I have mad respect for him. I know from experience what he means by people's jealousy. Just not in martial arts. In a different field. I am a Concepts instructor but when it comes to what BRUCE DID! Lol! Tommy teaches THAT. His "fandom" serves people very well. Lol!
Trained with Tommy for a few years, incredible person to learn from. I benefited from his fanaticism :) I've still got what worked on ingrained in me. ❤️
Definitely one of, if not, the best Tommy Carruthers interview I've seen. I've learnt from this interview, which is always my intention, and I do believe Tommy is very underestimated.
Sorry for the late reply, Leigh... Glad to hear you enjoyed the interview... please check back every week as I'll be doing an Episode every Friday for the conceivable future
I really enjoyed this interview with Tommy or Coach as I like to call him. When he talks you have to listen because he is a man of few words but DEEP words! I had the priviledge of attending one of his seminars in 2018 and what was teaching was exactly how he says it here - SIMPLICITY. I am from a boxing background and the elements of Tommy's JKD or SCIENTIFIC STREET FIGHTING such as footwork, vibrations and closing the gap have helped my understanding of combat in the ring profoundly which is my own personal journey. After the 2 day seminar Tommy told us that the stuff we had learned would last us for 5 years but even by then it would evolved. A very humble man but at the same time you know that he does not suffer fools glady; Tommy will tell you the truth as he see it. Take it or leave it. I could go on and say more especially his footwork - sublime. I hope that I can work with him again in the future.
No doubt, Tommy is criticised by a bunch of JKD who are seriously out of shape, with a wall of certificates as big as their excuses for being out of shape.
I wanted to go to train with him 13years ago, but cant afford to go back and forth to train as i live in the blackcountry. Theres no clubs at all by me, one day i hope i can carry on this art.
Man, this was beautiful. GREAT interviewer and it's hard not to love Tommy. You gained a new subscriber. I only wish Tommy would try to minimize his accent some so I could understand him better, that was a real struggle for me and I feel like there's a lot here that I missed. Great Video.
I have been in Jeet Kune Do for over twelve years and have interviewed Leo Fong, James Demile, Richard Torress, Joaquin Marcelo, and so many more. I wish Tommy would have just carried the light on for Jesse Glover and NCGF and not tried to replace Ted Wong in some leadership program. So much hate and drama could have been avoided.
the Bruce Lee taught himself comments are misspoken. He had instructors (his brother that was a fencer also being one) he practiced, studied, and evolved. He was also incredibly creative and innovative coming from a family of artists. As for learning the basics first as in Wing Chun in order to evolve that's what Daniel Lee did (and the reason why I quit training with him) it's like going back to kindergarten unless you do it just for fun and there is nothing wrong with that.
at 38:00 speech about entering a room and check the atmospere... Lee and his pals were training this type of reaction (you have an anecdote by Roman Polanski)
Tommy is a fine man . Agreed on everything is been said . My question : if you ll attack when you're feeling the bad vibration how you ll defend yourself in court , what you ll say to the judge ?
