Casual breakwall fishin! Have you used the free rig?

now I am no free rig master, but I have been using it for about a year. The baits I use are very specific dolive beaver 7in or 4in, bull gill, dolive sticks, bulls hog daddy, bull slide, jaco bee, sakamata shads, dolive gill, fat ika, Berkley power glider, crosstail shad and the BFE those are the baits I like I know a lot lol I like to work the rig with little tiny pops or slow dragging. You can also rig certain baits backwards and they will glide away from the weight. Keep on catching em pumped for the new Pod!

I've talked about it last year. I still do it & I use it a lot this time of year. Hook selection depends on what you are fishing and what you are using be a creature bait, drop shot, or worm. Creature is definitely EWG. Worm, well its up to your preference. If im using a drop shot bait without the rig. It's a finesse and I'll use a wacky worm hook due to being more stealthy. I can give a kid a free rig setup and turn them lose and watch them figure out what works for them. Others who have never had much of an interest, get a few fish then want to learn more. It's an endless way to fish for sure

Z man trick shotz with a size 2 mosquito hook and 3/16ths casting sinker will give you the floating up effect that you're looking for on slack line

Never used it but it’s an idea for all those teardrop weights I got sitting in my tackle box 😂.

Your jumbo TRD is going to want to float. I think that's a killer presentation 👏

Well I could see putting some bobber stops so it could be like a power drop shot

I just found this video, and I am just starting to use the free rig, and you are correct about the weight, but also I have been using the ZMAN Fattyz and a light wire Gamakatsu hook,so it allows for more buoyancy… I realize this video is a year old so I hope you do another one now that you should have more experience…Subbed, and following the channel and podcasts👍😜👍🍀🎣🍀

Thanks for the sub! We will definitely use this again this year! The zman gremlin looks like a great option for free rigs too!

Use a cylinder style weight instead of the casting style weight to hit less snags!

Thanks for the tips! Going to try with a Nikko hellgrammite! They float pretty good think more then Zman plastics.
What was your ML spinning rod? Thanks again!

I’ve been debating this with the Bouyant Elaztec baits. Using this with a Zman Goat in pads may be wicked!

The best thing about the free rig is that you can use it with any plastic

Appreciate this vid. I've tried the technique a few times, but it's been frustrating to me. I don't know what the bait is doing, & I don't know how much line is floating up. Any tips? Thx again for the vid.

    • @paulglass7268
      @paulglass7268 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Start by keeping a taught line to the weight and every cast let a little bit more line out by just lowering your rod tip. That way you know how much slack you have in the line

hows it do with braid line ? is this best to use on non braid line due to it sliding and likely be scraping the bottom, i know braid lines dont like to be scuffed up on rocks and things and breaks off easy

You should fish a wobble head more. It’s like a weedless squarebill.

If you feed it slack and let it fall on slack line that’s when it shines

put a bobber stop in front of the knot to protect it.

Dude. Your rig has a fundamental flaw: you need to put a BEAD in between the end of the hook and the weight. Otherwise, when you said the hook, it’s bye-bye fish. don’t use glass bead cause it will break at the time you set the hook.
