- We left Quito to escape the rain and cold weather. Expecting to stay a couple of days, we ended up stuck in Mompiche, a small fishing village on the north coast of Ecuador. So now we're living here!

Hi! We are Eric and Sarah, a couple of Canadians currently travelling around Ecuador. We’ve been married since 2017 but have known each other since we were only 6 years old! During our last year of university, we spent 4 months in Honduras on a semester abroad and fell in love with Latin America. Since then, we began planning and saving to do an extensive Latin America tour. 2020 delayed those plans by half a year but during this time stuck in BC, we explored a new hobby (like everyone in the pandemic) of videography and photography. We are now using our new skills to document our adventures around Ecuador. Our desire through these videos is to provide helpful and inspiring content for other travelers while also showing people around the world how beautiful and underrated Ecuador truly is! Thanks for the beautiful video guys! I have been to Ecuador several times starting in th year 2002, we plan to retire there. I only regret not going there sooner when I was younger so I could adventure such as you two are doing. I do have the advantage of my wife being from there, we have a house in Sangolqui valles los chillas, 40 minutes from Quito. Beautiful place, to many inlaws!

You definitely should! Would recommend staying a week or more to get a good feel for the rhythm for sure. It’s a bit out of the way, but it’s definitely worth it!

OK. Finally after getting back to the Los Angeles (culture shock,) for a while now, I can finally say - I've been to Mompiche. Yes. I went. I've seen met the old lady peeling onions. The little markets. Bamboo hotels. The beach. The surf shop. The kitty in the window. Monkey forest cove. So many things to say but : OMG. What the .... Is what you say when you first get there. Walking through the muddy little roads. | Then. After staying there for a bit and it's time to leave you are saying: Ahhh... Why am I leaving again?? hahahaha. :-) -- That. Explains Mompiche.

Yes it does complicate things. It seems as though Mompiche is a little more relaxed as far as curfews go. But things change everyday here. Thanks for watching!!

Wow, you guys are definitely way up North. I watch Amelia and JP, they are in Olon. And there is another couple that are TH-camrs that were in Montanita. I think it gets warmer and dryer as you move South. Excited to watch your journey in Ecuador. I want to retire there someday. Awesome video.

@@EricandSarah But sometimes you have to take stock of your life and not always live for the moment. A part of you knows that you're not stuck in that location or country long-term, which may make a difference in your evaluation.

Hey guys the curfew is ONLY on Weekends , weekdays are just "normal"

how can i get there from manta? expensive taxi?
Hi, you said there is no ATM. If you were stuck there, how did you deal with the cash situation? Or did you just end up having brought enough cash for the month? How much cash did you need to last the month there?
Heyyy. So in Mompiche, there is no ATM. Eric had to drive 2 hours to Atacames to get money out. You can definitely last with about $500 in a month, but remember it's also difficult to break $20 bills, even a $5 bill sometimes hahah Just be patient and try your best to make it work. Hope this helps.

Yeah, it was just a random sandwich that Sarah had eaten. Only happened once!

Yes those are definitely better for the advanced surfers. But Mompiche is great for people who are learning because of the long leftward break! Lots of easy waves to catch at La Punta!
