Wow. You definitely earned that extra recovery shake! I've peaked at 125km a week, but that was broken down into smaller runs, and I was monstrously fit at the time. I don't think there are many (amateur) runners who could do 7 days of HMs. Like you said, there isn't really anywhere to hide.
Love seeing different challenges like this. I did a half marathon each weekend last winter with no goal but to finish and it was a great way to spend a weekend morning. Will definitely look into doing something similar to this, this summer.

Might I suggest a small amendment: instead of making it fixed distance (1k a year), make it a percentage, like a 20% increase every year (after you run 20k, 25 really isn't that much more). I did the Qingdao virtual half marathon this year, and next year's goal is a 70.3, and a full Marathon in 2022 (roughly 40% increase year over year from 2020).
Great job, I'm full of admiration. I'm pleased with the 25k I've run this week. I could never do 6x that. (And I can keep 4.30 pace up for about 1/2 a km!)
I liked the video and your channel in general. I did 21 half marathons in 21 days and I felt the same as you after day 2 but afterwards every day got easier and my biggest lesson learnt was that i need to enjoy the process more than the result. I will do a video one day 😀
Congratulations. Just came across your videos. I did 2 half’s within a week and thought my legs were going to fall off. Very much appreciate your tips and suggestions.
Really well done Mark - especially the commentary. Very helpful to understand and I love the way you and the rest of the GTN team make these videos. Your comments are totally on point, simple to take in and practical. Thanks.

Yes, he is indeed. And, you have to check out Elijah Orr. He is a beast as well. He has a record of running 15 miles everyday and has a lot of 17 mile days as well
I just got those shoes!!! UPDATE! I been running everyday for a week it literally feels like I’m running a cloud! If your runner they will be very good to you!!! 6-8 miles a day 🙌🙌🙌
I'm jealous! Ran my first half a month ago, but have been making great gains, I should be hitting a half a month by the end of January (I'm doing a couple 15k/ month right now).
Thanks for documenting your challenge, Mark. Might have to take a week off work to do the same. I really love your old fridge and stove!! They are amazing!
I'm jealous of the ability to run a half marathon a day... currently getting back in shape and doing 5ks each day. Also jealous of that Hop House 13, it's a delicious beer, sadly not available in the states.
I was pleasantly surprised to see it available in the UK. Always a sense of pride in seeing Irish products that are exported around the world. For a small nation we punch so far above our weight. Good luck with your 5ks!!
Well done and congratulations! I will make it my goal to work up to this challenge! Also, great job weaving in the promotion of the plant based product. Smooth recovery!!
Recovery is the key part here. It's easy to injure/overstrain yourself with that massive leap of mileage. I gotta try out this one when I feel ready. Cheers !
Of course. We provide tons of advice on this on our channel. Lots of beginner running videos, in which we always advise no more than 10% increase. As disclosed, this was purely a personal and film challenge
I am currently doing Run Every Day January. I have done it before, it was mentally tough not physically tough - it didn't help that I was running 2-3 days a week with the top set with my local running club!
I'm doing right now something quite similar. I'm in the day 4 for running halfmarathons everyday. And I don't know how long it will last, I didn't define a goal. But I included some extra rules. I need to make each one in an average pace faster than 5 minutes /km. And I do it barefoot and wearing a mask all the time. Yes, barefoot. I ran almost exclusively wearing sandals for about 5 years and since october I started trying barefoot and and felling pretty well. In my personal experience I prefer to run in early morning with no previous meal. Also do not drink any water during the exercise. and no sort of nutritional supplement at all. Just real food. For my first 4 days I can say it is working nice, I fell no pain and not tired. I try to take some 15-min break after the lunch, but it is not always possible.
If I go easy each day (let's say 5'-ish/k pace), I don't think I would have too much problems (IF everything goes well, health wise). If I go harder, I doubt I will like it too much. I ran 90 k in a week, while working and also having swim and bike training sessions. It really depends on your level of fitness and commitment. Rest and proper nutrition are also mandatory if you do something like this. :)
Wait so you’ve been running a half a marathon everyday? I would love to start that but I got school 😂 that’s 13 miles everyday... okay well one day I can do that! I know everyday I run would add up to like 13-25 ish miles just depends. I have ran in between 3-4 miles everyday. I’m 14 and it’s pretty fun, my time is pretty slow but I want to work up to that especially for this new year. This brings lord of inspiration so thank you!!
Remember the shorter you are the less energy it takes to make 1 stride. Kipchoge is also only 5'6", of course to short isn't optimal but to tall isn't either
Marathoner Rosa Mota won Olympic Bronze in 1984 and Gold in 1988 and she is our size. Shorterlegged people means we have a shorter lever, means we need less force/ energy to swing our legs forward.
I ran 180km one week. Last day I experienced the rush called Runner's high. Sadly been chronically fatigued for many years, maybe my adrenals or hear, I don't know,. Lucky to run 10km in 50 minutes. I would love to get back to weeks such as yours some day.
Great challenge! Right now, I am trying to run a different challenge - so-called ,,datumovka'' :D. You run every day as many kilometres as it is the date. Example: 1. 11 you run 1 km, 2.11 you run 2 km ..... 30.11 you run 30 km and you must run every day! I am on the 13th kilometre right now, and it is a very exciting challenge!
i remember seeing this set of runs on strava a few weeks ago and had been anticipating the accompanying video. I use the green powder drink from Nuzest as well - although i tend to add it to my recovery protein and also to smoothies rather than just on its own. As a suggestion, you might want to consider adding a little turmeric powder and black pepper to your recovery drinks (turmeric is an anti inflammatory whilst the black pepper helps with absorption). This time next year the Boxing Day GTN video will be , "I Ran A FULL Marathon Every Day & This Is What Happened!"

I needed the video. Im trying to train for 32 km. Next year i want to run a marathon and i like to know, if i can make such a distance. In the past i ran a lot of halfmarathons so. I ran every second day since three years and i startet my training with 12,15,12,18 km and maybe i will do the 32 in a few weeks. So i wanted to say, that its cool to see, that im not the only person running and i can get new input about running
In October 2016, I did my first ever Half Marathon. It was the Heartland Marathon, Half Marathon, and 10k. The guest speaker was Frank Shorter. Yes, THE Frank Shorter! The first ever Olympic Gold Medalist for the Marathon. He did the same exact race I did as well. The Heartland Half. He still can run at 70+ years of age. I was impressed. From that day to now, I have ran 9 half marathons one of them was out of town and in not in my home state (Kansas City Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k, and 5k). That race in October 2017 was the toughest race I have ever did. You think Omaha is too hilly, go to Kansas City it's much worse and very hilly. The Paseo long steep 2 mile uphill battle got me. When I got to 18th and Vine and that hill was next I'm thinking "Oh Crap!". It wasn't easy. It wasn't fun. But I did and that race had the best afterparty ever. They really cared about the athletes there let alone the volunteers. finished my first ever marathon last year in September. Guess what race? Yep the Heartland Marathon, this time the actual event. When it's your first ever Marathon and training 10 week
Doing this mileage in this time frame you could have taken pat in the lakeland lapland challenge (145 miles) and helped save Christmas with a medal at the end 😊 This is my longest distance in a week but broke it up 12k + 12, 12k + 20k or 2 x 16k with an average pace 4:15 per km And a physical day job inbetween, sleep fatigue was hard for the first couple of days and was a mental challenge more than physical Well done on completing the challenge 👍
I try to hit between 10 and 20 miles each week. Close to running my first half-marathon. I'd like to try a 10k-a-day challenge for a week, though I think my feet would be pretty worn out by the end. I don't know much about nutrition or maintaining stamina over a period of several days; got any tips?
Seems like you smashed it Mark. I do 50 miles a week and I usually feel the same way you do 😂 Although I include a lot of vert. Do you think you can manage this every week? Maybe 70 miles a week without working up to it? That’s quite impressive.
Running high mileage everyday is plausible. But if the person running has work it would be difficult for the body to recover. It would be very tiring you'll suffer pain from muscle sore. You will need a lot of stretching and foam roll. 👍 Cheer up! Thanks for this video this is very helpful for my long mileage training. Have a blessed year ahead.
I would totally try this challenge! In fact, I run 10-12 miles 5 days a week plus a long run (20ish miles) on Saturday while taking Sunday off. I rarely run more than one run in a day. So, that puts my mileage typically around 70-75 miles a week. Oh, I also work full-time, so all of my runs are at 5am. Anyways, thanks for the video and content!
Superb effort 👍 Hard enough some weeks fitting in 1 x 13miler amongst life the universe & everything. Living in Trow the aquaduct is about halfway on one of my favourite half marathon routes.
Did 2 days either side of this New year and that was enough. Even with a leisurely pace little injuries started to appear. For reference a normal week is between 25km. I was particularly tired, just various joints and tendons started telling me to stop. I am used to a week in the mountains with 8 hour days, but in that case walking not running, albeit with a fairly heavy pack on. I had something similar when two years ago I tried to run 10km per day for a week. That time it was just shin splints and a previous knee injury that flared up, but I finished the week. This time it was definitely time to stop after day 2.
2 years ago i ran a half marathon everyday for 1 month My longest week was 166 km A good distance for me as an older amateur plodder at 54 years old is a 1/2 marathon Ive run quite a few marathons and a handfull of ultras But ive lost count of the 1/2 marathons ive run I did my month challenge on LCHF Fat fueled was much easier during that month just used magnesium tabs to help with cramping My results were 8kg weight loss and felt fitter No pain or injury and as the month rolled on my energy levels wemt up due to my diet
I've done it for many months. It can be done but you must be doing it full time. Just difficult if you are doing something else or working because you need at least 8 to 10 hours of recovery sleep everyday.
Well done getting through that week! Some great insights to help as I ramp up my training volume next year in prep for my first trail marathon. I'll be interested to know what impact this had on your fitness and performance once you'd recovered a bit.
Oddly as the week went on I felt like I was running more efficiently. But as soon as I stopped I felt really flat. It took me a good week or two before I felt like myself again. If I had built up gradually I’m sure it would have been fine, but this was a big shock to the system. Also, it does show the value of recovery. I would always suggest a good recovery week every 3-4 weeks so your body can catch up and adapt
I did exactly the same this week. 7 half’s in 7 days, finishing on Christmas Eve. I just had breakfast before, nothing on the run and sis rego after (plus the mince pies 😀) Great to watch gtn take on the challenge 👍
Can you do a video on aerobic vs anerobic training. Most notablly the fact that Anerobic abillity sticks without training, but aerobic needs to be constantly worked on or you lose it. Perhaps a few Anerobic workouts. Solid effort. I was wondering what the runs on strava was.
Should you rather say « I ran 21k per day for a week » instead ? A half marathon is a race. If you were to race every day that would’ve been a different story. Your challenge is about significantly increasing your mileage overnight during a week which is not recommended for anyone. It is also a matter of pace. Doing one in the morning the next one in the evening etc and alternating slower/ faster pace could have been a good way to cope with the load.
Would you try a challenge like this? What is the furthest you have run in a week?
78km for me

I liked the video and your channel in general. I did 21 half marathons in 21 days and I felt the same as you after day 2 but afterwards every day got easier and my biggest lesson learnt was that i need to enjoy the process more than the result. I will do a video one day 😀
Great work. I ran a minimum 10km everyday in June for 30 days, covered 347km and gained 3kg 😭
Thanks.
Thanks for your kind comments 🙂
I run one-half marathon every month as a practice and many 10ks. But everyday is like 🥵🥵 🥵.. How do you even manage that. You are an inspiration Mark :)
6-8 miles a day 🙌🙌🙌
Which model/shoe did you get?
Nice video with some good tips. I’ve started a half marathon every month! Thanks for some inspiration:)
Cheers Jarred, thanks for all the support :)
I'm jealous! Ran my first half a month ago, but have been making great gains, I should be hitting a half a month by the end of January (I'm doing a couple 15k/ month right now).
@wilfred a couple of 15k runs a month is awesome! I’m sure you can build up to a half marathon a month.
I did it last month, it was a great week. I love challenges like this, hope you will have more! 😊
Cheers !
I weigh 230 pounds lol I used to weigh 200 flat when I ran every dayyy Ima start back up sooon
Very cool we use to do TDF challange where we run 10% of the daily stage , so we had quite some days over 20k... was great for fitness and weight loss
Maybe a warning to beginners should be given: increasing your mileage that much can increase the risk of injury.
Thanks for the content amd motivation. Definitely about to wing in and start tomorrow
Great job. Well done. We need inspirational videos like this to keep us going through COVID
the human mind is so powerful. thank you for inspiring many of us!
Really appreciate this. Running my first one in Feb.
Good luck! I ran mine and recorded mine and posted it. :D
Excellent content!! Keep the Q & A videos coming ......
What a lovely scenery, kinda envy you and this nice and beautifull track
So this is what I was seeing in the Strava. Good effort
Several STRONG cups of coffee were missing from Mark's nutritional regime! ☕️☕️☕️
Just eating fish and chips whilst I watch your incredible Olympian efforts!!
Fab work, very well done. That was very enlightening.
Great video!
I usually run twice a week and two mile a day ! If I had a place like yours for running I would run more than my regular run 😍
We're very lucky!
I must admit the thought of that weeks distance is bad enough but running 90% of it in the dark just makes it ten times worse! Fair play!
Impressive effort! Great job!
This is absolutely insane! Beast mode effort!
Thank you!
Good video and great to see you did it.
Your stride is 1:4 of mine. 5'1" here. I often feel I'm running backward. I'm training for my first half marathon
How many tbsp of turmeric and black pepper for a smoothie? *Milk, creatine, peanut butter, banana, oatmeal*
@@domo_willson i dont actually measure the turmeric out but would say that it works out at around 1.5 teaspoons. black pepper i just sprinkle on top - maybe 10%
My favorite GTN video this year! I liked to see how you pushed yourself, setting up a challenge, and completing it!
Good job mate!
Hi, some info on knees and back pains as this is a huge increase in impact stress. Thanks
Stretching, lifting weights to develop muscle otherwise switch over to cycling.
Time is always the problem especially with life like kids, work, etc. But it gets more difficult as you age as well.
Ths 4 sharing Ur experiment. Before I ran 100-kilometer, I did finish n got finisher medal n could have gone longer but did not prepare well enough 4 applying vasline cream in my ankle area n got skin peeled off so I had 2 quit after 62.5 miles or bit over 100-kilometers, becuase the race was both 100-kilometer N 100-miles n was aming for 100-miles n might have been finished shape wise I was OK if it wasn't 4 my ankle area (where Ur ankle keep brushing againt) skin peel off. If U want to train for 100-kilometer n even 100-miles U need to be able to run 3-4 times a week half marathon for at least 6-weeks before the race, which I trained, but need so much rest PLUS I usually swim 3-4 times a week for mile after run, so I had NO issue with any aches n paints as swimming will take care of all that muscle strains, but MUST eat well like quality home made meal with complex carbo like quality paster, minimum of 4-grams of wonderful fiber (!) and or good quality brown rice with wonderful fiber (3-grams in quality organic brown rice quality indeed!), and finish with fruits n teas (breakfast black tea n afternoon n evening all different flavors of hurb teas!!!). NO alchol, NO smoke, NO soda, NOTHING come out fr Cow's-nipple n it worked 4 me. The same training was 4 when I was training 4 S.F Alcatraz Island to S.F Bay Ocean Open water swimming n Boston Marathon {I already had well under 4-hours finished 9-marathons under my belt!}, qualfication marathon, 50K, 50-miles, 11,600 trail marathon in Utah City Creek Cannyon, (one of the best n toughest with all that jaggered rocks which is why beside time winner, also has MOST bloodist winner, almost always fell down, scrapes in sharp jaggered rocks everywhere in thar race n we ran down like "deer!" There is another fantastic rear-kicking "50-kilometers in one of the toughest 50-kilometer anywhere is called "Olney Wildeness in Fremont, California!" which I also finished but it was tough n VERY nice wooden inscribed race finisher pack (check it out in their website but register early as it closed early due to ONLY limited runners are allowed due to environmental impacts!). *I ran "ALL by myself" 10,000 feet high PLUS, **I was the first one to ever went to top of the Mount Olympus, has pictures (took camera n tri-pod to take auto-shots), along the way n top of the moutain ALL by myself n there are deers around near top of the aforementioned mountain, so I would NOT run in dark, as I came down it was getting dark n I ran down with extreme caution n ran down like dog put tail in beween (laugh!)! *** U are what U eat n eat so well with home cooking, I prepare every meal for myself, all kinds of fruits, true complex carboes n teas, stated, n buy **** quality shoes, "compression knee or calve sheeves, medium sized pouch for carrying gues, one bottle n apply vasiline or other foot creams n VERY highly recommend "iinjue sox or hand glove like soxes will cool n prevent abrasion between toes, shoe should be good quality marathon shoe for Ur foot type n the WHOLE point is "MUST do research BEFORE taking any distant running starting from 10k to all the way to 100-miles which the ONLY thign I left to do in few years as I am busy for now. Hope this infor would be helpful from someone who actually done every single races n open water swimming races ,2.4 miles 3-of them. *Never took ANY supplement n sufficent amount of sleep, best of everthing, EVERY day N EVERY breakast I ate, still is until my last day from the earth, "quality steel oat meal with greeen lefty vegis, spinich, kale, chared, bok choy, collard green (most skin helping colligen contains!), etc. etc. NO strach before run but MUST after due to all that mucle fiber n tendons are well warmed, but recommend take hot shower before running, espeically before race day), carrots, blue barries add last minutes with banna also, ! NEVER eatin "anyting" or food or jell or proten power that contains EVEN "dervative from animal cow-nipple-that is PURE fact our liver cannot n wiill NOT be able to fully break down to degistable molecures is scientific fact, even though Northern European decendents can tolerate better but NOT still able to fully break down due to "inter-specy" Or we are NOT a baby cow, any question? Any one any body consuming anything come from cow, shall pay dearly sooner or later againt Ur health is NOT guess but cold-scientific fact! Any quetion? Exercise common sense if U care about ur health by stay away from anything come out from cow's nipple-which tooooo many people are not aware of... From the USA
13+ miles per day for 1 week? Totally possible! We were doing 15-20 miles, slow pace per day, average 125+ miles per week during base building phase.
When
I got to 18th and Vine and that hill was next I'm thinking "Oh Crap!".
Doing this mileage in this time frame you could have taken pat in the lakeland lapland challenge (145 miles) and helped save Christmas with a medal at the end 😊
This is my longest distance in a week but broke it up 12k + 12, 12k + 20k or 2 x 16k with an average pace 4:15 per km
And a physical day job inbetween, sleep fatigue was hard for the first couple of days and was a mental challenge more than physical
Well done on completing the challenge 👍
I try to hit between 10 and 20 miles each week. Close to running my first half-marathon. I'd like to try a 10k-a-day challenge for a week, though I think my feet would be pretty worn out by the end. I don't know much about nutrition or maintaining stamina over a period of several days; got any tips?
I find it incredible that you run daily and never find a day of heavy rain with lightning
very nice home I miss running in the cold, greetings from Dubai.
Seems like you smashed it Mark. I do 50 miles a week and I usually feel the same way you do 😂 Although I include a lot of vert. Do you think you can manage this every week? Maybe 70 miles a week without working up to it? That’s quite impressive.
Thanks for the info and reply Mark. Looking at getting meself some green vitality
Do it and record it start 2021 right 👊
🙌
Sure you do
That was incredible! Congrats Mark!
Thanks for the video, I've already started doing half marathon every week.
2 years ago i ran a half marathon everyday for 1 month
My longest week was 166 km
A good distance for me as an older amateur plodder at 54 years old is a 1/2 marathon
Ive run quite a few marathons and a handfull of ultras
But ive lost count of the 1/2 marathons ive run
I did my month challenge on LCHF
Fat fueled was much easier during that month just used magnesium tabs to help with cramping
My results were 8kg weight loss and felt fitter
No pain or injury and as the month rolled on my energy levels wemt up due to my diet
I go 21k three to four times a week over the winter time. No issues yet. I am 45 years old and running now for 5 years.
I did that between Christmas and New Year and now I‘m injured 😕 usually do about 100- 120k a week, but about half of it in the mountains....
@Jamie's Running did a half marathon every week for year, sometime two a week - believe he did around 70 in year!
I've done it for many months. It can be done but you must be doing it full time. Just difficult if you are doing something else or working because you need at least 8 to 10 hours of recovery sleep everyday.
Helicopter: "The bloke is legi´n it"
Just did half marathon 3 days straight. Fooked up my IT band.🥺
Weak
@@markthrelfall3577 Thanks that's really helpful advice. Merry Christmas!
I did exactly the same this week. 7 half’s in 7 days, finishing on Christmas Eve. I just had breakfast before, nothing on the run and sis rego after (plus the mince pies 😀)
Great to watch gtn take on the challenge 👍
Brilliant challenge!
You might wanna do an interview with Eddie Izzard on how to run a full marathon (or two in some cases) a day for a month :)
I ran my 139th half marathon in a row this morning. That’s right -139 half Mary’s in a row. And more to go. All documented in Strava . I feel fine
What an effort! Awesome challenge.
Oh this brings back memories of running that area along the canal - Bath, B-onA ?
ima bike commuter, amateur cyclist, recently start running (again), 5k (7m/km) feels like 15k cycling in moderate intensity.
I’ve done this along with 90km of cycling in the evening while working - 700km in total and it was very very hard
Amazing you don't get any delayed muscle soreness. Well done! 🙂
So cool that you ran with your dad!
You have a beautiful house, love to live there
