I think 490 km/h is more scary to me personally becuase I am so used to mph and if I see 490 km/h I won't have a fucking clue how fast I was driving it could say 250 km/h and i wouldnt have a clue how fast I was going. Well, with that run they didn't break any records. A custom built chiron in a one way run. For the fastest production car they need a standard production chiron and do a run both ways. The average speed is taken and that's the magical number. Koenigsegg still holds the speed record.

These cars are designed the way they are for a reason. Engineers achieve this not tuners.

Actually with the new exhaust setup I can see it expelling the exhaust gases further away from the car and also allowing it to integrate into the rear diffuser much better helping keep the rear end planted on the tarmac much better

Since we're talking about modified cars this is not the 1st time the 300 mph barrier has been broken. A modified Golf Mk2 would do a better job since it didn't require aero modifications.
in one of the koenigsegg videos christian said, that when they did over 400kph, the first were afraid of tyre overheating, but when they actually did it, tyre temps were way below what they expected, so michelin went from, you can maybe do 2-3 runs on one set, to well, you can't kill the tires with just going straight.... so no heat wasn't an issue at all.
To attempt a record you need to do two runs each direction plus it's not a stock chiron it is a modified prototype version of chiron they removed the back wings, installed roll cage and many more changes to do this speed run, so basically and technically koenigsegg is the fastest according to the Guinness world records
Not to mention that there was a modified Ford GT that hit the 300mp/h first, not the chiron. Also, the Ford did it on a standing mile, not a private circuit

It's just my way of seeing things, but faster Nurburgring times impress me more than top speed figures. The challenge of braking, turning, acceleration, dampening and driver skill, of a track like Nurburgring, really speaks so much for the car and driver. I like track times much more than top speeds or 0-60's or 1/4 miles.
And they did this in a modified prototype version which means "not stock" on their own private test track. Koenigsegg did 284mph with a customer's stock car on a temporarily closed public road 🤷♂️ I bet koenigsegg will hit over a 300mph average from two directions. Unlike Bugatti who only ran it in one direction

Since we're talking about modified cars this is not the 1st time the 300 mph barrier has been broken.
A modified Golf Mk2 would do a better job since it didn't require aero modifications.
Richard Hammond would of hit 305 and checked how well it flies at the same time!
And tested the limits of its crumple zones as well as fire retardant properties.

in one of the koenigsegg videos christian said, that when they did over 400kph, the first were afraid of tyre overheating, but when they actually did it, tyre temps were way below what they expected, so michelin went from, you can maybe do 2-3 runs on one set, to well, you can't kill the tires with just going straight.... so no heat wasn't an issue at all.
To attempt a record you need to do two runs each direction plus it's not a stock chiron it is a modified prototype version of chiron they removed the back wings, installed roll cage and many more changes to do this speed run, so basically and technically koenigsegg is the fastest according to the Guinness world records
Not to mention that there was a modified Ford GT that hit the 300mp/h first, not the chiron. Also, the Ford did it on a standing mile, not a private circuit

I took my R6 to 163 assuming that the speedo was off I'll even drop to say 155ish. That was plenty fast for me.

It's just my way of seeing things, but faster Nurburgring times impress me more than top speed figures. The challenge of braking, turning, acceleration, dampening and driver skill, of a track like Nurburgring, really speaks so much for the car and driver. I like track times much more than top speeds or 0-60's or 1/4 miles.

490 km per hour is a strange barrier to be aiming for, seems 500km per hour would make more sence.
MPH ruled for more than half of automotive history and of course is still the offcial measure in the USA where they all sell a lot of this kind of car.
