Your videography is gorgeous. I did some hiking in the Cajas with my sister visiting from Denver. It's so beautiful but our guide told us how it can get pretty dangerous pretty quick. I'm now retired in Cuenca and loving it.
Thanks so much!! We really appreciate that 🙂 Cajas is very beautiful but as you can see, things can go wrong quick at high altitudes. Thanks for watching!
You two did better than most! Pilots are required to apply oxygen at 10,000 feet so that they don't pass out, for obvious reasons. I would love to be 20 again!!! Thanks for the video!

Wow absolutely excellent sharing. Outstanding video. It’s scenery also both of you looks very fantastic. I really enjoyed Very much. Feelings it’s Very nice. Thanks for sharing. I am waiting your next video. Now you are my new good friend.

If you haven't already gone then someone has probably recommended that you visit quilotoa and hike the rim. Do it. It is an incrediblly gorgeous and magical place.Stay the night in the Village at a hostería that has a chimenea in your room. Otherwise you will be too cold. Enjoy!
This is one of many videos in which I see tourists underestimating Cajas National Park and having an awful time... The place is wild, and soooo freaking cold at night.
Cajas STARTS about a thousand feet higher than Cuenca so the altitude can get you for sure even for those of us living in Cuenca. Also generally, it's best to plan your hiking in the mornings because fog and rain are more prevalent in the afternoons. Certain times of year, the afternoon fog can get dangerously thick (like you're not going anywhere until the morning). Good job with your videos and for being good sports.
I never stay a night on the mountain (paramo). I really admire you guys that have a courage to spent a night up there. You deserve the permanent residence in Ecuador and have a little Ecuadorian. God blesses both of you!

Maravillosa expedición, estar en contacto con la naturaleza en un lugar de increíbles paisajes, con sus lagunas, es algo único. Es sentir la energía de la tierra.
Great hike you guys! Lots of learning which is so good! You will become pros in no time. I learned at high altitudes to walk much slower than normal and drink water super regularly (seriously make yourself drink). Well done for not pushing yourselves.
Great video, I enjoyed it so much. I was on that very same place with my Cuencan girl on February, but we only took a short walk from the main house, you really took it seriously and ventured well into the park's heart, great job. It's amazing how quickly the weather can change up there from a beautiful sunny morning into a cloudy, windy and rainy afternoon. That place is quite magic
You two are awesome troopers! Congrats! What water filtration system did you use while camping? I plan to visit Ecuador next year and Cajas will definitely be on my list! I just subscribed to hear more of your fun adventures.
Thanks so much! We were actually told by the rangers that we could drink straight from flowing water. We should have showed that, but we drew from a very pure waterfall. That’s why Eric had to go so far to get water. Thanks for subscribing! Glad you’re following along 😃
Sorry that things didn't work out for you guys. Great scenery! Nature has it's own rules, so we must play by it's rules and just go with the flow. Keep going!
We biked from the top of Cajas at las tres cruces, it was so cold up there but it quickly warmed up as we got lower. We made it down the old original dirt road and thru the cloud forest. Amazing downhill route. Luckily none us got sick from the altitude.

The best medicine for altitude sickness (soroche) is coca leaves tea. You can find coca leaves on any town market and any peasant can tell you what to replace it with if you cannot find coca leaves. I use cedron, Manzanilla or hierbabuena. A warm soup also helps.
Hi, Ecuadorean here (born, raised, and living here! hehe). I love your videos and your adventures. I think you made kind of a "rookie" mistake. I mean there is a reason why you don't see many locals camping there. Cajas National Park is famous both for being beautiful, and for it's altitude making people sick. Even if you've been in Cuenca for a few days, Cajas is much more higher, and for every 1000 mts high, well you feel it in your system. Hope this experience doesn't stop you from exploring more of Ecuador. :)
Hi Jessica! Glad you enjoyed it :) We definitely weren’t expected the altitude to be so brutal. And honestly no blog or video we found online said anything about bad experience. All happy people with great camping experiences. So we’re happy to share a different story to warn others. Still a great experience enjoying Cajas though :)
I have chronic resp problems but lived in Cuenca a year 2012- 2013. I also did a day hike with friends in the park. We took a bus there and my friend hitchhiked us back. I did not know that was the plan as my spanish was basic and she did not speak much English. We had a male US neighbor/friend with us. I by some miracle at 62 and my issues had no altitude sickness either place. I came home due to mom's health. An only child. Now almost 10 years down my health and mobility issues are not good enough to go back. I dream about sometimes but not practical. I have enjoyed your visit.
