JBL Charge 3 Battery Replacement (do read description below for missing instructions)

- A step by step battery replacement guidance for #jblcharge3 speaker.
I’ve accidentally broke the tabs on one of the side cover along the way, which was meant for the locking marks of the cover i think. Luckily it still can be locked tightly right after.
Firmly & carefully twist the side cover anticlockwise to open. Watch out for the locking tabs so it won’t break.
Those yellowish straps are meant to cover the battery cables attached. So it won’t make any rattling noise/sound when it got into contact with the speaker walls.

Took me 5 minutes to remove the battery, 1 min to order a new one on Amazon, and 5 minutes to replace it. Thank you for the upload.

The tool to pry the skin off is worth it, the rest in the bag are totally worthless except to lift the tabs while you turn the end cap off.
I’m glad you keep it then. After almost a year now, the replacement battery still doin’ great 👍🏻

Fixed mine! It was clipping and not holding charge. New battery from Amazon and this video helped. The radiator was a pain to get off. Took around 20 minutes of twisting back and forward. I also did not break the two latches :) Thanks! P.S. Seems like you need to fix your ant problem..... ;)
Hi. About the new battery... I have a problem finding a new battery that lasts as long as the original battery. After a few weeks the new battery can only last something like 10-20 minutes. How is your new battery doing? Best regards, Peter
Thank you for the great video. I just did mine last night and there were a few differences in the Charge 3 in the vid and my Charge 3 (2016 model). Mine was advertised as "waterproof" and not sure if the red one was a different year model or what -- that could account for the different screws, tightness of the screws, and the waterproof gasket on my battery compartment.
01:43 The case on mine is not held by a screw. Both sides of the case are held by clips. You'll need a more robust tool than what is shown here -- like a plastic "chisel" you scrape automotive gaskets off with.
02:35 Screws!! OMG, the ones shown in the vid are silver. Mine were black, and they were EXTREMELY difficult to unscrew. Tight. Mine were all phillips screws. I was using a precision screwdriver kit. I ended up having to use pliers to twist the handle of the screwdriver to break loose the screws. One, I couldn't get out and it stripped so I had to break that tab off. ALL of the screws all the way down to the battery compartment will just as difficult to break loose. YMMV.
03:46 Shows three tabs. Mine had one. You have to pry it loose with something flat.
06:11 My battery case was clear and has a waterproof gasket under it.
06:54 My end piece had one screw that needed to come out. Then, there are two tabs -- take a small flathead screwdriver and wedge them beneath both of the tabs, then turn counter clockwise. It will come right off.
Details on differences given may helps others too. Good job 👍🏻

Great vid....worked for me! Although the screwdrivers that come with the battery are relatively useless. Thankfully, I have a very good Phillips with interchangeable heads. The smallest one worked much better...more positive fit on those small Philips headed screws.

I found a mixture of miniature flat head screw driver bits and a small amount of blue tack to hold said bits in place, enabled me to raise the tabs enough while I twisted the baffle anti clockwise and was able to remove it without snapping the tabs :-)

I have the same problems to change the passive radiator, what I used was a lot of flat screwdrivers, so i put 1 or 2 on each flat space aroud the radiator to separate the base of the radiator. I never twisted the radiator because it was really hard attached and i don't want to force anything.
Why change rhe radiator it got a hole ?

You just have to pay attention because it has two plastic latches to lift up, then just turn the radiator anti-clockwise

You cut the video on part you broke the tabs of the side cover... I think you can leave it to show the difficulty to remove the side cover and try to show, on other side, how to open correctly,

At 6:39 minutes, you can see a little clip that holds the side cover. At 6:55, when cover is removed, the clip is broken.
llanio Castro, thanks for mentioning moving the tab out the way. That side speaker cover was so freaking hard to move

Thank for sharing! How did you find out what year is your charge 3? I’m trying to buy it on Amazon it said there are two version 2015 and 2016.
Didn’t find it out to be exact. I estimated it.
from 2016 the red cables are on the left side before 2016 the are on te right side. better open your jbl first to see which one you need

I messed it up right from the get go because I didn't realize there were clips that need to slide out so i broke the grille right off. I wish you had shown that in the video. You skimmed that part pretty quickly.
I’ve broken 1 of the tab too & I should’ve let that part of the video in this clip as to remind others. But mine doesn’t matter much after it was resembled. It still hold it up tightly.

One question for those who own this speaker new and had to do this replacement , did you ever you the usb 5v charger port ? Just curious I only used it twice the whole life of the battery hehe should’ve charge more devices

I can't get the cover open to begin with, as in using the scalpel at the very beginning, yours seems to pop open, mine doesn't, any suggestions?
The tool provided kinda not hard enough to peel it off. I find it hard at first too. U can always try to use other home tools that suits the job if u may.

I ended up breaking up way more tabs to get it... I couldn’t figure out how tf you’re supposed to take it apart
The screws won’t budge!!! Ugh
What if a speaker vibrates a lot and sounds like it's broken? It will be battery change as at the base it comes out and stands out as a relief
The rattling sounds might coz of they’ve forgotten to wrap the battery cables with the tapes provided along with the replacement battery when changing it. Cz it (cables) touches the speaker while its vibrate. Common issue.
But if the sounds came off even before changing the battery, I suggest to open it up & check on the cables wrapping first.
Where goes the 4 sticky foam? I am guessing around the battery so you don’t hear it vibrating while music is playing..I’ve been fixing iphones for at least 7 years, never broke anything but i just Broke 3 out of 4 tabs 🥲
I’ve broken 1 of it too. Anyway, those sticky foams are meant to wrap the battery cables that so it won’t make rattling noises once the beat sounds goes on. It’ll happens once those cables get in contact with the base cover.
my screw driver doesnt work, can you advise what screw driver to use ?
Yup. The one provided with the pack kinda hard to hold. I happened to have my own set of tools that suits the job, though I’m not sure what its called 😂

I’ve tried by only connecting its cable before taken out the old battery & it worked. So i guess, yes it can.

70% of life span from the original battery.

Can anybody recommend a good battery? ... I bought a Durapro 6200mah battery, but in reality it has very short battery life. Have any of you found a battery of the same quality as the original? Or at least better than the lousy Durapro!
