A STUNNING RETIREMENT VILLAGE IN GHANA | LIVING IN GHANA

- Ghanaians are known for their friendly and hospitable nature, making it easier for expats to assimilate and feel at home. For this reason it’s not uncommon for people in the diaspora to consider Ghana as a place to retire and make home. However, are there retirement villages in Ghana? Retirement villages are specialised communities that offer various housing options and services for the elderly.
In this video I share with you Royal Olive Court, which is a purpose-built facility made to cater for adults and seniors over 60 who need residential retirement and assisted living care.
The facility is located at Afienya-Mataheko, a serene location in one of the well-planned suburbs within the Greater Accra region of Ghana.

My name is Jasmine and I have relocated from Sydney Australia to Ghana in west Africa as of the year 2020.
My parents are of Ghanaian descent and so am I although I was born in Australia. Here on my channel, my goal is to give you a real glimpse into what it’s like to live in Ghana and other parts of Africa, from the food, to the culture, to the lifestyle and everything in between. My goal is to satisfy your curiosity about Ghana and other African countries.
My prayer is that these videos do just that for several African’s in the diaspora.
Follow your bliss because life is short, follow your bliss because human life has no intrinsic value, follow your bliss because everything happens for the greater good and follow your bliss because it has all happened before.
This facility will do extremely well. Most people who can afford to locate to Ghana are retirement age however, they don’t have care. Also, single older people visiting Ghana who need care.
I think so too ❤️
Agreed ❤
This is brilliant and perhaps inevitable, but my preference is for us to continue to uphold the cultural norm of taking care of our elderly ourselves at home as much as possible. Wishing the residents and staff a great experience. Thanks, ladies.
With the cost of living and the need to have two income homes that way of life is not possible in the cities.
That is noble but many times people are not medically equipped to care for their geriatric family members, also it can be time consuming and rob an individual of valuable time.
That ship had sailed..we have abandoned that lifestyle and are competing in the other world so it is what it is ..good comment though
@@legion1630 Not really. The vast majority of our people still take care of their elderly at home. So, the ship may have sailed but with only a few passengers on board.
Wish the owners and clients ❤ More satisfying if the owners had their elderly families as clients. The proof of the pudding is in the ...
Beautiful facility. In the U.S., I’ve seen nursing homes that were just cruel, not really a caring environment. I wish them well and continue to care for the elders. Thank you for sharing. ❤
🤗
🤗
Wow.. very beautiful
i am a Kenyan living in the disapora, if i got to a point where i need such a facility i would gladly move here, i am so proud of my people, this is a clean, beautifully constructed and well run facility.
I need a job I have been CNA for 12 years in the nursing home and also PCT at the hospital for two years
Please I need a job
Gradually Gradually, Ghana will get there. Very positive. Bless you Jas. Great video
🙏🏾🙏🏾
This really touched a raw nerve for me, it is very painful. This is how our elders deserve to spend there diamond days. It can be kinder and more edifying for elders when circumstances around caring for elderly loved ones needs to be managed. Beautiful environment, lovely rooms even shared rooms have privacy. What an example to follow. Thank you Jasmine great find. Royal Olive Court excellent, keep it up. Congratulations Ghana 🙌 🇬🇭.
🥰
Me too, there can be a long period of recovery from a sickness and full time care. Parents are mobile and making decisions but still you want to keep them safe by putting in adaptations to the house.
"YOU ARE ALWAYS ELEGANT WITH INTERESTING CONTENT."
Thanks so much. x
Beautiful facility and a solid manager who knows her stuff.
Thank you so much Jasmine for sharing us all the beauty of Ghana.
My pleasure 😊
That's awesome Jasmine!! Thanks for sharing this video. I never knew they had retirement homes in Ghana now. May GOD bless you with much more success.
Thanks Richy 🙏🏾❤️
Another video to encourage me to visit Ghana some day❤❤❤❤ Good job Jasmine ❤🎉
Thanks so much 🤗

❤️
Excellent facility and interview as usual 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! X
I am impressed!!
Nice place and rates are great as well.wish the facility all the best of luck in business. Bless up.❤
epic; loving the entrepreneurial initiative.
Jasmine! I love your presentations into these SPECIAL spaces of humanity! Yeah!
Thanks Howard 💕
@@JasmineAmaa No! Thank You! Blessings!
I really congratulate the one behind this home. Its about time we have to think about our elders.❤
Rahina has done an amazing 👏 tour and manager 🙌. The facility is a beautiful place, well kept 😀 ❤ and neatly constructed.
I’ve always wondered if there was such thing as nursing or retirement homes in Ghana and I’m baffled to see one on your channel cause I never knew there are such homes in Ghana. Like she rightfully said in the video that woe unto u the child sending your elderly away to such homes cause a lot of them prefer living at home with their families and being taken care of by their children as they did for their children so I’m really surprised to see this and never knew nursing homes existed in Ghana Lol. So since she said this is something new and was just built 2 years ago, is this the only nursing/retirement home in Ghana or there’s others out there in the country that we don’t know of.
Wow! As a US RN im glad to see such facilities in Ghana. Great video
The second place I have seen in Accra so far, I'm definitely doing this on my lands with my background
This is absolutely awesome, amazing, great initiative and wonderful care and hospitality happening in Ghana. Thank you so very much Jasmine, you are such an amazing public service person who brings deserving awareness and experience for our collective goodness. God bless you in this great services to humanity, you are such a beautiful angel.
This facility is top-notch ❤🇬🇭
The day centre is a fantastic idea.
Having a place to go for activities and food is excellent. I would avise them to have an activities specialist on staff- train one of the nurses. It is so important to keep active. Standard weekly activity timetable people can look forward too.
More benches along the walkways as well, so people can sit and rest.
Brilliant concept and way of offering employment opportunities to Ghanaians as well! Beautiful conversation, the manager is so caring and passionate 💚
❤️
My sister Jasmine, once again another awesome video. Thanks for sharing 👍 🙏❤️🙏
So beautiful, the most important is how they can maintain it,keep it clean and keep it well
this is the type of biz i've been contemplating on bring down to GH for a minute now. Nursing homes are great resources for ppl in the diaspora to take care of their aging parents and grandparent.
Well done, my people. Almighty God bless you all. Keep it up ❤
AMA no no cool calm and collected but will get in her questions and you will give her answers. Great interview. Great answering skills from the manager. Kudos
🤗
What we are trying to run away from in abroad is coming to/already in Ghana?
We die finish 😢
Very well done maybe I can get a room who knows very well done. Hopefully, this facility will repeat itself throughout. Ghana, just like a franchise McDonald's etc.
God bless the owners of this. Our folks who have traveled should be encourage to come out of things like this. I only wish our people will be trust worthy and help owners to recoop their investment.
Put cameras on backyard/frontyards on hallways/living area n all common areas to monitor any abuses occurring please
Looks calm and professional. I hope this facility flourishes 🙏🏾
Woooow what an incredible investment.. great work, Just like Germany here. Great work
Great video Jasmine ❤
They seem very accommodating 🤍
Cute facility and capable manager🌸
This is a very nice Living Facility but is lacking safety hand railing doesn't fit the handi cap criteria it's very important to any developer you must have handi cap Facilitation some seniors doesn't have good Balance so the safety Rails are a must. Otherwise the Facility looks Miraculous.
This project is definitely called "Late Ghana " You need more in the 16 regions
Life of the Seniors 😊😊😊
I'm impressed with this. Hopefully we will have more of these
Beautiful facility. Hopefully, the aids will attend to the clients faithfully. Some Ghanaian nurses and workers don't have passions
Some are really stubborn, mean, disrespectful, and "" ahokyer3 foo) .
The owner should train them to be an example to Ghanaian nurses. Please be nice and gentle to the older people. So the God will bless you 🙏 ❤️
Standards are up indeed as they should be. Very well done . This is a proud project indeed!⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Very well done i must say ❤️
Great to know about these facilities ❤❤
❤️❤️
Love they brick work of the building. Who is the contractor❤
Its beautiful indeed. Not sure x
Family what about the size of the beds? Aren't they small?
I am in the US, n I am happy to see this in Ghana. I would like to visit the place anytime I come down to Ghana. Keep up the good work.
I want to know if they have apartment for seniors citizens in Ghana ,?
Please call or WhatsApp +233597090001
This is wonderful ! I want to know the price for independent senior .
Please call or WhatsApp +233597090001
Happy to see this!
Very nice facility but, I think it’s a little expensive for average Ghanaian citizens
It's for international grandmom and dads
I’m speechless. This is amazing ❤❤❤
Royal Olive Court a real estate beautiful place
Great space and concept however i see several safety hazards in the structure.. Too many columns in the dining area is dangerous for the visual impaired.. Also floor tiles is not safe and increases fall risk and injuries...
Our culture is different, we love to be with our children and grand children. It's they turn to take care of us.
Not everyone has Fam or friends!
ad3n aa culture...embrace change cuz da world is changing
This is for our international grand mothers and fathers not ghanaians .....😮😮
Good idea keep it up It will bring jobs as US .
Good job Jasmine
i need to retire here please send me information now this is wonderful in Ghana
I shared it in the video. Call or WhatsApp

Hi there Jasmine from San Diego California
I did not see a room with kitchen and refrigerator? Do they have a room like that for independence?
I don’t think kitchen will be advisable
I wonder if a couple who have been married for 60+ years want to be there in the village together. Are you able to accommodate?
Please call them, i am sure its possible x
Is there an elevator?
Why are we building nursing homes in Ghana? The elderly should be cared for by family, not bloodsucking strangers
Those without children and were wealthy find it difficult for people to care for them, if they did not care for anyone in their youthful days.
Nice place.
Pls don't knot the curtains. Curtains are not to be knotted.
Use a holder instead.
Well done.
Beautiful 😍
*super good*
I've been thinking how I can use my Masters in Aging on the continent.
brilliant
This is the move.
Who owns this beautiful edifice in Ghana?
Great great❤
The government is supposed to pay for this project.
Excellent
Nice facility.
Lovely.
This is fantabulous! No culture can take care of an 80 year old parent with Alzheimer's. Our elderly can have trained staff who can do that. Now if this parent have all their kids abroad and there's no relative to take care of their parent or grandparent, then what? This right here is a great option.
Nice place ❤
More of those nursing homes. My problem is affordability. Can the average Ghanaian afford it, or is it mainly for the ......
they shouldn't bring this culture here ooo... As africans we take care of our elderly... Sometimes people want to get rid of their parents by putting them in nursing homes... Thats sad
Beautiful place, nice concept, but their pricing is a bit steep 😬
What price will be reasonable?
I think 10%- 15% off the current payment categories should be reasonable. But again, I understand the challenges of running a business in GH. The intermittent power supply makes it even harder and expensive.
I will never send my parents to a care home.
I don’t think u have to
What’s the ownership of the facility?
Owned by a Ghanaian woman x
Nice. Can outsiders come and do thier internship there?
Ghana is rising 😅😅😅
Can I come and live there 😊
🎉🎉🎉🎉
This is the prototype its perfect. 🫶🏾 working with elders is so rewarding and fulfilling. The grounds and buildings are stunning.
Its so well done 💕
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Wow such a beautiful space, great conversation and it's good to have something like this in Ghana 🇬🇭 😊
It really is needed 💕
Those without children and were wealthy find it difficult for people to care for them, if they did not care for anyone in their youthful days.
Jasmine, well done, planning to visit Ghana next year. Go Ghana, great investment
This is so sad.
Let's keep our culture and traditions.
I am a nurse working in a nursing home. Even if the place is beautiful, nice staff there is nothind like home. The reality is that
people leaving there are deeply depressed and unhappy.
they are always sad cuz they do not understand why their family don't take care of them anymore .
Let's keep our african family values. We should stay at home with our eldery people and make them happy. They took care of us and it's our turn to take care of them
What about choices? Many people can't get their love one home help and some bad siblings who don't care
If you don't live or work there, you will never be able to understand the sadness of the elderly. They feel abandoned and rejected. They believe they have become useless to their families. 😢😢😢
With respect the reality of 'lets keep our cultural values' is the daughters of the family becomes the main caregiver.
It is a BIG thing to put on someone and Ghanaians are often too quick to suggest remedies they themselves would not cope with.
20+ years caring for an elderly family member, while raising your own young family and working full time? This is why women get crushed under the weight of responsibility. If the responsibility was _truly_ shared maybe it would be different. But the reality is that is rare.
Not all circumstances allow you to look after your love one. My dad was down with stroke and was staying with my mum, which was very challenging for my mother to look after him. We the siblings were in different towns working, which was far from home. I in particular was working as a nurse in the northern region and I didn’t get transfer to look after my father before he passed on. I remember how refreshing it was when I come home to give my dad a proper bath and manage him with my skills. I highly recommend such facilities because old and elderly sick people can be difficult to manage by unskilled and undedicated person, especially dementia patients.A family member can look after a loved one when sick but with the elderly their condition changes at anytime and non trained person wouldn’t be able to notice detorioration in health. Living in such homes will prolong their life and improve their quality of life at old age.
@@yeboahdorcass-qy6og. Well said. Our cultural norms are naturally fulling apart due to global changes as you mentioned. People in diaspora will appreciate such a facility. I like the idea that you do supported living, as well as opening up the space for the elders in the community to access. For most well to do parents, their big mansions can also becoming isolating. Way to go.
It doesn't make sense to send your parents to such a place . They take care of you when you were a child why can't you take care of them when they are old. Even if you don't have time for them you have to get someone to take care of them at your home without sending them outside.
This is beautiful and helpful
I wonder if they have a need for pharmacists as well in the medical team
Ghana doing great things 🇬🇭 ❤
One thing they are missing is a gym station for the elderly to exercise
Great idea, they are still building snd improving so this maybe on the cards. x
Nice idea. It's a new facility, and it's still under construction. I think management will take into consideration. Big ups to Rahina, Aunty Sharon, and Uncle Sam
Excellent. My mother enjoys seated yoga and pilates. I looked around our area and there was nothing available.
So I've brought a recumbent stationary bike. And she does seated yoga from TH-cam. But she misses going to classes. And her swim aerobics classes.
The facility is OK but where the bell is too high okay 👌 so you have to bring it down thanks
Yes I agree
Please you people should leave your systems in the West. Is a curse for any body to leave thier parent in such a facility in Africa. I do not encourage it at all. Don't blow the trumpet over this is not a good idea
At a point in our developmental history , we need to create such for those not only Ghanaian, but diasporan..
Ghana is slowly getting there❤
Indeed 🤗❤️
Some employees attitudes will collapse it. Poor customer service is our big problem
Absolutely 👍
I’m really happy for my country now
WOW 😮
We thank GOD that Ghana 🇬🇭 is slowly and gracefully getting there
Thank you AMA
God bless you 🙏
❤️❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I like what I see, will you allow elderly couple to share space together can you accommodate dementia couple?
Iam pretty sure since they tailor packages to suit individual needs. Just call or WhatsApp them on
+233 597090001
Beautiful facility, hope the workers are nice to the residents, in America they go to work to get money, but not give the care the elderly clients need. ❤ I will be booking a room once I get to the stage I need to be in a Nursing Home. So impressed with Ghana.
Thanks Jasmine - GREAT VIDEO😘
Aww Nana, thank u xx
