFENCE AGAINST WEAPONS, MULTIPLE OPPONENTS, PACK ATTACKS AND GOING TO THE GROUND TO FIGHT AS MMA'S DO IN THE RING IN THE STREET COULD GET YOU KILLED. KICKED TO DEATH.

      with all my respect, disagree. I was with tommy for 6 years and can tell you-JKD is not a sport. It saved my arse on the streets of Glasgow a few times against knives, hammers and fists...Welcome to Glasgow and check for yoursefs. My current instructor is even more to the street stuff...

      MMA fighters are well-conditioned hacks. Give a real martial artist the conditioning that MMA fighters have and they will defecate on the heads of any MMA fighter out there.

      Well said , haters are pretty often people that do nothing or very little or are simply jealous . I'm 53 and have practiced speed striking and Chi exercises , etc all my life and can confidently say i would like to meet Tommy , he knows his JKD and is extremely quick , respect to him , it takes lots of work and time to accomplish this. I do not think he has had the lime light he deserves.

    8:13 mr carruthers then don't say you know how to trap your jkd because there's no way you know.
    Poise sr carruthers depois não diga que saiba usar trapping no seu jkd porque sem dúvida nenhuma você não sabe.

    no.... it's basics for jeet kune do. It contains, stuff from boxing, wing chun, fencing footwork and others. Bruce wouldn't like if the wing chun techniques practice by jeet kune do practicioners would be too traditional and unrealistic. That would be something else

    @MrKnowledgeBank You are somewhat far from the truth. Bruce was about to be certified Ted, except he passed away. Dan knew this. It wasn't out of pure kindness. Ted is Bruce's protege and was taught the final version of JKD 1969 - 1973 which literally had ALMOST no Wing Chun in it. I'm not sure about Tommy and his boxing background but all of Ted's students will have more of a boxing feel to it due to the absents of Wing Chun.
