Just a question, if you force higher prices on customers due to the tariffs wont they just find a cheaper non tariffed alternative? surely its bad for exporters as well?
UK's export to the US will suffer though. Depending on the amount, you will suffer the consequences, and most probably will stay that way during your lifetime as history has proven.
@ yes you are correct, in the long term it could force customers to find internal American alternatives. So it will absolutely affect some industries and exporters more than others. Typically though, if an American is importing a British product, the fact it’s from the U.K. is part of its appeal. So that can’t just replace it with a US alternative. Just depends on the product.
If you're an American struggling to live paycheck to paycheck, you must be absolutely terrified right now. Better stock up what you cna now before prices really start to skyrocket

Poland here. We won't be bullied into buying something more expensive and of worse quality-like any rational person wouldn't, period! The reason Europe doesn't buy American cars or food is that cars from the US are significantly inferior to ours, like for example German cars, and American food is pure poison! (no wonder Americans are so unhealthy). We have way better standards of food production here in Europe, and we will continue to support each other and buy from each other!! In my country alone, the quality of our vegetables is very high. They are not as full of chemicals as the majority of vegetables from the US. The same is true of our bread. Poland has always been an agricultural country, and we have some of the best grains in the world! What else? I buy excellent Norwegian salmon from the best producers, and yes, I pay more for it, so it's not exactly cheap. However, I can afford to purchase it from time to time, and I prefer it! Norwegian food is exceptional; they have very high standards. I trust Norwegian producers, and trust is everything in any business! It's the same when I buy delicious prosciutto from Italy-it's in my supermarket! No one offers such great quality as they do; Italian food products are also of the highest caliber! So no one will make me abandon my beloved European family and buy terrible American food that gives you cancer, especially not at a higher price! Especially not this insufferable cretin, Trump!

It's really not about quality, they are highly protectionist and apply not only tariff layers, but the VAT tax system which makes US goods cost uncompetitive. It's not a quality issue, that's the EXCUSE but not the REASON. You know why. Comparative advantage. It's because Europe is extremely protectionist. Look at the commentary "We don't want your stuff". We pay the same in gas for 1 litre that you do for 3.78L. Most of our cars do 30 to 40 mpg. We do mostly city driving whereas you do mostly freeway / highway driving. 3. @@barneymagee3285 Yeah but we don't. Also even if we did the option still remains do we want a more (US) fuel heavy car or a less one (European), whatever the fuel cost. Secondly European cars are built to suit the European tastes (size, finish, looks, etc) beyond just the fuel issue. Thirdly the European car manufactures have a deep infrastructure in Europe to present their cars (showrooms), after care car support etc already established whereas the US car companies have near zero in Europe. Finally people in all countries tend to buy their own countries vehicles for nationalistic reasons and other factors like heritage etc which they have grown up with. Also it's not like the country government of say Canada, the UK, Europe, Mexico etc puts in the car orders so they can say ok America send us 10,000 more Mustangs. The car orders are done by the individual consumer within those countries so the government has no say on that. Trump seems to miss that point amongst many points he seems unaware off.
There is a huge obvious reason why the UK and European 'Don't take' American manufactured cars and that's... Geography. There is no demand for a 6.0 litre V8 pick up truck because we dont need them. Isn't free trade capitalism supposed to be just that. If Europe is not buying enough from the USA they need to produce something it actually wants to buy or go bust.
It'll be interesting to see how negotiations unfold between the US and the UK! Trump seems pretty confident that they can strike a deal, but it always feels like a rollercoaster with these tariffs
There is no deal to make. The EU and UK will not buy from America. As American products are too expensive. The only way he can bring the trade deficit down is by stopping Americans from buying European things.
The UK is looking for a closer relationship with the EU. I have suggested that the EU seek closer ties with China. So the UK/the EU/China that's quite a powerful block.
If the US has been buying from the UK, that means the UK is giving them a relatively good price on whatever they are buying. So even if all imports from UK to US now get 25% tariff, the prices would probably still somewhat better then buying from elsewhere And since it will take years to (re)establish/renew production lines on US soils, US customers will continue to shoulder the extra tax for the years to come reminders me of the bicycle meme

There is American food in the EU but since it has to meet European standards it’s often made in it so it doesn’t count as trade. American companies still profit from selling it though, just like they profit from streaming subscriptions which aren’t counted as trade either. The worst thing the USA can do is make itself despised to the point Europeans avoid American brands.
Tariffs are his choice. If he imposes them on the UK, it will be purely political. The United States has a surplus with us in trade. We can't accept any American goods that don't meet our standards. Ultimately, ordinary Americans will pay the price for all of this.

It's really not about quality, they are highly protectionist and apply not only tariff layers, but the VAT tax system which makes US goods cost uncompetitive. @ I figured all of them would sell Pop Tarts. They're even on the Sainsburys website
WTF is he talking about?? the whole world buys Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Tesla, Coca-cola, Mcdonalds, Nike, Mars, Uber...
Bought - 100% tariff on Yank companies should sort that lot out.
Can we put a tariff on Trump and get some peace🤪
Time to restart the Empire!
🇨🇦 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 🇳🇿
Dependence on USA will end soon
USA....THE NEW USSR 😂
It's time for de-dollarization.
I guess Trump doesn't like the world laughing at him
The more significant irritant is not the tariffs it’s Trump’s insistence that he has common sense!
Tariffs are his choice. If he imposes them on the UK, it will be purely political. The United States has a surplus with us in trade. We can't accept any American goods that don't meet our standards. Ultimately, ordinary Americans will pay the price for all of this.
Everyone but Israel
Nailed it..!!👍
Trump going mad...his face clearly shows...
Trump is fine. You sound mad though 😂
Think he is literally just a puppet for globalists ironically. Talks about being anti globalist then sells the country out to globalists and foreign nationals
Wild to watch, glad I'm not american
@@Zdashable He looks worn out and distraught. Anger and frustration are showing. I wouldn’t want such an unstable person taking the lead. He can’t even control himself.
@Rosengewitter lol, you are so triggered by a strong American President. Shall I send you some tissues for your never-ending tears? 😢
