    Great question! I typically check nutrients levels daily and chart it in Excel, but I'm nerdy like that. Typically, I will adjust pH once a week and add nutrients as needed...there are feeding schedules you can find online for most of the common plants you'd grow in a hydroponic system. Each plant is a bit different as far as what they want to really thrive, but I've found that being a little "hands off" and not measuring exactly works pretty well too!

    I always thought you were supposed to adjust the ph AFTER you have already added the nutrients. This is because nutrients are either acidic or alkaline and you’ll end up putting way to much ph adjusters in the solution possibly burning your plants..

    Hello,
    Good explanation, just like to add that according to GH, they do not advise adding the flora series then the meter without washing, example: I added micro flora, wash the meter, add the flora grow, wash the meter and finally the bloom flora, thereby preventing the lock nutrients.

    You should ALWAYS wear protective gloves (nitrile, silicone, rubber latex... etc.) and glasses when handling ph changing chemicals. We are talking acids and bases here. They can burn and blind in moments. Always think safety 1st.

    Hey Dave,
    No, they're not organic, but I am not a big believer in that terminology. I used no pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or anything of that nature which the organic name still allows. Plants uptake nutrients at the smallest level, so I actually feel this method is healthier than a typical organic grow!

    • @jensen139
      @jensen139 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      conor coleman this is actually a more advanced technique. He has already spent the time to figure out the amount needed to give him the pH he likes. So for instance the nutrient will bring pH down so adding the corrrect amount of pH up first will prevent magnesium and calcium binding with phosphate and dissipating into solution. Always CHECK your pH before use but it's best to add your correct amount of pH up or down first :)

      I second this. I find it easier to nute my water first then adjust pH. Most of the time my tap water has a pH of 8 and after adding all my nutes that drops to 6.5 anyway. Small adjustment to keep it at 6.

    Correct me if I'm wrong but when you check your ppm meter and it's already at 200 or 300 and I add 800 worth of nutrients you don't subtract the number of ppm's you had before the nutrients. Real good way to burn up plants. The ppm meter or tds meter is for reading total dissolved solids. Key word Total

    advice: never pour the water you're testing back into your resevoir, don't use your resevoir to rinse things, and if you're making a video about phing water don't show the vile over an orange bucket, it would've made sense to hold it over the white counter top to show the color indicating the ph. another note, don't mix GH nutes at full strength until your girls are about 18" or taller or you will end up burning them.

    The only thing I saw is that each nute wasnt mixed individually. There also wasnt enough time in between each additional nutrient. I was always taught to mix each nute, stir, wait a minute or 2, then add the next one to ensure each is dissolved properly. One more thing is that i found it a waste of pH solution to check it before AND after. The end result typically is what you want, so ive always waited until after my nutes were added to adjust the pH. this is simply to save pH solution though. helpful video for beginners for sure.

    • @sticktrik
      @sticktrik 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +curtflirt2 You are adding to much ph down into your water at one time!!
      If tap water is at 7.6, you
      should add 10 drops of ph down.
      Stir the water well and check the ph again!
      It should be in the 6.5 range at this point.
      Adjust accordingly by adding drops until
      you reach your desired reading!!

      Even 4 drops can be too much, best to do the absolute smallest amount possible, stir, wait 5m, test, and then adjust from there. Eventually you'll get the 'standard' amount of pH down you should add every time per unit of water :)

      Epic Gardening Yes...yes you did. Water should be as close to 7.0 as you can get it before you add nutrients. Once you add your micro, you STIR, then after you ass grow, you STIR AGAIN. Then you should let the solution sit for 90-120 minutes to allow any buffers in your nutrient solution to work their magic. Then you PH again to desired PH. Also, you should split the water in to two buckets, because the dosage you were following was for FINAL VOLUME... You ended up with 5 gallons plus the volume of nutrients and that garbage PH test kit you used.You should really do your homework before you attempt "tutorials". So far 53,000 people saw how to do it wrong and 90% of them will never even read the comments to know it. Great work...

      I find a certain amount of irony in that statement coming from you because I find it offensive when people post "instructional" or "tutorial" videos with not just mistakes, but wrong information because you don't actually know what you are attempting to teach others, and as such deliver misinformation to people who don't know any better making them believe your CRAP. You realize this makes most people harder to teach correct procedure to, right? Take this garb off youtube and make a video with some valid information in it then talk to me about being rude, Thanks

    Is that tap water in the bucket? any recommendations on where to find/buy RO Water? I heard Wallmart might sell it there's not one even close to me. Is there a Recipe on the back of the nutrients bottles on how to achieve the right mix for different size containers right? I will be using Mason jars for now, since I'm new and don't want to construct a big hydroponic garden yet at least until I have perfected my growth method. Great vid tho!

      I think you mean PPM, right? If your water is at 150PPM that's pretty good - my water here in San Diego comes in at 350 out of the hose. What you want to do is make sure that you're putting in the right amount of nutrients for what you're growing, and what phase it's in. I'd look on the back of the nutrient bottles and put in that amount, then measure the PPM after. Hope that helps!

    Can Ph Down give the buds a sour taste?

  • @BBTeZeT
    @BBTeZeT 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Two major mistakes:
    1. You should measure and adjust PH after adding fertilisers, not before, because ferts actually change PH of the water
    2. You mixed grow after micro, and then bloom without cleaning the measure.

    shake your nutrient bottles first vigorously before adding. stir the water after adding first nutrient, stir after adding second nutrient , stir after adding third nutrient. and adjust ph after nutrients are added not before adding nutrients, as adding nutrients changes ph of the water. better still go watch a proper tutorial.
