Before the pandemic, I had gone back to using a flip phone. As a PHONE it was better than my iPhone. It kind of sucked at texting. Unfortunately, I needed the features of a smartphone during the pandemic and had to go back to an iPhone. Sometimes I consider going back again to a flip phone, with privacy being one reason.

A smartphone is a tool you carry and use when needed, not something you have to wear constantly. The same logic applies to smart glasses-forcing users to wear them just to access basic functions seems unnecessary and inconvenient.
If they only replicate what a smartphone can do without significant benefits, people will likely stick to their phones. The inconvenience of wearing something on your face all the time is a major barrier unless the trade-off is really worth it.

They will indeed replace smartphones. You wanna know why? The pieces of the puzzle are all falling into place. For instance the AI agent models that you just talk to and are capable of doing autonomous tasks will be a convenience people won’t be able to reject for long. It’s only a matter of time.
Look on the bright side, we won’t be picking up our phones 164 times a day.

I'm not really interested in smart-glasses, which could be even more addictive than smartphones in that we'd have them right on our faces all the time (particularly if they are also your prescription glasses). But I would very much like to have glass frames that also housed my earphones. I currently use Shokz OpenFit Air headphones. I like them, but I don't want to wear them when I am not using them because that would be awkward looking. But since I wear prescription glasses, I could wear those all the time. It would be much more convenient when taking a phone call which I want to keep at least semi-private in that I would not have to pull out my Shokz and put them all first.

People still have trouble carrying their (portable radio) telephones. As a medical device yes, due to medical monitoring.
