I retired in the Philippines on 2022. The best decision I ever made. I worked and lived in the US for almost 43 years. Planning is the key. I have no mortgage (owned a condo), owned a car, no debts. My best advice, live within your means. Live simply but comfortably. Do not compete with the Joneses. Try to set limits with friends and family. I’m 66, lives with my dog and a non live in housekeeper. I travel everywhere 4-5x per year. Cruise 1-2x per year. Life is good!

I really like your channel. I retired from my Ph job nearly 3 yrs ago when i was 60 because of work stress. I prioritized my health over income. With minimal pension and with 2 children all grown up and financially independent I know we would get by. Anxiety over money always creeps in but faith keeps us going. Blessed to be living a simple but happy life in the Philippines with family.

I am with you, Gi. By God’s grace, next year my husband and I are returning to the Philippines for good. We travel with us my 87 years old mother. For years we go back home to the Philippines with our kids, they were school age then. . I’m glad we visited the Philippines every year or two that we now get used to the lifestyle and climate difference in my country, which I left over 30 years ago. We do have same plan in 2 yrs my husband will retire at the age of 62 and i will be 60 then we already plan ahead and lay our cards and do some spread sheet on how much will it cost and all sort of stuff we already bought a house and lot on a gated community right across SM Angono in cash way back 2021 so like you guy's we have minimal credit on our cards and yes to earn some points and the like and the only thing we are paying right now is our house mortgage and car we need to relax and enjoy life as much us we can and enjoy with our Family back home ❤will just visit our kids here once in a while .thank you for the nice explanations on everything .God be with you always.
I’m retired but waiting for husband to retire in 2 years. I have a house and condos in the Philippines, so housing is not a problem. My primary house in Texas will be sold, but I will retain 1 rental property (which is 300 miles from where I live) because I’m lucky enough to get a wonderful property management company. Rent money is credited to my account and repairs are done by them. Maybe you can look at property management companies in your area. With housing cost almost negligible, our pensions are more than enough to give us a good lifestyle in the Philippines. Btw, only option in terms of location is Makati because I want to be near Makati Medical Center where sister is a doctor. At my age, excellent healthcare is a must. Mahirap is relative. If you have money here in PH, you can live comfortably. We never depend on overseas jobs but trust me, if you work and do business plus no vices like gambling, drugs, alcohol and debts, you will have a very comfortable life in PH.
You do your own editing? It's really good. It must take a lot of time. I've been researching going back myself. After living in the US since age 10, now I long to go back. I've taken 3 trips since 2022. Your videos are spot on and realistic. Very very helpful.

Retirement Planning should be equally accompanied by an open mind and willingness to make adjustments when you arrive in the Philippines. I am told the Philippines have "hubs" or subdivisions where they try to mimic living in the US where roads are wider and are not open to people coming in and out. I love to retire in Pinas , but I won't do for the reason that I get my prescriptions free , healthcare is free , here in Canada. I don't plan to get dual citizenship . Just to visit for three to four weeks , to see and bond with relatives is enough for me.

For me Philippines is good for vacation. Not retirement, I was born & raised there. I was 35 yrs. old when family moved abroad. In terms of quality living not thinking of currency value I prefer to retire where I'm now. There are more scenic views, wide roads, minimal traffic etc. The razzle & dazzle of crowds The heat is just not for me at 64. Although, there are some of us who feel loneliness & would prefer to be home or retire back home. I'm a city boy not from any province after experiencing life abroad. You would see a big difference, especially in technology.
Way to go! Vacationing in the Philippines right now from Canada. Geographical arbitrage can't feel more real than spending your hard earned dollars here in the Philippines. $20 one hour massages, $10 haircuts with shampoo at a high end salon, $8 lunches, ... etc. It is also true that you will need to contend with the traffic and the heat & humidity. If you have the money to spend, healthcare is not so bad here in my opinion. You just need to be financially prepared to shell out a huge amount of money if you do become critically ill or just get insurance as you delved into in one of your previous videos. If you are moving here to strictly retire, I won't worry too much about corruption. It may be more pertinent if you are planning to start a business. Level of poverty is hard to ignore for sure but it can also present opportunities for finding your new purpose in the next chapter of your lives. If you PLAN ahead, as both of you have, retiring here in the Philippines is going to be an absolute blast!

We build our house in the Philippines in 2000 planning to retire. I’m 84 yrs old and been living in the US for 51. We can afford and live comfortably with our social security. Now we sold our house in the Philippines and came back to the US. If you get sick Medicare doesn’t cover your medical expenses only if it’s emergency. But you still pay your deductible before the insurance reimbursement Healthcare not so good. Maybe will still take vacation but not to live especially as a senior citizen I will be more concerned about my health.
If you get sick in the Philippines (and you will be when you’re old and retired), your life will only be as long as your bank account. I’m a US nurse and this is my observation. In the US, EMTALA will extend your life.
Medicare is only in the US, doesn’t work overseas, you should have gotten health insurance in the Philippines, enrolled in Philhealth and do you know, you can cancel your Medicare. Bad move on your part if you ask me. Retirement homes will hasten your meet up with God, ask around, I’m talking from experiences

This is so insightful! im only in my 30s and grew up in Canada but this is something to consider in the future.

What a coincidence that I have discovered your vlog when I was thinking of retiring in the next two years. I have been working here in UK for the last 24 years and would like to retire soon to look after my mom who is 78 years old. We do have same plan in 2 yrs my husband will retire at the age of 62 and i will be 60 then we already plan ahead and lay our cards and do some spread sheet on how much will it cost and all sort of stuff we already bought a house and lot on a gated community right across SM Angono in cash way back 2021 so like you guy's we have minimal credit on our cards and yes to earn some points and the like and the only thing we are paying right now is our house mortgage and car we need to relax and enjoy life as much us we can and enjoy with our Family back home ❤will just visit our kids here once in a while .thank you for the nice explanations on everything .God be with you always.
I’m retired but waiting for husband to retire in 2 years. I have a house and condos in the Philippines, so housing is not a problem. My primary house in Texas will be sold, but I will retain 1 rental property (which is 300 miles from where I live) because I’m lucky enough to get a wonderful property management company. Rent money is credited to my account and repairs are done by them. Maybe you can look at property management companies in your area. With housing cost almost negligible, our pensions are more than enough to give us a good lifestyle in the Philippines. Btw, only option in terms of location is Makati because I want to be near Makati Medical Center where sister is a doctor. At my age, excellent healthcare is a must. Mahirap is relative. If you have money here in PH, you can live comfortably. We never depend on overseas jobs but trust me, if you work and do business plus no vices like gambling, drugs, alcohol and debts, you will have a very comfortable life in PH.
You do your own editing? It's really good. It must take a lot of time. I've been researching going back myself. After living in the US since age 10, now I long to go back. I've taken 3 trips since 2022. Your videos are spot on and realistic. Very very helpful.

Retirement Planning should be equally accompanied by an open mind and willingness to make adjustments when you arrive in the Philippines.
I am told the Philippines have "hubs" or subdivisions where they try to mimic living in the US where roads are wider and are not open to people coming in and out.

I love to retire in Pinas , but I won't do for the reason that I get my prescriptions free , healthcare is free , here in Canada. I don't plan to get dual citizenship . Just to visit for three to four weeks , to see and bond with relatives is enough for me.

We dont have kids yet but we are going 40ish, both in healthcare too. Nakakatuwa that someone like you think of these things too, kala ko overplanning lang kame. Kasi when i ask people around us, very different from us. So nako-confuse ako, but we want a life na relax na lang when we get old. Parehas tayo at some points like when you say *basta gumagalaw, we really try to walk more as our exercise, started ordering food na maghati nlng kame to satisfy our craving...

since your wells fargo is already linked to a Philippine bank, you don't need to connect vanguard to another Philippine bank. i'm sure you have vanguard linked to your wf account. may extra step lang nga before getting the money to your Philippine bank. do you have a plan for dealing with filing your US taxes? turbo tax online or something else?

For me Philippines is good for vacation. Not retirement, I was born & raised there. I was 35 yrs. old when family moved abroad. In terms of quality living not thinking of currency value I prefer to retire where I'm now. There are more scenic views, wide roads, minimal traffic etc. The razzle & dazzle of crowds
The heat is just not for me at 64. Although, there are some of us who feel loneliness & would prefer to be home or retire back home. I'm a city boy not from any province after experiencing life abroad. You would see a big difference, especially in technology.

Way to go! Vacationing in the Philippines right now from Canada. Geographical arbitrage can't feel more real than spending your hard earned dollars here in the Philippines. $20 one hour massages, $10 haircuts with shampoo at a high end salon, $8 lunches, ... etc. It is also true that you will need to contend with the traffic and the heat & humidity. If you have the money to spend, healthcare is not so bad here in my opinion. You just need to be financially prepared to shell out a huge amount of money if you do become critically ill or just get insurance as you delved into in one of your previous videos. If you are moving here to strictly retire, I won't worry too much about corruption. It may be more pertinent if you are planning to start a business. Level of poverty is hard to ignore for sure but it can also present opportunities for finding your new purpose in the next chapter of your lives.
If you PLAN ahead, as both of you have, retiring here in the Philippines is going to be an absolute blast!

We build our house in the Philippines in 2000 planning to retire. I’m 84 yrs old and been living in the US for 51. We can afford and live comfortably with our social security. Now we sold our house in the Philippines and came back to the US. If you get sick Medicare doesn’t cover your medical expenses only if it’s emergency. But you still pay your deductible before the insurance reimbursement Healthcare not so good. Maybe will still take vacation but not to live especially as a senior citizen I will be more concerned about my health.
If you get sick in the Philippines (and you will be when you’re old and retired), your life will only be as long as your bank account. I’m a US nurse and this is my observation. In the US, EMTALA will extend your life.

Medicare is only in the US, doesn’t work overseas, you should have gotten health insurance in the Philippines, enrolled in Philhealth and do you know, you can cancel your Medicare. Good luck using VPN, it slows down your internet drastically. Sa bagal ng internet sa pinas, tapos add VPN, hindi mo mapapanuod mga yan without buffer. Kahit ethernet cable pa gamitin, 4K resolution demands fast connection.
