Poor guy has missed a lot of short putts. 2 in the final three holes on Us open Sunday though😢. Tough watch. That would have been an epic playoff.
Putts of 3' or less, Rory was 496/496 this year. He missed 2 in the last 3 holes. 😐

i love both rory and bryson this was heartbreaking to watch.
I have no problem with either of them, I felt bad for Rory,but he needs to represent the game better. I totally understand that he was devastated and didn't want to talk to anybody, he will have to answer some tough questions now..,..
I watch Golf casually but I know a Putter when I see it, DeChambeau was using a Putter Rory looked like he was using some custom made club trying to cheat the system, for that alone I'm Glad Dechambeau won ....

Rory has a good life, been a fortunate guy. Has obviously worked hard to get to where he is. Lets not play this like he was dealt a tough hand, he lost a professional golf tournament to a better player on the day, walked away with millions and sponsor bonuses. He will play another day.

@StuMarston - How about being a gracious loser? We teach children to be a good sport, handling defeats like adults do. Then we watch multi-millionaires, who play a game for our entertainment, and in this case having won majors, but Rory couldn't face the press nor at minimum congratulate the champ? He didn't even give the public and press the chance to show him some empathy. Yes, it was a painful defeat, but guess what, he'd be more than available for Bryson if the results were the opposite. It's easy to console others when you win, easy to meet the press when you win, easy to be a good sport. How 'bout when you lose. Decent people feel for Rory having lost ( the way he did ), though that can be short-lived given the way he exited the tournament after defeat.

Best in the world. The best part about the whole tournament was when guys actually hit great shots, they had the weekend warrior shakes on the greens. On such an unforgiving course. The game of golf does it again
Gutted for Rory. That 2 foot slippery down hill putt on 18, dang. But don't fear, I predict Rory will win "The Open" next month! We're going to Scotland everyone and it's going to be EPIC. It's right along the sea coast at Ayr Bay. Beautiful place and the HOME Of GOLF!

The last time Rory was this crushed was after the 2011 Masters and he came out in the next major (US Open Congressional) and won. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest he wins the British Open next month.

this open was phenomenal because of this talent and the production and the course. I have only seen a few opens but I felt this one was special and golf is in a great place. Tell me if I am wrong

90 is pretty damn good. That's 10 less than triple digits and highly respectable round of golf. Granted, you probably were not feeling US Open pressure but still, just a few more plops into the hole and you're in the 70s, next to pro level.

Rory collapsed at the 2011 Masters I think...shot an 80 etc...but he went on to win his four majors AFTER this event. Winning is the only solution to all the BS thrown at you. Nothing else will suffice. Go get 'em Rory.

Watch that putt on 18 in slow-mo. He hit that putt well. Ball went exactly where he was aimed. And IT BROKE A CUP. It's stupid hard to put a cup of break on a 4' putt. He didn't choke; that's just the way the statistics is. He made some great putts and then missed some tough down hillers. Can't knock him as he played some great golf on a tough course. Bryson just out played everyone. Simple as that.
Rory should get the LAB putter. Follow in the foot steps of Glover, Scott, Zalatoris et al.
Even so, it will be talked about as one of the best for another 100 years.

I honestly think this loss by Rory Mcilroy was for the better. There’s no way he’ll feel pressure ever again in these situations he has nothing more to lose. He’s gagged far too much in these situations I believe this moment will finally turn him into a cold killer.

That isn't how golf works. Now that something like this has happened he is going to be yipping putts even more in pressure situations. Its same way he can't win at the masters after he duck hooked that drive on 10. Its over for Rory.

Back at Bryson’s shot every 30 seconds you have to have the you against the course mentality you can’t do that.
The first missed putt was absolutely terrible. His lag broke the other way significantly. They had the read, how did he mess it up like that?
Rory was also a sore sport not staying behind to get his 2nd place medal. Every other person has done that, very poor sportsmanship.
Devastation clouds the mind. He will regret it but that was a brutal ending.

@@MoDeegroes honestly the putt on 15 still would have been a worse miss if it was four or five feet. On 18 it looks like a slight push. Needed to start it at least two inches farther left.

Pros shoot thousands of these putts, and no one’s 100%. Time and Chance happen to them all, just far less often for guys like Rory. He hit some incredible putts to close the gap… he didn’t choke, his low probability misses just came at a bad time. It’s always easier to point out why the second place guy lost than why the first place guy won… give the man a break would yah.

I'm not saying this WILL happen, but the last time Rory had a major disappointment of this magnitude was 2011 Masters. He bounced back and won the 2011 US Open. But that was 22 year old Rory, not 35 year old Rory with significantly more mental scar tissue. I hope he bounces back but leaving the scene of the crime w/o talking to the press is a bad look.
Getting an 81 in the final round after leading the tournament is much worse than finishing one shot back tbh
@@lrn_news9171 in a vacuum, yes. But Rory was 22 then. He was seen as having all the time in the world to recover from it. He’s 35 now, and major-less in 10 years. This stuff gets harder as you age, not easier. It makes this major loss more mentally punishing because he knows that he doesn’t have as many dominating years left at the top. The fact Rory left the crime scene then posted on FB he’s taking time away from the game… illustrates he’s more shook over this loss vs 2011 Masters.
Rory hit it so much better than Bryson , not sure how he lost it again … very frustrating … also it’s funny how they talk about Bryson and his speed and his size and Rory got up to 190 ball speed and didn’t really seem to be swinging hard like Bryson … also Bryson wasn’t hitting it that far with the higher speed , according to their numbers he was only carrying it like 317 at the most
They played 72 holes and Bryson took one less stroke than Rory, that's how he won.

bryson has fixed wrists, so he has to swing harder. rory uses flex wrists like most golfers and so generates a little extra oomph from there.

With 5 holes to play, with a two shot lead, after carrying a 4 under par round trough 13 holes (5 birdies / one bogey), Rory proceeds to:
14. Miss the fairway, the green and scramble to save par;
15. Miss the green, aproach and two putts for bogey;
16. Safe on the fairway, gets the green, and two putts (the second from 3 ft) for bogey;
17. Miss the green, scrambles from the sand to save par;
18. Miss the fairway, miss the green, aproach to 4 feet and miss the putt for bogey.
If i have to describe Rory's 5 final holes in 1 word: Choke.
16 was a three putt for bogey. Sad part is was an almost perfectly played hole (on one of the hardest holes of the tournament). Barely misses the birdie putt and then inexplicably misses the easy two footer for par.

Interesting , I can honestly say I never heard anyone who didn’t like him before the LIV thing but I agree 100% about the “hating” if by that you mean constantly bashing, berating and celebrating his struggles. Never a good thing to do and so…… all I am saying is he shouldn’t do it either. He didn’t do himself any favors with that LIV thing. I don’t dislike him but I think he has some major maturing to do for someone who has the stage he has. His supporters should tell him so. Appreciate your perspective.
