Conway Twitty started out in rock 'n' roll with "It's Only Make Believe" then we went to country and had a much better career. Conway Twitty passed away in 1993. RIP Conway. Check out Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn singing "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly". They did several duets.

"Hello Darlin'" was #1 on the charts for four weeks, and was named the #1 song for 1970. Conway, real name Harold Lloyd Jenkins, is in the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and was previously nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He's one of the biggest stars country music has ever had. It's generous of you to give him three strikes, lol.

He's a GOAT to me a grew up on his music, My Father was Inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame back in the late 80's, and when we we're kids, we're from the so we call it sitting around picking and grinning and my dad played a guitar and sang, and that's one he'd sang, and I swear he'd sound just like Conway, I'm 60yrs old now, thanks for the memories and your reaction, hope you have a blessed evening ❤️ 🙏

Conway Twitty was an American country music singer who also had success in the rock & roll, R&B & pop genres in the 50's-90's. He has won numerous awards for his music & performed with some of the biggest stars. He had a lot of big duet hits with Loretta Lynn ("After the Fire Is Gone", "Lead Me On", "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man", "As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone", "Feelins'", "I Still Believe In Waltzes", "I Can't Love You Enough"). One of his biggest solo hits was in 1958 with "It's Only Make Believe". Other songs he recorded were "Danny Boy", "Lonely Blue Boy", "Next In Line", "You've Never Been This Far Before", "Don't Take It Away", "I May Never Get To Heaven" & many more.

Conway is one of the GOAT. He is known as the best friend a song can have. He held the record for the most #1 songs in country music for decades until George Straight finally took the record. He has a very distinctive growl to his voice and is one of the best story tellers in music. He has always been and will always be one of my favorite artists. He was one of the nicest people I've met. I got to meet him twice at concerts. He sang my favorite song to me both times. The second time I saw him, he remembered me and my song...8 years later. He is greatly missed.

My dad called every woman in his life Darlin". It sounds sooo much like him in this song. We played this song at his funeral in 1995 and I STILL can't get through this entire song without bursting into tears.. From my perspective, it's as if he's talking/singing this from Heaven to me. The lyrics eerily fit to these circumstances and gives the song a whole different, very sad/nostalgic meaning. Regardless of how it affects me, I ADORE this song, always will...

He was before my time but DAMN his voice still makes me weak in the knees! My grandma LOVED him and I can remember us listening to him, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, and many others on her old record player. ❤️ These are still my best memories. I lost my grandma in 2010 to cancer suddenly. My grandpa let me have any of her vinyl I wanted because of all her grandkids, I was the one who listened the most to them with her.

In Country music, George Strait is the King, and Conway is the Crown Prince.
Conway's 40 #1 hits are second only to George's 60 in country music, and third in all music behind George and Madonna.
(And if he hadn't left us FAR too soon, he'd for sure be nipping even closer to the King's heels, if not outright passing him.)

Conway Twitty was known as, "the best friend a song ever had". He knew a hit when he heard it. He was a singer/songwriter. Conway sang to the Ladies. He sang what a Lady wanted to hear from her man. My favorite Conway song is"You've never been this far before". So many hits. The list is long. Plus he has songs with Loretta Lynn. They have many duets together. ALL ARE GOOD! But please don't call Conway a twit. He is a LEGEND in Country Music. If he hadn't died in the 90's, l know he'd still be having hits. Miss him & now Loretta Lynn has joined Conway & Patsy Cline in Heaven.

it surprised me when you mentioned sounding like Elvis, Conway's first hit was "It's only Make Believe" which was released in the late 1950's. Many people mistakenly credited it to Elvis. I don't think Conway purposefully tried to mimic Elvis, but maybe just emulate him because of the success that Elvis had.

There's a 10 year old video of his son singing this, and you can definitely hear and see the resemblance.
And there's a recent video on Country Rebel's channel of Conway's grandson and Loretta Lynn's granddaughter singing a cover of their hit song "Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man" and you can definitely hear the resemblance in them as well.. And I say this as a harsh criticism. It was weird and cool to hear, as someone who grew up listening to them and having no idea about their offspring.
There's also a video on that channel of Johnny Cash's grandson and Waylon Jennings' grandson covering their song called "Highway Man." That was weird and cool to listen to. I never knew about them, and it's oddly weird and cool to see the resemblance.

Conway started out in rock, I believe, and transitioned into country.. He kinda had a similar style/sound to Elvis in the old days. You can hear it in his song called "It's Only Make Believe," which is a great song. Highly recommend.
As well as his song called "That's My Job," which is a beautiful heartfelt song.

Conway Twitty's real name was Harold Jenkins. He picked his stage name by going to a map and he hit Conway, for Conway Arkansas and Twitty, from Twitty Texas. He was originally from Friar's Point Mississippi. Had so many number one songs but his signature song was It's Only Make Believe which was in the late fifty's and became a #1 seller in so many countries.
