They only do trailers for 5 star characters!! With the exception a few 4stars like march 7th cause shes the mascot and serval as she was a fan favorite
Actually, in CONTRAST to Genshin, they do switch the gender of the protag pretty regularly as you have seen. Which I absolutely appreciate. I personally don't play Genshin anymore but i also chose Lumine and honestly I think at least until Sumeru (that's where I stopped playing) the story flows better with their roles that way so it was always a bit weird for me with the trailers. Stelle and Caelus (Star Rails Protag names) don't give me whiplash in the trailers since they are both present and while I do adore my little racoon queen more, Caelus doesn't feel out of place like Aether does for me xD EDIT: guys I really love that you engage with my comment but do yourself a favour and also read the replies to get the full picture :)

Kafka definitely is one of the most prominent characters, and is instrumental not just to the early story but to the entire wider arc as well as the MC (trailblazer). I'm not sure I can think of a Genshin equivalent but I didn't play for very long. Perhaps Dainsleif-esque but Black Swan probably fits that archetype better, she's in an early myriad celestia trailer and shows up in the story from 2.0 til present and is obviously aware of things we aren't but is still very mysterious to us. Kafka is an HSR special lol, clearly a dev favorite and definitely fans'. Speaking of myriad celestia trailers, you should do those next alongside the animated shorts. At that point you should just play the game lol, i know I'm not the only one who loves seeing ppl get hyped over trailers and then ride the hype train into the actual game (which really has only been getting better since launch). Oh yeah and all the trailers use custom fonts that represent the language of that world, the Penacony one has even been successfully translated so they just casually cook up mini languages (probably more like ciphers tbh) for their version trailers so obscure details before launch 😂
Both Genshin and HSR version trailers purposefully twist plot points by mixing up the visuals and the VO in a way that can mislead or not actually give away the plot. I think it is a good thing over all. Gives you enough to get interested and curious but not enough to fully give away the story.
I mean, Jingliu's (the light blue hair women) trailer literally has a close up 2 second shot of her without her blindfold, and the whole duration of her without a blindfold is still quite long
Each version present as a new patch version of the game. It begin with 2 new 5 stars characters, for gacha banner for that period of version, those are limited time as usually. And new 4 stars charactor without trailer. Except the version 2.0 that a main new patch for currently ‘Penacony’ planet, they show most preview what we gonna happen.
Don’t worry about the story not being as hype as trailer, HSR’s story is definitely a banger, especially the recent update. However, if people would rate the least liked story, it would be the second arc (or the third one if counting the space station). But even when it’s quite disliked, it’s still a very good story, just a bit of a drag.
Welp just to let you know they just released a new character trailer and the next version trailer 2.3 should be out in a week or so so you should check both out at some point.
In Star Rail, both Caelus and Stelle (Male and Female MC) share one story, unlike Genshin where Aether and Lumine have different storyline for one another, hence why HSR MCs appear in trailers. You can see Stelle in some trailers.
You seem like a cool chill guy so I'd absolutely watch your genshin/hsr playthrough if you decide to play /edit My bad, I see you already played some! Exciting :D Waiting for more :D
In version trailers, Hoyo uses both Stelle and Caelus (female and male MC respectively). In character trailers and animated shorts, it's been consistently only Stelle thus far, AFAIK, so it appears she's the favored one of the 2 in this game. Which suits me fine, as a female player character enjoyer in any game that lets me pick. And no, unlike Genshin, there's no "sibling" or any such thing in the story. You pick the one of the 2 you like, and the other one is discarded, never to be seen again.
now you should do zenless zone zero(another very anticipated upcoming hoyo game) trailers since its nearing release in a month on july 4th : ). They have really good jazzy music too : D
the whole protagonist thing works well in star rail because they both don't exist in the world you choose to create one then the other one doesn't exist so the other one doesn't interfere with the story like in genshin where they both exist in teyvat hence why it could be confusing to swap between them canonically. edit yeah as a fully straight male I appreciate seeing another real manly man in a hoyo gacha game aka gallagher. It's not often you see a beard and broad chest in these games I wish they did it more they're my favorite male characters too bad gallagher just isn't that good because they gave him the 4 star treatment I did however e6 him in an effort to make him more playable.
I gave up on genshin the moment star rail got out it's legitimately good plus robin and Kafka & sparkle are the only woman i went out may way paying for them
I personaly dont vibe with the writing in honkai star rail and i cant be botherd to grind builds for story bosses but the game is a high budget spectacle for sure.
She's the most attractive character in the game. It's just natural that most people will like her. Not even Black Swan can compare to her attractiveness in general

Because for obvious reasons, she's more popular among the fandom
