hi, We bought our daughter a 53 plate Clio 1.2 16v in black, slightly higher spec it has the sun roof ! and a/c . The ABS issue is probably one of the relluctor rings on the drive shaft, (available separately from the drive shaft), the scraping sound is more than likely one of the brake pads anti rattle mounting bits touching the disc, you get new ones with a set of pads . The boot floor damage with no cracks or split metal & corrosion and therefore is not an MOT fail. The oil issue - clean it up & check the rocker gasket they can split & leak down the side of the engine / gearbox, or cold be also just careless filling of oil. Rear exhaust mount is normally just the rubber bungee thing. Daughter still has her Clio, bought at 48K now on 125K after 13 years its taken her through Uni and beyond. Her sun roof doesn't leak and the a/c has only needed re gassing once. Rear bearings are cheap and an easy DIY job. Still no corrosion and just had a no advisory MOT a month ago. Cracking car.

The most likely reason it's not starting is the starter trigger wire will have corrosion inside the terminal. Starter motor is at the front of the engine, all the water and road dirt that makes it past the radiator causes it. Just unplug the small terminal and clean it, could be other things but i have seen this a few times.
If I'm going to be a guest on your show then my first car was a 1963 Triumph Herald 1200. Good luck in trying to buy one of those. Not for long. Think 8 paid around £10 for engine and gearbox in 76/77 from Grestys scrap yard
Used to have one of these, surprisingly large amount of room once the back seats down. Used to get two lads, two downhill mountain bikes, and a load of gear in the back. Think mine was £300 in 2010, needed some bits doing I sold it after a year for £700 all fixed up. People shit on them but I fixed everything myself and it was simple super cheap transport exactly what I needed at the time. Cant you barely pass it, use it for vid and pass it on to one of those one man bands that fix up and sell on cars?

I bought one those Clio's from new back in 2002. I had a similar problem with the key. Called the breakdown service out and the AA guy took the key and dropped it on the ground. Picked it up stuck it in the ignition and it started straight away. He said that Renault keys had a common problem with static affecting the key. Dropping it apparently knocked all the static off it.
Apart form the rear crash damage, the rest are of the issues are clio 2 specific. The front radiator being loose is common, the rubber mounts age and shrink; oily gearbox is common but not a real issue and it's not worth fixing, the rear oil leak is from the rear main seal. All these should be cheep to fix, well maybe not the last one which is a bit labour intense :))

As soon as you couldn't start the car, it brought back memories of my old 2001 Clio Dynamique. The immobiliser was a common issue. A little trick I did to start the car was turn the key and wait for all the dash lights to disappear, then switch off and switch on again and it worked. Sometimes needed a couple of attempts but it worked.
Looking forward for the next one!
get out more
Looked like a nice little motor. As you say it’s a reminder that not all collisions are recorded and it’s still worth physically checking the car over, even after an online check.
It needs to be scrapped. Basically a lemon, that has also got a crumbled rear end. The interior is good, but the car is not worth the spend.
if your saying this becaus its french please re educate your brain
@@ygtx44 where are you getting that from? Some sort of work nonsense. The car has had a rear end prang, with crumpled floor pan. Where is there anything about the French?
@@kevincockburn7805 then i apriciate your opinion well done sir! The car indeed is past fixable and you are right i just hate people that judge french cars just because they are french have a nice day
It makes a entertaining video but is idiotic. The guy needs a mechanic to assess.
I owned 3 clios. 1.2, 1.4 16V and 2.0 16V RS 182. No problems st all. Nice cars to have
Have a word with your mate Brewer see if he’ll buy it, he normally buys any old sh**e and he can get his free mechanic to fix it.
Scrap. Hit twice and a telephone directory or faults. Take the wheel trims back off for your next banger purchase and bale it.
What should you do?
Maybe not endorse 'Car Vertical' and their in-depth checks to give peace of mind before buying a used vehicle.
It didn't show up the 'bump in Bredbury' or the 'smash in Stockport' as per your words.
It obviously wasn’t recorded
My elderly neighbours had a .k1 Clis on a P reg. They sold it couple of years ago with 19000 miles on it. They are great little cars
Cheers Mat.
fix it ... even if sold at breakevan you make profit from TH-cam + advert for main business where if you say get work done you do ..
My first car, 1.2 16v dynamic in red 51 plate. Brand new because of the free insurance for 2y.
Miles better when replaced the hideous plates & fitted wheel trims! I'd be inclined to get a quote for the bare minimum for it to pass an mot. Then can re sell on or scrap it once filming with it has finished
I've had a MK1 Clio, a 54 plate 1.2 16v MK2 same as this one and a 53 plate dci one, brilliant little cars, great fun to chuck around and every one of them leaked through sunroof, abs is probably a snapped ring on driveshaft
Know the smell odour de cheap plastics
Tungsten tipped drill bit
My first car was a 02 plate black clio extreme. I never had any problems with it apart from some scrote thinking it would be funny to key the side. I took it on my first road trip up to Scotland. Always had a soft spot for Renaults since then.
Have you thought about investing in that scrap car collection company Matt? I think single handedly you are keeping them in business lately. 😂
That Mitsubishi isn’t an Outlander that you was going to bump start into,it’s an Eclipse Cross. Been driving one in the same colour for four months and was an upgrade from our 21 year old Honda CRV that your showroom pal bought off us. Was hoping to see the CRV on your channel as we really looked after it and came complete with tons of paperwork and service history.
I would mot it, sell it cheap to someone like me who would know what they are buying , as so far the car I bought my daughter to learn to drive in I had to scrap due to lies being told, and can't afford to risk more money on a cheap car, at least I could get her through her driving test and know it's a disposable car next MOT ,
The most likely reason it's not starting is the starter trigger wire will have corrosion inside the terminal. Starter motor is at the front of the engine, all the water and road dirt that makes it past the radiator causes it. Just unplug the small terminal and clean it, could be other things but i have seen this a few times.
I'd say open the box rather than take the cash
As soon as you said you were pleased about it not having a sunroof, it brought back memories. Mine leaked like a sieve
much prefer this slight change on the regular format on the buying car videos
If I'm going to be a guest on your show then my first car was a 1963 Triumph Herald 1200. Good luck in trying to buy one of those. Not for long. Training to get a marine engineer so started to transplant engines until I had a tuned up 6 cylinder 2 litre Vitesse engine in it. On drum brakes all round.
Honestly, huge cars inside for their size and still a really safe car to be in!
I'm still currently running a 2003 1.6 16v and I love it to bits. Goes well, still looks quite fresh and even enough room for a washing machine in the back with the seats down and boot closed.
Just used mine to collect around 10 2.4m planks for flooring, only about half a foot sticking out of the boot with the front passenger seat folded forward!
Learned to drive in my mum's brand new 1999 T reg 1.2RT in dark blue. Surprisingly nippy. She had a string of them in succession. Only one of which because I crashed one.
This is a beautiful automobile!
They still look surprisingly fresh!
Yes, Really amazing!
the clicking is the door check straps mounting bolts require tightening to stop the noise
Spend the money and get an MOT but accept some advisories. Even with those it's got to be worth £1500.
Wife's 53 1.4 Dynamic my 05 182 wife's 14 plate DS3 Dsport Thp & Daughters 08 207 GT hdi everyone had the door hinge clunk. Honestly think.its a mandatory Extra.
never been so early for an upload🤣
Race to be the first 👍 lol
Great video as always Matt, I've bought many cheap cars over the years, cheapest was a 1980 celica which cost me 60 quid 😂 ran it for a year and sold it for 350 quid haha. I've now just bought one of those quirky bmw cars with a drawer for your crisps, thanks to you mate 👍😀
Horrible sweatshirt ! Lose it.
I can't say scrap it because I won't scrap mine even though it's got a list like yours. But then again I did nearly thirteen years of driving in mine. I've put mine on SORN & I'm letting it have a well earned rest.
Why buy stuff for it before the mechanic sees it ???? You do this every video with a cheeky mini valet before knowing if its a lemon
Because he's got us lemons clicking on his videos..... That's like saying why does Clarkson go again next year (on Clarkson's farm), with a huge chance of making a loss or only just breaking even... oh. Come on, think about it. £££ TV revenue
cause he makes £500+ per video
@@Luckyjo21 And the rest.
The point is he's making vids to show us what to look out for and although he's making money we would'nt be, so, to go buy plates/trims before you had it serviced/MOT'd is not good advice.
I love how your videos all contain subtle Partridge references. I picked up on at least 2, and am sat here wondering whether "what a waste" is an intentional Parole Officer ref.
Matt i once challenged you to come with the title “I bought a ••••• for £100 , your getting there haha
That’s a good challenge
Do what I never did with my current 1.6 16v mk2... do a 20v VAG and six speed manual conversion on it keep it and track it with High Peak as your own sponsor! 😁
